  1. That usually depends on pitch count, if they've gotten up in the interim & not used, was one of those days facing only one batter to close out an inning, how hard a guy throws, etc. Devin Williams threw on Saturday & Counsell didn't want to use him for the next TWO days because he threw almost 40 pitches. What makes it more of a factor for Milwaukee is we're getting a lot of starts where the guy goes 5 innings more or less. That extra inning or 2 that a BP has to pick up wears on you over time.
  2. I imagine a lot of it has to do with how some guys just aren't conditioned to throwing, sitting down then getting back up. Milner seems to be someone who shouldn't be affected by it. It's one of those things old-timers would laugh at & I wouldn't blame them. Just really protective with guys who don't usually do it.
  3. It's just.....really hard to figure that kid out. One thing is becoming pretty certain. His potential production is a lot greater than what they would receive on the trade market, so you gotta think he's coming back. Hope he threw a Rolex or three to whoever got him to ashcan the leg kick.
  4. So what we learned tonight is Yelich obviously has a better throwing arm if he hits third?. Does anyone know the contract situation w/ Strezlecki? Not anointing him as a big difference maker or anything but he shows signs of being a more than serviceable middle inning guy.
  5. He did tonite (Milner). I hear ya though, it's just not something he does with late-inning guys. That may change as the season compresses a little more.
  6. I'm guessing CC doesn't use Suter the next two days then has him follow Houser Wednesday. Alexander for the Suter "we're trailing" role the next two days if needed.
  7. The strange thing about Urias, I think his approach was a lot more solid last season, AND he hit for more than enough power. Maybe if the focus was somehow more on winning games & less on what you think helps your earning potential. Just a bad, bad season that I didn't see coming. Don't know what the roster will look like, but I assume a bullpen day on Wednesday plus only one day off the remainder of this month tells me they stay at 13 pitchers.
  8. No doubt. 7-11 since the trade. Hope they feel avenged.
  9. And all that really matters is his wealth, his working capital, his revenue streams etc compared to the 29 other owners, not to the ninety-whatever percent of the rest of us. And of course Lauer couldn't care less. Not his concern. But he also can't let stuff like this effect his performance, but a percentage of the team appears guilty of that.
  10. It's not surprising that this is deteriorating into a corporation vs employees sort of argument from some. And I doubt if anyone who feels strongly either way is going to be swayed. It just strikes me as funny when some people I come into contact with (not necessarily here) seem to want to measure Attanasio & the Brewers compared to themselves, rather than the teams they compete against.
  11. Agree w/one exception: I don't know if there's anything snarky about it.
  12. Seems to me management either communicated to the team afterwards, or didn't, depending on who you want to believe. Either way it's pretty obvious the poor play the week of the deadline was largely if not totally self-inflicted. Was the trade and feelings it caused the reason? Obviously. But that doesn't make it a good excuse. Whether it works out long-term no one here knows. But someone needs to explain to Eric Lauer that if this was simply a case of punting on the season & looking to the future then Rogers wouldn't have been included in the deal. Maybe we should just GO FOR IT!!!!!!!! while he's here to make him happy. Of course then when the window slams shut w/no hope of recovering for a # of years he simply signs with someone else. One of the things I've learned over the years is it's a much different world when you're sitting behind the nameplate as opposed to standing off to the side free to criticize.
  13. After his first couple seasons, he never quite seemed to make that next jump. I remember having high hopes for him when Bamberger moved him to the pen, thinking he'd fill a much-needed niche. The other thing I remember whenever I think of Augie is the talent pipeline he was a part of at the time at Kewaunee HS. Augustine, Dale Koehler (1000 PT scorer at UW) & Jack Novak (TE at UW & the NFL) were all there within a window of a couple years.

  15. 4 BBs & 49 SO in just over 32 innings. With one HR allowed. That's serious. Maybe one more promotion this year?
  16. Hand issues for Weimer. That's tough when trying to hit a baseball so I tend to give him a bit of a pass. Great all-around talent. Agree 100% about Valerio. At his young age I'm expecting him to repeat Biloxi & have a real nice '23.
  17. Like I said I'm no apologist for the guy. I don't think he's done a nearly good enough job this year. The thing is, the rule changes have made it easier rather than harder to manage a baseball game. There's still moves to be made in a game but compared to years ago I feel the in-game job has really been dumbed-down. I feel it's taken some areas where he & his team had an edge & castrated those edges. But even more than in-game decisions, and believe me I've had many bones to pick with him this year, I think a lot of his failures come from the teams' mindset, the day-to-day preparedness. What they do on a given day to win, that day. They had their heads in the toilet for a full week after the trade deadline, and it's seemed to set a tone. That's the players' fault, but I think it's his as well. Your biology teacher sounds like a smart guy?. But regarding in-game decisions I think in many ways the game has devolved rather than evolved.
  18. I think Counsells' managerial ability has been curtailed by the 3-batter rule, and by the DH. He used to make a lot more moves because the rules allowed it. But I don't want to sound like an apologist for him, because he's had a questionable year at best. There are different ways to respond as a manager when things are going poorly. I don't know what this clubhouse is like personality-wise, but the way he's responded this year is neither effective nor what I personally prefer. I hope my lasting image of him this year isn't the weird balk call in San Fran, where he responded by standing there like he was waiting for a bus.
  19. Yes. And other stretches of the season have demonstrated something different. Frelick certainly can make a difference. I have no idea if he will, but I suspect we'll find out. They're actually right in the mix for being a playoff team, thanks largely to MLB & their desire to get 40% of teams into the post-season. Do things have to change drastically for that to happen? Yep.
  20. Clearly not about motivation. And if you're talking about being capable of simply making the playoffs, I don't think it's about talent either. I think it's more about executing in the moment, and just sometimes not being very smart or fundamentally sound. I'm seldom if ever on the IGT while the game's going on so I don't know what the reaction was in the tenth inning, when Yelich went up to bunt. But on a 1-0 pitch he squared around &took a pitch that was about as buntable as you can get. They showed him sitting in the dugout after striking out & he looked like someone just shot his dog. I don't like to type this, but I hope he felt as bad as he looked. In the current state, yeah, they appear to be a bad team. They've also shown to be something much different at other times this season. Overall they're in a spot a lot of other teams would love to be in. Whether they can take advantage of that is anyone's guess. I don't know. And neither does the "this team sucks" crowd.
  21. I should've been more specific. I was actually referring to the injury issues when I said dormant. If he can keep those behind him He'll surprise a lot of people. Wiemer is flying under the radar now too, just recovering from sort of (I think) hand issue. The thing about both those guys, they don't physically profile as base stealers but steal they do, and at a very high success rate. Just solid all-around. Hard not to get intrigued.
  22. I agree Turang doesn't fit the profile of a 3B, but that bothers me less & less as the seasons go by. We have a guy who's on a pace to hit maybe 30 HR, hitting around .220 w/a ton of K's & struggling to get his OBP anywhere near .300--and he's playing SS. They value versatility so I'm a little surprised Turang hasn't played 3B or 2B this year before now. Mitchell definitely deserves props. To be dormant much of the season then take off like he has in his 1st taste of AAA is fantastic.
  23. It was explained why they're (supposedly) waiting until the 23rd. I think it's a dumb rule, tying something like that into a draft pick, but under the circumstances I get it.
  24. Save for Devin Williams it seems like the organization mostly stocks their BP through trades, FA signings & the like. So it's cool to see someone like Robinson climb the ladder & see real success. Maybe by next August the bullpen arm we always seem to need to add will be hanging off Cams' right shoulder. Hope to see Taylor Floyd turn things around too.
