  1. Homer Bailey. I'm very much on board with the idea of Adames hitting 3rd (next year; I have zero expectations it could happen now) & finding someone to pair with Yelich in the top two spots. He would obviously have to severely curb the strikeouts, but I think Mitchell would be in the mix for that along with some of the people currently hitting in the top third of the order in Nashville. But it might take getting over the LRLRLR compulsion.
  2. OK so, I like Vinny Rottino. He hits the nail on the head with many of his comments. But tonite we give up the 2 home runs, with a combined 5 runners on base. Four of the five were gifts. One was a hit batter, one was a walk to a guy (Ruf) who's done next to nothing since going to NY, and one was to McCann who is hitting 190-whatever. And Rottino says "The Brewer pitchers made two mistakes tonight". I know what he means because that whole broadcast team is so home-run centric, but within the context of the game it was a really stupid thing to say. He hasn't been perfect but Strezlecki may be a keeper for next year.
  3. The prospects they received for Hader are, at least on paper, guys who would be in position to contribute sooner than 2-3 years. Not advocating for Burnes to be dealt but if he is I believe it will be for more immediate help.
  4. Very impressed with the quality of the ABs by the Mets tonight. Just really impressive from the neck up. Contrast that with the bottom of the 7th. Tellez homers to give you, for the first time in the game, some momentum. One out, bases clear. Two pitches later the inning is over. I mean you might as well send two cavemen up to the plate. "ME HIT HOME RUN, TOO!!!!" The philosophy is changing as evidenced by the recent drafts, and it's long overdue. Also a horrible inning from Topa, for a # of reasons.
  5. Good stuff here. I've felt all along that whichever of Cutch/Hiura is in the lineup, with this roster they should be hitting sixth-ish. This leads back again to Cain. His lousy performance then absence took away someone who could've theoretically given you one more year being adequate in the 1-2 hole. Then he was replaced by Taylor who can hit for power but with the high K's & virtually no walks. Throw in Narvaez who IIRC was a middle-of-the-order guy last year & is a shell of that now, and putting an order together has been a real challenge. Besides the LRLR thing, I have a feeling CC likes the extra whatever it would be---30-40 AB's a season?---you get by hitting Adames a little higher, not to mention him getting the potential late AB before a Wong or Brosseau would. That ain't me talkin' as I'm big on batting order construction. Just thinking that CC may view it that way.
  6. I think Turang would be just fine as a #2 hitter, the only question is would it take a while for him to settle in there, or would CC even put him up there to start. His power #'s have taken a jump in recent weeks too, enough for him to respectably fill such a role IMO. Agree that Frelick would be a potential fit there as well, as could Mitchell once the K's are lessened. If they all remain & fill roles, certainly someone with leadoff skills is going to be in the 9-hole.
  7. I had more fun from '78 to '83. I don't know how much baseball had to do with it though.?
  8. Oh, and whoever is the DH tonight vs Scherzer should scream bloody murder that Counsell is setting him up for failure.
  9. The reason is Hiura was the main alternative. Had Urias been better this year that could've forced your hand because then you have Urias/Peterson/Wong for two spots, but DHing one of them messes with the in-game flexibility CC loves. Plus the # of games you had them all available at one time was limited this year anyway. Then Cain leaving the team put your 4th OFer in a semi-regular to regular role which put McCutchen in the OF more than they probably planned.
  10. I agree with Montys' desire to have more OBP in the 2-hole & sliding people like Adames & Tellez down a peg in the batting order. I just don't know if I see CC hitting Turang up there right off the bat (although I think he should). Agree with the idea of letting Wong walk. I'd love to bring Peterson back but agree that's probably unlikely. Urias has been probably my biggest disappointment of the pos player group this season. I really felt we wouldn't be hearing any more laments about 3B after the year I suspected he was going to have. The way they've been moving people around to different positions at Nashville & Biloxi this year, most notably Turang, it's really difficult to predict how this shakes out. I do think Turang is going to have a major role here in 2023 though.
  11. As per the title of the thread, I think the most likely scenario is Hiura returns next season because McCutchen will be gone, and any potential production we get out of Hiura will be greater than what his trade value would be. The caveat is that he's included in a trade involving multiple players. If he's traded, I won't be pulling for him simply because he won't be playing for the Brewers.
  12. He's here because they've had to go beyond their first 7 or 8 starting options this season, due to injury & Small being ineffective. Pretty much any team that has to go that deep is turning to AAAA or reclamation type guys. You usually don't have 2-3 prospects in your AAA rotation, but you do have to wonder if he's better than the aforementioned Boushley or Lindblom. And they just aren't going to go to Gasser. The people on here who aren't bored with the super 2 & arby-eligible stuff like I am can explain that better than I.
  13. Cole was a bad matchup for Hiura today, in his defense. Unless he could get ahead in the count by laying off high heat, and that didn't happen. It's the same reason why Taylor was a good choice today, IN HINDSIGHT (lol). I get the feeling though that Taylor, Urias, & Hiura were starting today no matter who the opposing pitcher was. It was more a " It's Sunday, and you haven't started yet in the series" thing.
  14. This is one of those teams you can only keep down for so long. Props to the BP on Friday, and Woodruff & Williams last night for delaying it until today. Coulda been one of those back-and-forth games that ends 11-10, but Wong led off with the double & was spot-welded there the entire inning, that hurt. Then the terrible AB by Tellez with 1 out & runners at the corners. I would've started the 5th with Suter, but no indication that would've made any difference. We know of Smalls' struggles here. What I would like to know is, how does Alexander measure up with Lindblom or even Boushley? It's probably pick your poison, I'd just like to know what went into Jason coming out on top in the comparison.
  15. Urias looked overmatched, and I wanted Peterson in the lineup. Can I at least hang my hat on that?? Win some, lose some.
  16. I feel a blueprint something like hoping Alexander keeps you in it, then going to Suter & hoping that combo covers 5-6 innings. If they do that & come away tied or leading at that point that's all you can hope for. Don't like Mitchell & Peterson sitting.
  17. Probably the biggest plus personnel-wise was to get several snaps for Myles Burkett. Regardless of the competition (which was obviously weak) it was impressive for his first extended playing time. Was given a little bit of everything, even a bootleg where he showed nice moxie throwing the ball in the turf when there was nothing there. Threw with confidence & looked like he belonged. I'm sure there would be ugly moments if he had to take the helm in a conference game, but nice poise for a kid who was competing against Oak Creek & Racine Horlick at this time last year.
  18. Don't totally understand Quero. It's a long year when a catcher plays throughout w/o missing a ton of time due to injury, but I'm sure they have reasons for extending him above & beyond what I realize. I thought Nick Kahle might go since he's gotten on the field very little this year. Good news about Black. Ward is a good add. I'll admit he wasn't even on my radar.

  20. This was a fun one. For anyone else out there who's 109 years old like I am?, this reminded me of a lot of the Brewer-Yankee games in the late 70s-early 80s when we finally started winning & developed a rivalry with them. Lots of emotion. Crowd into the game. The Milwaukee shortstop drives in 4 runs. Aaron Boone even tried to fill the Billy Martin role by getting tossed. Now we need Woodruff to be Mike Caldwell tomorrow. Mitchell has gotten off to a slow start, and there's a lot more swing & miss in his game than there will be down the road, but despite that they've already been able to clip a couple coupons off him--the big HR his 1st weekend & now tonite. Very impressed with some of his ABs this evening.
  21. I would say "uneven" has been Lauers' floor. He's filled his role pretty well for the most part.
  22. Frelick & Ruiz have been pretty devastating. So good in fact, that it's overshadowed what has been a real nice stretch for Wiemer as well. Don't want to see ANY of these guys get dealt, but for the life of me I don't know what they're going to do, esp with Chourio bringing up the rear as Joseph said. It's not a problem, it's a "situation", right?? Nice to also see Lutz make it back for the final handful of games. He's had a solid year in Biloxi.
  23. Trevor Gott pitched an inning last night. At this stage I don't know how much longer you want to keep him down there if he's healthy, especially with (I assume) more bullpen days to come. To me Houser becomes a real key from here on out. His recent work has been encouraging. Of the starters missing it sounds like Lauer has the best chance of returning, maybe next week (fingers crossed?)
  24. Hopefully Floyd can put a positive cap on what has been a really trying 2022 season. Some nice bullpen potential in the system headed by him & Cam Robinson. Didn't see it coming, the cup of coffee for Chourio in AA. If he establishes himself there with a strong finish, the thought of him breaking through to Milwaukee sometime in 2024 becomes less of a pipe dream. Just.....wow.
