  1. It does. But if such a rule were ignored & they had no picks that could rot the organization from the inside out. They would have to bat pretty close to 1.000 on their acquisition decisions. But like I said it's a pipe dream.
  2. I like the unique thought of this. But the first time a deal is proposed by them that the other team would deem beneficial to their organization, it would be hard for that team to turn it down. It would need to be real, unified stone cold collusion. Not realistic, but while fantasizing I've always liked the idea of, if a team goes above a particular payroll amount, they forfeit their participation in the amateur draft the next year. No picks. Still over that amount the next year? Sit out another one. Even better if the draft ever includes internationals.
  3. Morez Johnson of Illinois announced for the portal today. He doesn't fit the mold of having multiple shooters on the floor, but he's a terrific rim protector & I'd love to have him. That said, it smells like strictly a bidding war to me so.......doubtful. Bubu Benjamin of Tarleton State (TX) has heard from UW. He was a scorer at the WAC level. Big guard, which is rumored to be something we might be putting a premium on. After an undistinguished year at Seton Hall, Gus Yalden has decided to once again hit the road. Get in line now. Someone.....anyone??
  4. Jacob Ognacevic is in the portal. 6'8" forward who put up big numbers at Lipscomb. I question exactly how effective he'd be in the B10, but wouldn't be surprised if UW at least kicks the tires. Went to the same HS as Sam Dekker.
  5. Need to get them out of the way tonight so they can go 4 for 31 vs Duke.
  6. Yes. But I would get used to it. Looking at this roster makeup, when a lefty is out there for the opposition I see it happening fairly often if we're trailing.
  7. MD-FLA is shaping up to be one heck of a contest. Agree re Gillespie. He's been a key for them for a long time.
  8. Late in the 1st half, BYU is trailing Alabama by 8, and BYU is shooting 10% from 3pt range. That's just so precious.😒
  9. That's been going on for sooooo long. Umpires that call the 'count' instead of the pitch. Pitcher won't get a similar call once it gets to 0-2 or 1-2. OTOH, you get the call on the 3rd one if it's 2-0. I'm not nuts about robots for ball/strike calls but for this particular problem it's probably the only solution.
  10. That's fair. He's certainly someone you wouldn't mind seeing treating a 3-1 pitch there from DW like it's a 3-0 pitch & watching it.
  11. Just part of a what-else-can-go-wrong day for Chourio. Great location, AND like you said, a strike. Bad throw on the sac fly too. Flush the whole damn day Jackson lol.
  12. I'd have to look at it again. I didn't think it was a big chase when I saw it live. Taking 3-1 regardless wouldn't have been a bad idea though.
  13. the more things change, the more they stay the same. Freddy was very Freddy-ish today, which isn't to say he was bad. Murph just always needs to assume he has to find 12 outs from the pen when he takes the hill. The efficiency I hoped to find as his career unfolded, probably won't happen. Williams fits the same opening comment. Lotsa baserunners & all three outs he recorded came on full counts. Too bad Turang couldn't find green grass; that was a hell of an AB from him. If his spring and the AB he put up today are any indication I think Jake Bauers could be a serviceable LH bench bat. I would say we were victimized by a slightly crooked Judge in the 7th. Or at least a very lucky one. Capra was there for that grounder. Other than that, eh. Neither team swung the bats very well; they chased a little less than we did though. Rodon was very good. I didn't like the Yelich AB early w/Turang at 1st. Probably not running vs a LHP but OTOH don't swing at the 1st pitch. Only 161 left to shake the slump.
  14. I went to my bank today, and to my relief they're handling everything on their end. No need to call. Thanks though.
  15. My state tax refund was deposited in my account promptly, about two weeks ago. While checking my online statements today, I found a second refund check was deposited a couple days ago. It wasn't a duplicate; different amount, different name, the last four digits of the SS # were different. They just deposited this guys' check in my account. Now I get to take a trip to my bank & try mightily to avoid having to call the Department of Revenue & sit on hold for nine days.
  16. Hunter had health issues here. He never quite got untracked. Best of luck to him. We can scratch a couple bigs off the list. Mitchell (Minnesota) has committed to St Bonaventure. He might avg 12 rebounds a game in the A-10. Owen Freeman (Iowa) is headed to Creighton. Another entry UW seems to have some interest in is Amsal Delalic, a big (6'8") guard from Pitt.
  17. I don't know if Mincey would fit a Davis-Storr-Tonje role or not. But whoever Gard pursues to provide scoring from the wing, he has some pretty potent numbers to use as a persuader: AJ Storr 22-23 St Johns 8.8 PPG 23-24 Wisconsin 16.8 PPG* 24-25 Kansas 6.1 PPG *Highest shooting % of the three years as well as highest PPG. John Tonje 2019-23 (4 years) Colorado State 8.6 PPG 24-25 Wisconsin 19.6 PPG
  18. Years ago, I never anticipated the # of high-level HS recruits we now see coming out of Wisconsin. Thanks largely to AAU, the line has been blurred to the extent where home-state allegiance isn't the thing it maybe once was (there are exceptions---Dekker, Stiemsma & Butch could've gone to a lot of places, Johnny Davis was coveted, Zach Kinziger is a 4-star). As you said, perhaps the increase in tempo could tilt that. I'd love to snag Donovan Davis of Freedom HS. I think they'll continue to do pretty well in Minnesota, in the suburbs if not Minneapolis itself.
  19. it isn't easy to lose a HOF-caliber coach & continue to have success, outside of a select few programs. I'm very happy with the state of Badger basketball, not only because of the level they've been able to compete at under Gard, but because he's changed much of the offensive style w/o much of a blip in W-L, if any. And he seems to be about as comfortable with the portal aspect as you could hope to expect. Rather than constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul, it's a huge plus if you can add a piece here, a piece there in the portal while still keeping your key guys. Early indications for next season seem to suggest that. John Blackwell made some comments right after the BYU game that strongly suggest he isn't going anywhere, and for awhile now reports on Winter have suggested the same. Anyone who remembers some of the quotes from Essegian last year at this time realize nothing is etched in stone, but it sounds encouraging. This was a successful season, that at the same time leaves you wanting. Which is fine.
  20. Agree. I'm sure they're open to either. Amos has time left on the clock, too. Moving forward I think Gard likes the idea of having 4 or even 5 people on the floor that can shoot from the perimeter. That would most likely ace out a guy like Mitchell of Minnesota, who's a terrific rebounder but not a shooter. And at the end of the day I think there are people who will push harder for Stillwell than we will. Among big men, if Owen Freeman doesn't come to Madison (rumors are still flying) some of the people I like that I think would fit are Noah Williamson of Bucknell, Cooper Schwieger of Valpo & Blake Buchanan of UVA. Oscar Cluff (South Dakota State) is great around the hoop as a rebounder & scorer but can't step out. MODS: Go ahead & delete the thread I started on this subject. This one is much smoother.
  21. I used to have a major obsession with HS hoops but it's waned. Not enough hours in the week to see much of the tourney this year. I AM disappointed I didn't get a chance to see Donovan Davis of Freedom.
  22. Made me think of the final play drawn up for Tonje last night. Not the same side of the floor, but the same concept-----put it in the hands of a playmaker & let him go to work. I think both Gard & Willard pushed the right button. It just came down to solid defense being a lot more effective vs 6'4" than vs 6'11".
  23. Me too. Mods.......maybe the off-season portal should be a separate thread, as opposed to continuing it here?
  24. Very good summary. I'd throw in that Klesmit stepped up pretty well on the offensive end last night (although I didn't think he played an overall strong game on both ends). Even after coming back from the injury I wouldn't be surprised if he was maybe at 75-80%.
