    Confidence can be an epidemic. So can lack of confidence. I have no idea what the personalities of Dawson & LeBoeuf are, but if there's any exasperation, any sort of a suggestion of mentally shrugging or throwing up your arms, it can snowball. Thursday is an off day, so if they don't produce tomorrow then anyone hoping for a change might put their chips on 5/15. I question what kind of a difference it would make but "change for changes' sake", while usually futile, can sometimes work w/a hitting coach. As @RobertCrawleysaid, different eyes, a different way of conveying a message, even if it's the same message. Donnie Ecker was just fired by Texas. And he DOES have a WS ring.

    Yeah, Chourio is the 3rd choice in CF. Has it worked well? No. But under the circumstances putting him there & leaving Frelick in RF made sense from an athletic & strategic standpoint. If anyone thinks his confidence is being wrecked........on average, RF is tougher for a young player unless he has experience there. This is a very difficult 'grow up' pill. He just needs to swallow it & move on. Trying to remember the last time Yelich pulled a ball. I don't mean a ground ball to 2B, 1B or a ground single to RF. He's always been sorta gap-to-gap, but it looks right now like it's impossible for him to hit a ball hard to RF w/any elevation. The HR vs the Rays was to RC. And now, the balls he hits fairly well the other way, he often pulls off them, and whiffs. Just really ugly. I know you can't go back to '18 & '19, but in a close game w/a runner on 3rd you can't strike out...twice. Through all this, Mears has really been fantastic.

    We've all learned a long time ago not to count the days when Mitchell might return from an IL stint. I would assume we see Perkins first.

    Yep, it's easy to bash the offense, right now it's pretty bash-able. But I think people forget how many games in the last year or three we won w/o much offense but stealing those outs defensively. It's glaring how that side of the ball has gone from often spectacular to intermittent, at times mediocre, and at times downright lousy. The liberties Cleveland took on the bases tonite was hard to watch. And I mentioned the other day how we're down to our 3rd CF. Chourio is still incredibly young, he's going to get better. But Perkins or Mitchell make that catch in the 4th w/o much issue. And where they're at right now, they aren't getting off the mat w/a three run deficit. So you're left with Levering & Rottino trying to make Kolby Allard sound like the second coming of Tom Glavine.

    Over 20 years ago, but Pujols played mostly in low-A ball & Yount played short season-A ball. But both went to the majors the next year, not the same year. With the rules regarding FA & arbitration, bringing Made to Milwaukee now would be nuts. It would be nuts without those rules, too.

    I would include dealing away Reese Olson for Norris. Hated it, not just after the fact but in real time. I would've held the line rather than deal Yophery for Priester, but you're right in that the full verdict on that one won't come in for awhile.

    A very, very nice man that I was fortunate enough to meet & have a short conversation with a number of years ago. Had he stayed healthy, the thought of him in his mid-30s DHing in addition to the rest of the lineup in the early 80s is quite scary.

    I don't see him in Milwaukee this year either, but I wonder if a Nashville promotion comes relatively soon. What I love is that his hot streak isn't coming in A ball, or vs some AAAA wannabes or never-quite-were arms in AAA. Some of the pitching talent in AA is no joke. As an add-on, it would open up a position for Boeve when he's ready to slip on the glove (he's only DH'ed since coming back). Of course, if he DOES move to Nashville & puts up a solid June & July.................I mean, he handles 3B pretty well. I agree Milwaukee in '25 is unlikely, but wouldn't totally rule it out.

    ..........And the guy I would've been most interested in was Rengifo, who has the lowest OPS+ of the entire list (I would've liked McMahon, but not at what it would've taken to get him). Great post.

    Payamps avoids being DFA'd for yet another day. Not that they had a lot of tough plays but today is a reminder of just what you can accomplish when you don't give extra outs & walk folks. Patricks' leadoff walk to Jansen stunk out loud though. Key outs from Alexander, who I've railed on. Although the final out he recorded was a touch scary. Just the one hit today, but dare I say Ortiz is starting to appear more comfortable at the plate.

    With the bottom third of the order providing so little, they really should go back to Turang leading off & Chourio 2nd. Chourio is starting to warm. Let's try to get SOMEONE on base for him (Yeah, I know Turang has been slumping. Still, I couldn't help but watch the 12-pitch walk he drew after the HR Friday. Would like to see that flipped).

    Yelich, Contreras, Chourio (until the last couple days), Mitchell (before getting hurt) & Ortiz have all been subpar, and Perkins was lost just before opening day. I don't think Arnold expected all that much from Capra/Dunn at 3B, but if the aforementioned players were available/performed at a level you could reasonably expect then you could probably absorb that as long as they defended & the pitching was at a level we've grown accustomed to. Hell, they've been around .500 WITHOUT those things happening with any consistency. No one can sugar coat what Dunn & Capra turned in offensively. I just think it's magnified by all the other underperforming.

    It's hard to fathom how hot he would need to get in the next two months for someone to be willing to make a deal for him. Throw in that he's seeing little if any time in LF, even down two OFs.

    The hope is that his bat turns out somewhere north of mediocre, which I think he has a fighting chance for due to his plate discipline & ability to make contact. His ceiling might be as one of those guys that hits .260 but with a .370 OBP, which is pretty valuable. I know he's played there & is the only other option on the roster, but I'm not a fan of Monasterio as a SS. I think it's a big part of the reason why Capra was added last year & made the team this spring.

    People need to remember Durbin isn't playing his natural position, and is in his first weeks of seeing big league pitching. I too wouldn't be so quick to label him as a 'last man on the roster' type. He's basically a round peg being hammered into a square hole right now. His value as a utility guy is tempered by his not being able to play SS, but I'd definitely put him ahead of Monasterio. Also agree that any criticism of Arnold doesn't deserve to be attached to the Williams trade. Unless he's a double agent designed to sabotage the Milwaukee Brewers, I'm pretty sure he didn't turn down any better offers.

    He's been out of sight, out of mind a little bit but Boeve was absolutely laying waste to high-A pitching last year, more than held his own in AA, then couldn't stay healthy. Had that not happened there might be yet another option.

    They're not at their level but you can add Ortiz & Mitchell to that list. OTOH does he deserve credit for Turang & Frelick upping their games (until the last week or two, again health is a factor there)? I want to see where the main actors are after the next 6-8 weeks, see guys get healthy (as if the baseball gods allow that for this organization), then point the light more directly at LeBoeuf if things don't improve.

    At this point they're worth NOT paying through the nose for a 3B though, at least during the past off-season when the decision was made. I'm with you on the Priester trade. And I hated dealing Reese Olson for Daniel Norris the moment that was done.

    Agreed. I was actually surprised he didn't start the year in AAA.
