  1. I wonder if Davis had this "effusion" for several weeks, just waiting for what they deemed the proper time to make the move. Either way it's good to hear. Really astounding that you had these three OFs recently promoted to AAA & one acquired via trade, and all four are doing well now that Wiemer has apparently settled in.
  2. Ok thanks. Thought it was L-R-L this series. Either way that would be an awfully severe case of micro-managing, so It's safe to say that other factors are in play.
  3. I was wondering the same thing. On the one hand, it makes some sense due to the fact Chi threw a lefty today, and they therefore wanted to wait until Saturday. Flip side, that's dumb because there's no way Steele was going 7-8 innings, plus it just feels more likely they would've made the move on the off day. Since Taylor mixed a HR in with his other bad 2-3 abs maybe they'll keep riding the solo-HR-and-K-train.
  4. That's pretty much it in a nutshell (the first sentence). If this was one of the recent seasons, they fail to get much out of the first three innings' opportunities, but find a way to get at least one run in. And the HR in the 7th inning is a solo because we make a play leading off the inning that a high schooler should make. 2022 is something very different. Finding ways to lose, no matter what aspect of the team it takes. Hiura being taken out is something a lot of Mgrs would do in the same situation. A little more questionable since it was tied & not trailing, but there's still some logic there. I look at it this way: if he had it in for Keston Hiura he would have every excuse to never give him a start at second base. This team is still predicated on run prevention & not scoring runs consistently makes that even more important. Frustrating, I know.
  5. Devanney has been playing quite a lot at 3B this year, not exactly a position we're deep at. So I hope he squeaks through if left exposed. They aren't still viewing Andrews through a two-way lens, are they?

  7. As far as rolling the dice is concerned, I think we'd be in more danger losing Devanney than Valerio. I think Felix rebounds next year repeating AA (at least to start the season) & re-establishes himself to those whose radar he may have fallen off of. Having said that he had his struggles this season & I can't see him getting plucked. A longshot, but with the universal DH I wonder if someone considers Lutz. Glad to hear the projections re Robinson being protected.

  9. Agree. At no point Through this whole Frelick thing was I thinking Taylor would be DFA'd. People are mentioning Mitchell. Actually right now all four of the N'Ville OFs are doing well as Weimer appears to be starting to settle in. I know everyone always says this, but this could be one very, very interesting offseason. Lotsa decisions.
  10. The issues with the offense are tied to inconsistency. But when you strike out to the extent that they do & rely on HRs as much as they do, you're pretty much asking to be inconsistent. Even so, the performance they received last year from people like Urias, Adames, even Narvaez just hasn't been there to any kind of a reliable extent. And now Yelich has given them some quality, but as a leadoff hitter, which screws up the whole dynamic even more. People putting the onus on the pitching have a point. Everyone knows what Woodruff & Burnes are capable of, but look at the work Lauer, Houser & Peralta have done in "fleshing out" the rotation with consistent quality last year. That's disappeared this year due to health issues & just pitching poorly w/ the exception of Lauer. And when we needed reinforcements, Ashby has proven to be not ready for the step up in responsibility, nor has Small. Alexander is what he is. The pitching is the one area that could carry them to a hot streak. The BP is IMO good enough to hold up its' end provided it isn't asked to cover half the innings every night.
  11. Three of four would be a two game bump.

  13. One will be a pitcher, whoever seems to be throwing well enough to warrant it. Cousins could be a good bet. Maybe Gott is ready by then. Perdomo has been throwing. Haven't heard anything about Gustave recently. Even with an extra pitcher the shuttle will probably continue. Would hope to see Frelick then if not before, but you have Brosseau coming back at some point too. You could make an argument for Davis staying due to his abilities as a runner & defender too. There's just so many ways they could go. MLB IMO never should've cut back to 28 in September. 30 or 31 would be better. I used to enjoy seeing deserving minor leaguers get promoted, even if they mostly sit. Now it's just an exercise to add a 9th or 10th man to your bullpen or add someone from the IL w/o having to make a corresponding move.
  14. Yep. I wouldn't put my money on them being in the post-season (or not being in for that matter; betting on sports doesn't excite me), but i've seen way too much stuff over the years to not have developed a "let it play out" mentality. What's unfortunate is the cornerstone of what has made them successful isn't there. Aside from Burnes/Woodruff, they've come to expect solid work from the starters behind them, and if you can be .500 or even a bit better aside from your top 2 you're sitting pretty. This year those "other" starters have been poor or absent except for Lauer. Throw in an offense that is very intermittent & here we are. The search for consistency continues. It has to be discovered very, very soon.
  15. When I see a list of the available hitters at the deadline and what each one would've cost us in prospects, then I'll criticize the team for not making a deal IF I feel said cost was worth it. Until that happens complaining about "not picking up a bat" is barking at the moon. Robo is right. This team is built on success via run prevention & has been for a while now. They need to get back to that. Of course, you can't win consistently by beating everyone 1-0, but we can't afford outings like Burnes had yesterday. Now's the time with the SP getting closer to full health. Peralta needs to get better the further he's removed from injury. Houser needs to be a lot closer to what he was last year.
  16. And it turns out both teams used a non-pitcher. It's becoming a little less of a novelty unfortunately. I get it because we're in the era of pitch counts & multi-million dollar investments in guys' arms. But it makes for some ugly baseball.
  17. Burnes obviously can't go out there & walk people like Gallo & Bellinger. No, the offense didn't come through, but that's just not something you see "staff ace" type guys doing. Just a poor day for Corbin. I thought Gonsolin was real impressive in the first two innings. It can't be easy throwing off a mound with a horseshoe sticking out of your pants.
  18. Yeah, should've just mentioned Peterson as he's obviously back before Brosseau. Sounds like he's close.
  19. Don't remember who, but someone here predicted Frelick arriving when the team returns from LA. That would be my guess. But they definitely don't make it easy to predict roster moves.
  20. It IS typical. And it's not the sexy move. And to be honest I'd rather see Turang. But what this tells me is that until Peterson or Brosseau make it back you aren't going to see much deviation from Urias-Adames-Wong starting, and Turang isn't going to be brought up to mostly sit. And jokes about liking guys with grit aside, Reyes hasn't done much to incur peoples' wrath when he's been here. There might be the other ramifications as far as super2, arby clock, etc but I'm oblivious to that stuff.
  21. I'm certainly behind finding ways to get Hiura more ABs. Just not a fan of tying the backing of him with dumping on other players. Still, CC needs to be creative.
  22. Yeah, that might be just slightly more reasonable lol.
  23. Some real aggressiveness in the promotions lately. Like to see it, especially Robinson going to N'ville. The Middendorf odyssey continues!! Keep rollin' young man.
  24. Yes, I think you should go down to Arizona for a month so we can get first-hand information?. I usually look at box scores fairly regularly, not every day. Other than that I would look at the former incantation of this board to see what stuff is being passed on 2nd or third hand. If my nephew happens to head down there I might get some stuff from him. That's about it. I gave up on the J-S a long time ago.
  25. Maybe it's a good sign they're doing this now as opposed to September. Maybe.
