  1. Something I've found interesting is how aggressively we seem to be promoting players compared to past years (in-season). With pitchers it could portend a possible need after the next couple years due to some of the contracts, but it doesn't seem like anyone is really being put in over their heads either. Along with the guys CheeseheadinQC mentioned, I'll be interested in seeing where Misiorowski lands at the beginning of '23.
  2. Happy for Xavier Warren that he was promoted, but what I don't like about it is Cam Devanney will probably see mostly SS the rest of the season at Biloxi. I was kinda hoping they just plant him at 3B & leave him there. Hope to see him there at AAA next year & continue to develop at what has turned into a position of need. I've heard the idea before re Black to 1B & like it. I think Perez is feeling the squeeze with all the OF talent in the system. Could eventually be involved in a trade; really needs to clean up the K issues.

  4. That's one of my moms' favorites. That, and "why can't they do that all the time?"
  5. A lot of good stuff here that I concur with. One thing that I found interesting.......Taylor has been in pretty much a season-long conundrum of chasing, hardly drawing any walks, showing some pop but no improvement, maybe even some regression, in his plate discipline. Mitchell arrives, does some impressive things, and today Taylor gets a start & walks twice. Maybe the two aren't connected, or maybe it's just a little window into what it takes sometimes to get a players' attention.
  6. I know all pitchers are better when they work ahead in the count, but in Cousins' case I think it's especially true. If he can put himself in a position to use that slider 0-1, 0-2, 1-2 he can be downright devastating. I saw that his early outings down there were mediocre. Would be great to see him lock in.
  7. My guess is it'll be something quite underwhelming to fans. A pitcher (obviously) like Cousins, Perdomo, maybe Gott if he's ready, possibly even Trevor Kelley (don't shoot the messenger lol). If Brosseau is close to ready but not quite, we might see Reyes for the interim. Would rather see Turang but not holding my breath. Since we committed to bringing up Mitchell & they both hit LH I think the 2022 ship has sailed on Frelick.
  8. Yeah, I guess I wouldn't put him in the category of those two in their first handful of games, but he is a building block for sure. Understand, if he had come out to hit instead of Taylor tonite, I would've raised my eyebrows a bit, but out of surprise, not disappointment. I just kinda expect it due to the fact that he's hitting in the nine hole; that tells me he's only going to be behind the wheel in certain situations. I wouldn't quite say I hate it too, but I'm not a huge fan of it especially since Taylors' splits (I think) don't warrant it.
  9. I'm not trying to justify it, just trying to understand why it was done. His hit on Sunday was relatively early in the game. If it was the same situation that day but in the eighth inning he probably would've been hit for. There's always a reason, us fans just don't always agree with it.
  10. As a position player as in playing defense, no. If you're including DH I think he's better than average money to return.
  11. To me either, when you focus on them day-to-day. But the numbers say something else, thanks to MLB wanting to add more teams to the post season. I guess it would be like the NFL team that's 7-6 & still in the post season hunt. I think adding extra layers of playoffs was a bad idea, It just doesn't jibe with the essence of the game & length of the season IMO. Let me add it feels like, if anything, a wildcard race. Agree the pennant race aspect doesn't seem to be there.
  12. I would've been shocked if Peterson was left in to hit vs a lefty. Urias came in & picked up a hit, then in the ninth had pretty much the same approach as Hiura, just didn't barrel it up so it didn't have the steam to get through. I wish I knew why he's been struggling this year. People bring up his leaning-back thing, but he did that last year & was much better. As for PHing for Mitchell I think that was more a case of not liking his chances vs a lefty than any great confidence in Taylor.
  13. People rail on this player, or that decision, or the trade deadline. But this is probably the #1 issue over the last 3 months.
  14. If you're referring to this season, of course things need to change consistency-wise or it'll be a disappointing season. If you're talking long-term I see a lot of bright lights. I love the direction the organization is headed in regarding drafting, scouting & player development. To each their own. But I enjoy following this team a lot more than the teams you referenced. Because they win more. Granted after seeing the comments from some posters on here I need to check the standings because I think "Gee, we must be 25 games under .500". But contrary to some of the stuff on here (not pointing at you), they can win. They have won. And they are in a playoff hunt. If they continue to falter & finish well out of the money, that doesn't change the fact that here, today, they're in a playoff hunt. I'll continue to hope they find a way to put something consistent together. Have they shown indications they will? Nope. But in baseball I've seen too many weird things happen to dismiss their chances like this is the NBA or something.
  15. Using that system, I suppose so. But the strength with Milwaukee is in the depth beyond the top 100. I think MLB.com basing it primarily on that is dare I say a little lazy. Plus, I wonder if their rankings (in some cases) lean towards certain organizations. Like in college basketball, a kid is ranked as a 3-star recruit. He gets recruited by Duke & is suddenly a 4-star.

  17. I don't believe I've ever seen the system in better shape, and yes that includes the early 2000s, due to the overall depth. Right now, factoring in the OFs at N'ville (especially if you want to cheat & still include Mitchell) I'd say #19 is too low. Just a magnificent job of rebuilding.

  19. I have no numbers to back this up, but it seems about as bad as I can ever remember this season w/regards to our starters' pitch counts being elevated during games. Even when someone is throwing a good game you'll get to 0-2, then a foul ball, then ball one, then foul off four more. That & the number of decent (just off the plate) 0-2 & 1-2 pitches that are taken. Just not a lot of quick outs. Short starts b/c the starter had a poor outing is one thing, but they don't seem to catch many breaks. Of course I've seen too many 0-2 & 1-2 pitches that were hittable also (Burnes last nite vs Delay), so damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  20. We're now at 23 runs in the last 19 innings (18 innings if you factor in no out recorded in the 9th yesterday) so maybe the offensive outburst continues. On paper, it could be needed tonite. It's always nice to have Suter available when you're at an iffy spot in the rotation, so it kinda sucks that he worked yesterday. I'm wondering if we don't see Tellez for 3-4 days because that's what "day to day" usually means around here.
  21. Trust me.....roll with that for as long as you can.?
  22. He didn't get much help from blue, that's true. But Cruz likes the ball down. And even if the third pitch was a strike, he still fell behind 2-0. I realize I'm holding him to a pretty high standard. But that's the standard that's been set the last couple years, and what they need from him. It seems to me Williams is cruising at about 93-94 right now instead of 96. Makes a difference in adjusting to the change & I think that's part of the reason why he's getting so many balls fouled off, hence the marathon innings. You're right about the called third strikes, those have become pretty rare.
  23. No, it shouldn't be. But the straight platoon, which on paper makes a lot of sense, probably wouldn't satisfy the play-him-every-day crowd.
  24. IMO Burnes needs to be better. He has staff ace type stuff, and has had staff ace type success, guys like that get leaned on for big outs. He got ahead of the #9 hitter 1-2 in an important AB then gave him a very hittable pitch. Then fell behind Cruz 3-0. Certainly hasn't been bad, but has to make better pitches there.
