  1. Couldn't follow the game this afternoon. So I went to the IGT about 45 minutes ago. Read through the first 5 pages or so. Assumed we were losing something like 7-2. Went to TMJ & learned it was 3-3. Interesting case study.
  2. His considering football (at least at first) might've played a part in some of the traditional powers not getting involved. But like you said UW was in early & often. You hafta like kids to whom that means a lot. He's also said some very complimentary things about Greg Gard. I mean over-the-top complimentary.
  3. Committed to UW moments ago. Very nice addition.
  4. Health, and the people they already have performing on a level more consistent with their individual abilities, are more important than acquisitions from outside the organization (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "upgrades") & always will be.
  5. 8 for his last 12. If Felix re-establishes himself & my guy Cam Devanney gets his groove back, along with the way Murray has been performing you suddenly have some real INF possibilities to go with the young OFs.
  6. I get it too. If it was a mistake then it was one I would've also made. Not a lotta other options. Tyler Naquin was also hurt around the same time Taylor started his rehab, but another LH hitter wasn't what they needed anyway.
  7. Badger hoops fans who follow recruiting news have been paying much attention to Daniel Freitag, where he might wind up, & what sport he may choose. The latest info has him making a decision at 3PM tomorrow. Most sources I've seen are anticipating a UW commitment, with Notre Dame still a possibility. Stay tuned.
  8. Yeah, I was just semi-on board with the concept of seeing if he can play 1B. Really no room for him at Biloxi as none of the folks you mentioned are deserving/ready to move up, yet you aren't in unconditional release territory either. It doesn't look like a permanent spot for Campbell at N'ville is in the cards right now as I think they'd want to hang on to Monasterio & Toro if/when the time comes to remove them from the MLB roster. What kind of defender is Ernesto Martinez at 1B?
  9. If Miller can play 1B, moving him would actually make sense (might be a big if though). There are two other reasons to consider it: One is Jeff Quero & the other is Matt Wood. Quero should IMO stay where he is for now. I highly doubt Navaretto or Henry would bring you any helpful pitching. Campbell was just promoted. He has the versatility you need in 21st century baseball, where it seems like you need thirty guys in your bullpen.
  10. I think Fred would benefit greatly if he still had Eric Kratz & Manny Pina to throw to. Not to disparage Contreras, you just can't acquire experience & poise w/o going through a lot of wars.
  11. After watching Monasterio for a few days, he's obviously limited but has something to hang his hat on. That is, his hands through the zone are pretty quick, but doesn't try to do too much. Rather than the quick hands causing him to want to get the bat head out quickly & be obsessed with pulling & exit velo, he uses it to give himself that extra split second to let the ball travel & make a better decision on whether to attack. It results in getting some better pitches to hit, which usually get hit in the middle of the diamond, which is fine. Sort of like our team approach in April, which hasn't completely disappeared but is much, much more intermittent.
  12. Taylor IMO had some pretty good ABs early on, but not much to show for it. Now his ABs are getting worse if anything. Curious as well as disappointing.
  13. A lot of guessing at the plate. A LOT. I think most hitters do that to some extent, but on other rosters you see people, when fooled, are able to get a piece & stay alive with a foul ball, or take if off the plate. When we guess wrong, too often it seems like we have no chance.
  14. I think Fred makes a lot of pitches that are acceptable to good 0-2, 1-2 pitches. The problem is he isn't at 0-2 or 1-2 often enough for them to be effective. More than enough talent & stuff. The maturity/consistency isn't where it needs to be, yet.
  15. I was quite the Valerio fan when he was in rookie & A-ball. Looks like he's starting to heat up a bit. Still only 22, I believe.
  16. Agree. I was asking for my TV to show me a bunt there. I also had zero confidence it would show me one.
  17. Don't know if Teheran can keep this up, but if he does it could eventually allow Houser to move to the pen which I think would be a big help. It seems like every time they make the late-inning defensive move with Anderson from RF to 3B he makes a play--or two--that his predecessor might not have. Public service announcement........in I think it was the 3rd inning Toronto did NOT have the contact play on w/one out, and it cost them a run. Just sayin'.
  18. That was an odd series. Yankees blew Pitt out in 2 or 3 of their wins, but the Bucs won the close ones. So much for run differential.
  19. Jesus Aguilar was just DFA'd by Oakland. Just trying to be thorough; not suggesting we take a flyer on him unless we're looking to set some sort of record for most beefy 1B under contract in one season. I will say this: some Brewer fans complain about the team "dumpster diving" or being "cheap". It's always conveniently forgotten when it works. For most of his time here, it worked very well.
  20. Whatever moves they make that would send Wiemer & Turang down for a couple weeks better cause the run production to improve.........considerably. You'd be removing two of the best defenders on the team. Don't know if they can afford to do that while struggling to score runs. I'd tend to say no on Hicks.
  21. I've been around enough fan boards to see pretty much all the various types. His schtick is typical, it gets a little tedious, but the content, the fact that he appears to believe some of what he says, and the predictability of when he does & doesn't show up is actually kind of funny. I suspect he's on ignore for a lot of posters, but for others it's comic relief.
  22. In all fairness, SF has had a lot of base hits in this series on ABs that weren't nearly as good as the one Winker put up in the ninth. Of course, when you aren't playing well it seems like the baseball gods take a healthy dump on you at the same time. Winkers' been lousy but he deserved much better there. Turangs' AB in the 9th was very good too. Nothing much before that except we're trying to get a running game going, which we probably should've been doing all along.
  23. I would imagine he's here until Urias rejoins or Adames is ready, whichever comes first. Guys of his ilk are added all the time to rosters when there's a sudden IL stint.
  24. We've all seen examples over the years of Counsell digging in & sticking with a struggling veteran in the midst of ctiticism, so this shouldn't be surprising re Winker. But even the way the guy carries himself at the plate, the whole body-language thing......I watched him closely last night. At one point, a ball dribbled about 8-10 feet away to the opposite batters' box during his AB. He walks across the plate over to the ball, and swats it away with his bat like you would in a pickup game. How do you even do that if you're focused on the opposing pitcher & trying to get a good pitch to hit? Above & beyond his struggles, he's just looked.......really curious.
  25. Well, we got Winker out of the #2 hole, anyway.
