  1. This. Myers was removed because he deserved to be removed, and the BP was able to absorb the innings that day.
  2. "It's a round ball & a round bat & you gotta hit it square"--Joe Schultz.
  3. He was far from sharp today but I felt bad for Patrick. He was this close to getting through six but couldn't catch a break on what was probably Vaughns' best AB of the whole series. Would've liked to see Yoho (or whoever) then start the 7th clean. May not have made a difference, but it often does. But at the end of the day if you can't generate offense...........you can't have Yelich & Chourio disappearing on this consistent a basis & right now they're both invisible. Today our DH, who hits left-handed, needed a day off---vs a RHP---after looking terrible on Wednesday. Hate to think about it, but is the guy healthy?
  4. Great stuff both Jake & Terry, thanks!!!! To me Hardin has the look & feel of someone that will touch AA at some point in the not-too-distant future. And Dinges should touch Wisconsin at some point providing his work behind the dish allows it, and it sounds like that's coming along. Pop time under 1.90 in low-A is a nice building block.
  5. There's bad games and then there's BAD games. IIRC Yelich struck out on three pitches THREE times yesterday & I don't know if I've ever seen that from a position player. With him sitting, hope to see the Chourio roller-coaster hit an incline today. The more I watch Durbin at the plate the more I really like him in the 9-hole. Wouldn't mind if he was flipped w/Haase today. Finding ways to reach, extending innings, turning a one-run frame into three or four.
  6. Maybe not as bad as '24, they've added some young talent on the mound & at the position player group. But at the end of the day yeah, it'll be a while before they can climb.
  7. Agree 100%, it's a very strange season line for Brock. And we all hope to find some batted-ball productivity from him. It's what he was drafted for. Just saying that Adams has never had issues with drawing his share of BB (and HBP, for that matter), and now I'm seeing all his HRs & over half his RBIs for the year coming in his last six games. That's encouraging.
  8. The walks.....always the walks. But in his last handful of games, base hits too, four of them leaving the yard. Looks like he may have figured something out.
  9. Had he whiffed or failed in some other way to get the run(s) in vs the LHP, I was already anticipating the cries of "WHERE WAS HAASE?!?!", which would've actually been a legitimate gripe since Cameron was still available to go to LF. But he stayed on the pitch really well. Beautiful AB.
  10. I don't remember who said it---I think it was a quote in Ball Four---but someone once said "Baseball is an ass". The Sox have to feel that way after somehow giving up six runs despite Chourio & Yelich going a combined 0-10, with most of those ABs really, really ugly. That's about all I got, except the BP slogged through pretty effectively with the exception of Grant Anderson, whose arm I assume is going to fall off any day now. Oh yeah, and I love that Frelick kid.
  11. Early May for Perkins would be lovely. Sounds optimistic to me; hope I'm wrong.
  12. Obviously Alastre was in the shadows of some of the super-hyped guys at Carolina so not expected, at least not by me. He's been moved around the field quite a bit so It'll be interesting to see what's in store for him at Wisconsin. A 19-yr-old who's K'd about once every 9 PAs in his career. Likey.
  13. Starting pitcher in the first-ever game for the team after moving from Seattle. Twelve-zip loss. That old rule about bonus babies having to stick with the big club was an interesting one.
  14. I still think he's pretty good. No, not 4-0 with a 1-point-whatever ERA good. The biggest negative I see, is outings like today---fifteen, sixteen outs---may be the norm at this point in his career and we have a lot of starters doing that right now. At this rate by July the BP will be taxed more than a California homeowner.
  15. With the key outs on the base paths & surprisingly poor defense this week (and the railing on Capras' nonexistent offense), despite all that this is a 4-3 road trip if not for back-to-back poor performances by Alexander. Ashby being out & Hudson earning a demotion---if just one of those two were 'right' it makes quite a difference. Hudson had a nice clean, quick inning in Nashville. Good sign. Agree, Yoho could be key. And I would love to see a solid week of save opps for Megill, who's troubles might be due to the sporadic workload. And maybe Payamps figured things out this weekend.
  16. Little-used reserve Chris Hodges has committed to Montana State, where he'll at least have a slight chance of more playing time. He'll have one year left, or two, or thirteen. I don't think anyone knows anymore. He stuck at UW for a long time w/little chance of receiving minutes, toiling with the scout team, and for that he deserves kudos. I hope he sees the floor there. Old news, but for anyone who didn't hear this, Daniel Freitag is going to Buffalo of the MAC.
  17. The thing about Quintana, if it was any other starter approaching 100 pitches in the 5th, it would be a litany of "C.mon, attack!!!! Throw strikes!!!", accusations of nibbling, and the feeling of impending doom w/all the baserunners allowed & deep counts. But with him, you've seen him do this nine thousand times before & you just trust the guy. It's amazing how he refuses to give in & finds a way. I thought StL actually put up some really good ABs against him, too. Today it came down to several times where he had to make a pitch, and made it just about every time. It's scary when you watch Chourio every day & see how he's such a work in progress, yet leads the team in dingers & is driving in a little under one run per game. Such an impressive talent.
  18. I'm all but certain they ARE looking around, talking to people. Whether or not there's a good deal out there no one can say, unless you know the names being bantered about. I would suspect that if it takes Yophery Rodriguez to get Priester, then people we're calling bring up Areinamo or one of the Carolina INF'S & that's where it ends. I think if there's an acquisition it'll be someone most here have heard of, who we hope has something left in the tank. Hell, Durbin was a solid but not elite prospect & he was half of the haul for one of the games' best closers (at least at the time the deal was made).
  19. Berry leaving was very disappointing to me. Financial reality being what it is, I suspect any attractive coaching/managerial talent in the organization will be hard to keep.
  20. Everyone points to the elephant in the room, which is Capra hitting under .100. And they're right. It's when the subject of alternatives is mentioned when the problems crop up. Monasterio apparently isn't being viewed as an option, which is understandable because you're downgrading your defense for a marginally better bat at best. And I don't think at this time a guy like Pratt who has nineteen games above the high-A level is the answer either. What's really hurting is Capras' start combined with Dunn doing pretty much the same thing, along with Ortiz hitting .170. That's the killer. And Tyler Black never developed as a 3B (and is hurt anyway). And for all we know Mike Boeve might be mashing at AAA right now had he not been shelved. Or maybe Wilkin if he hadn't taken a ball to the face a year ago. It's tough when all those alternatives come up snake eyes.
  21. "..........activities not associated with their school team, school, conference or the WIAA........." What I wouldn't give for the college NIL rules to be along those same lines. The first time I saw Kaitlin Clark in the State Farm ad, wearing her Iowa uni, I thought "OK, we screwed THIS up royally". Born too early. My presence as a JV HS catcher HAD to be worth a few Kitt's burgers, at least.🤔
  22. It's hard to find shiny nuggets in this stretch, but Hoskins is hot--last AB notwithstanding--and Chourio finished tonite with two hard-hit balls. Those are two RHH. That could bode well going forward. And Collins had two good ABs. His walk after falling behind 0-2 might've been even more impressive than the hit in the 9th. Maybe they'll change their organizational strategy, but I just don't see them swapping a guy like Capra, who is right now about an 0.5 on a scale of 1-10 offensively, for someone like Monasterio, who might be a 3 if he was up here but is quite a bit worse defensively, especially as a SS. What makes it an issue is Dunn didn't hit either, and now Ortiz is following suit. Unless they find someone on the cheap, it looks to me like the best hope for a replacement is to pray that Pratt goes on a major tear at Biloxi, enough that he can't be ignored.
  23. A great point that IMO too many are ignoring. I've said it before.......if you're going to ask your BP to get 10, 11, 12 outs every night--tonite it was more than that if you go nine--you can't have only 2 LHP in the BP if one of them is named Tyler Alexander. Flip side, there aren't many other options with Ashby out & Hudson missing the strike zone. Personally, I'd rather see Jay up here until one of the other two returns.
  24. That's the only thing I've ever heard about him AFA particular strengths; that he can defend. Two years at Minnesota before going to Tulsa. Maybe the best thing about him is that it keeps you from throwing Kinziger to the wolves as a top backcourt sub if he isn't quite ready.
  25. From what I've heard Bieliauskas has not one, but two agents. If that means he's twice as good as everyone else out there, sign me up. He's 19, so room to grow/develop. Battle for bench minutes between him, Greppi & Garlock looks pretty wide open.
