  1. I hope Crosby has his Golden Horseshoe with him tonight. I sense a lot of FG attempts.
  2. “Fangraphs rated him the Mariners No. 13 prospect thanks in large part to his impressive slider.” Per Curt Hogg MJS. BTW the link is to the wrong Joseph Hernandez.

  4. Mine too, lol. The 1978 team is still my favorite Brewer team of all time. We had tickets to opening day on April 6. I woke up to a cold and rainy day, bad enough weather to have the game postponed. The rescheduled opening day was April 7th. Still cold with lighter rain at the start. Best game I’ve attended at County Stadium. Baltimore was in town that was a team with 90+ wins in ‘77. My expectations were high even though the Brewers only won 67 games the year before. Larry Hisle was the team’s big signing over the winter, however Robin Yount was a holdout threatening to join the PGA tour. Replacing him was a rookie named Paul Molitor. Well, Hisle hit a 2 run homer and Sixto followed that up with a grand salami a couple of innings later. Brewers won 11-3. They swept the series scoring 40 runs and followed that up sweeping the world champ Yankees in a 2 game set. It was quite a start for a team that never even sniffed a 0.500 record the previous 8 years. They won 93 games that year good enough for 3rd place behind the repeating WS champs Yankees and Red Sox. Those were indeed heady times.
  5. That is why it’s a massively rich man’s game. MA et. al. obviously doesn’t have the means or maybe the willingness to do that like other owners in New York or Los Angeles, etc.
  6. Exactly, and over the past decade+, he has shown everyone that he is not one of those owners willing to do that to no one’s surprise considering his primary business.
  7. Or for shedding payroll for 2024 - 2044 ( unless he losses most of his wealth).
  8. As I stated not their only goal. But with billionaires that enjoy baseball, have a large ego, love to see their name in the media and have name recognition you must agree that it is a great vehicle.
  9. Actually, the primary reason for owning a MLB team is to make as much money as humanly possible. I believe that winning a WS accounts for < 5% of the point in the owners perspective.
  10. I guess then you’re ok with never winning a WS in your lifetime (or if your lucky maybe once).
  11. With the popularity of the younger generation paying to watch gamers play they’re video games, maybe in a couple of years baseball won’t use live players and charge fans to attend virtual baseball. Sure would be cheaper for them…lol.
  12. I would much rather give that $$$ to the players as well instead of 30+ owners. But remember that money comes out of your’s and my pocket. If not for ticket prices, but new stadiums, food and beer prices, parking, etc. They’re pricing themselves out of business. The owners have absolutely no forsight. And that is why baseball popularity has declined. A couple of decades ago I could afford to attend 20-25 games per year, now only 2-3.
  13. The deals given to the top players just shows the rot that is MLB and really all of professional sports. As much as anyone here wants the Brewers to extend Burnes, Woodward, Adames, etc. there is about a 5% chance of that really happening. And what if it does? The chances of the Brewers or really any small market baseball team of winning a World Series is minuscule. Teams in Chicago, New York, Houston, Los Angeles will always have a massive advantages over the teams in Milwaukee, Oakland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Kansas City, Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, Seattle, Denver, Washington D.C. That is the way the system is setup. Even teams in huge cities like San Diego, Phoenix, Tampa, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia, St. Louis, etc. have such short runs in contention it doesn’t much matter. This is the history of the MLB and it always will be. Why do you think there is such reverence on this site for the 82 Brewers? Cuz the system is set up that way. Small market teams like Milwaukee May have short runs of 3 to 4 years and maybe win a WS once every 40-50 years before they lapse into obscurity. Just like the saying goes….follow the $$$$ as the ante will always increase.
  14. Jakobi Meyers should be fined for that lateral, think Belichek will ream him out?
  15. I’ve seen this type of defensive pass defense in every Packer game this year. That is exactly Their game plan.
  16. At this point it appears that annual club salaries have drastically increased. I worry that if Attanasio and company would like to keep it at $130M or less will be left behind. Bites of the apple or WS windows will be coming around less often for teams in a similar situation. With the contracts being signed this winter it will virtually impossible for lower salary teams to keep up with teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Padres, Rangers, Astros, etc. without some type of salary cap. The likelihood of teams like the Brewers, Royals, Rays, etc. look for ways to increase their bottom line will come into play. Look for team movements to new cities or at the very least new owners willing to increase their salary structures to occur in the next few years.
  17. Aaron Judge agrees to 9-year, $360M deal to stick with Yankees, sources confirm
  18. I laughed for 5 minutes when I read this post.
  19. Not as definitive as the previous report but JS Online updated today that Fickell offered Leonhart the DC job on Sunday and that their sources expected him to be on the Badger’s staff in 2023. it also appears that B.Allen will remain a Badger in 2023.
  20. JS Online reported yesterday that Leonard agreed to remain with the Badgers, most likely in a DC capacity. I disagree about your opinion regarding Johnny Gray. The most disappointing group position on the defense this year has been the defensive backfield. They have taken the largest step back this year and as their position coach Gray is primarily responsible for their play. I don’t believe that there is any possibility in this world that Gray is promoted to DC on the Packers and would be a major miscalculation by MLF.
  21. Interesting ESPN article regarding Bonds and Clemens career projection sans ped usage. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32806209/barry-bonds-roger-clemens-far-less-great-subtract-ped-factor
  22. Sean Murphy would be an excellent pick-up at catcher and really strengthen our catcher position. However, I would rather trade Frelick rather than Mitchell. He has much greater defensive skills ( arm strength and speed) and power over Frelick. This is much more important in the run prevention model the Brewers have embraced. And with Yelich at the top of the order we have the lead-off position covered for many years.
  23. Do you think that the Winter Meetings will become a thing of the past? With the convenience of many free online video communication platforms available it would seem teams would look to move away from on-site meetings and conferences to save money and time. More and more companies have moved on to this business model. Over the past few years more transactions have occurred later during the hot stove season and the Winter Meetings have become just a way to keep MLB in the public eye.
  24. They should start Sammy Watkins at OT….lol.
