  1. I read that as well. Man if I'm in a nursing home I sure as heck don't want a cat around.
  2. Bob is 5'7". Ouch I'm the same height. How come nobody told me I'm a midget?
  3. Those flippin lineups would have made any manaager in sports history have awfully craptastic results. Those lineups would have made most managers put a gun to their head. People say things like above -- without knowing if it is true or if such a thing actually is an attribute that good managers have. The same can be said about those who don't like him. That's why manager debates are so prevelant. It's just so subjective. Really I don't want to engage in a Yost is good/bad debate here -- rather, just want to point out with regards to Estrada, Yost handled this poorly. If he was told by medical personel that he wouldn't harm his leg further by catching and Estrada told him he was good to go then he didn't handle it poorly. We just don't know everything that went on either way. Those of us who have a positive view of Ned will see it one way those who don't will the view it the other way.
  4. I'm very happy for Brady but how am I supposed to cheer agianst the Red Sox winning the AL pennant wiht Brady on the team?
  5. I don't know about Inman's size but I do know the reason taller pitchers are preferable is because of the angle the hitter sees the ball is differant. If the ball comes toward the hitter on a downward angle it's harder to hit for some reason. At least that's the explaination I've heard.
  6. i can picture myself pretending to be wowed by this "new" technology and asking him questions as if I'd been living in a cave. somewhere the Geiko cave man is ranting about this website that thinks cave dwellers are backward. The touching guy is a good one. Anyone who invades personal space should be rounded up and forced to sit between two large sweaty people on a plane.
  7. who would you rather keep on the 40 man roster, Nelson or Nix? Seems Nelson still has a bit of a chance. Nix is by ar the better fielder and has put up very good numbers in the past. He has some speed and some power to go along with his superior defense. Injuries have been his problem. When you're looking at people who appear to be no more than role players versatility and defense have to factor in more.
  8. I'm more willing to give some amount of leeway with a young kid than I am someone who is older. I was pretty stupid myself in my eraly 20's. That said it is disappointing for someone to risk a major league career for recreation or risky shortcuts to better performance. Take care of yourself Salome and come back a better person.
  9. It's not any harder to believe he is playing with a stiff hammy than it is to believe he was simply dogging it in a tie game in the 11th inning with the bases loaded and nobody out. Of all the times someone may dog it for no good reason that would be about the last. I tend to think there must be a problem not related to being lazy. If he had been lazy running out a fly ball or chasing a pop up I'd be skeptical.
  10. I knew going in that dogs love food, but underestimated just how much.I barely have to vacum anymore because Tyson eats almost anything he finds and if i have actual meat/dog treats,he literally starts shaking like if you waved a vial of crack in front of a crackhead. Most dogs are like that. What's worse is when you get one that isn't treat reactive. One of my dogs is like that. When I was training her for frisbee she was so focused on the playing she didn't care about food. I usually get dogs to bring the toy back by putting food it in a ring by my feet. They got the food when I got them to put it in the ring. She was so focused on the game she didn't even react to chicken or fish. I ended up having to out wait her. I'd go out and throw the frisbee and wait 15 minutes until she brought it were I wanted then throw it and wait agian. Until she realized playing was not going to continue until the boss was satisfied. Stubborn little beast.
  11. I don't think it's benficial for Mark A. to be talking about it now though. I have to wonder if it's common to throw out lowball offers to start just to gauge interest. No idea how these things get started. It is also possible someone was offering a very high level AAA player in return with the thought that Fielder was more of a DH than a 1st baseman. Ryan Braun for Prince wouldn't seem out of the range of possibilities right now would it? I don't think Melvin would treat any GM differantly if they threw out stupid trade offers. All that would do is limit his trade partners. He probably just files that away and has a lower opinion of the guy. It may mean he treats them differantly in trade negotiations but I doubt it would stop him from getting the best deal he can. In fact he may even be more apt to deal with them. If they don't scout well they may overpay for someone who has failure written all over them. Ben Hendrickson for a servicable middle of the roataion starter type trade happens when people look at numbers without knowing how they got them.
  12. yes I agree it shouldn't discourage anyone from going. Dog parks are a wonderful place to play with your dog. If you have an active dog they are great places to give them room to work. The website is a very one sided view which is why I emailed him with my point of view. To his credit he not only listened but posted some hints to make it safe. All in all they are as safe as walking your dog in neighborhoods where people let their dogs run off leash when they shouldn't. It was meant more as a way to help make it a good experience. The more you go the bigger a chance of meeting someone less than attentive to their dog. The better informed the better chance of dealing with it.
  13. While I respect Jenkin's time here and what he did for the organization I'm not interested in anyone being paid more than $5 million to be average. We can find average with someone still in arby years via trade or try Gross, Gwynn or Nix for a year. Somewhere along the line we should find out if those guys are good enough to play regularly. With the rest of the team locked up for a while it makes sense to take a small gamble on younger guys who, even if they aren't as good, could be cheap enough to pay others like Sheets or Coco their due.
  14. amazing how little time it took for him to understand that word. doesn't that just aggrevate you to no end? It takes forever to get them to do what you want yet seemingly in minutes they learn something to their advantage. If I didn't love dogs I'd hate them.
  15. If Parra i going to come up, one of the relievers needs to go down. If not Spurling and instead of trashing my opinion, suggest a different one. I'm not trashing your thoughts on who would be DFAed. As I said if soemone would be DFAed it would most likely be Spurling. I just don't agree that someone has to be DFAed. As was mentioned it could have been as simple as they didn't know if they were going to replace Hall with Parra. Or a trade. It's just not very likely at all to simply drop someone who is productive to replace him with someone who has all of what a month in AAA. There is no way they DFA Spurling for Parra. It's just bad managment.
  16. I don't want to go too far down the Spurling road Patrickgpe but it's always easier to remember those than it is the other 20 times he pithced and did exaclty what he was supposed to do. I don't think there is any differnace in pitching a 1-2-3 inning in the 6th inning while down by three runs than pitching in the 11th inning. He is paid to put zeros on the board and he's done that at a pretty decent rate so far. You are right though if they are going to DFA anyone it would probably be Spurling. I just don't think anyone is bad enough on this team to be DFAed. The only guys that get DFAed are veterans who were picked up to see if they had anything left, scrap heap guys who are out of options or mistakes with too big a contract to trade. DFAing someone means you get to pay them for nothing. You have to be pretty darn bad to be more valuable being paid to sit at home than being allowed on the field. Even worse when no one else wants to take on part of your salary in exchange for some oganizational player who will never see the big leagues. Heck even Hendrickson was worth a minor league catcher. Navarro, Kevin Berry, Chad Moeller guys like that. I just don't think Spurling is that type of guy. (Fixed spacing --1992casey)
  17. his pure numbers are OK. Where Ned uses him is not. He should not be pitching in the 9th or extra innings in a tie game, unless he is the last option. He would do fine at the Dessens' role, but Ned uses in a setup which is the problem. How does one know what role they can fill unless they are put into those roles enough time to show whether or not they can do it? It's premature to say someone with a sub 3 ERA isn't capable of pitching important innings. He hasn't been around long enough to determine his abilties. Spurling may get traded but he sure as heck isn't going to be DFAed. We just got done trading someone with a 4.50 ERA a bad attitude, poor work habits and a year of very mediocre numbers previously. Why on earth would people think Spurling wouldn't net us at least something of value like the two Cruz's, JDLR, Cappy or Eveland did?
  18. I believe that if he plays well we could see him starting for us next season in the outfield and maybe in the playoffs this year, but if he struggles i can see him being trade bait around the trade deadline. If he plays well I could see him being trade bait but certainly not if he struggles. Melvin isn't going to trade someone who is cheap, may have some value to the team in the future and won't bring us anything in return now. Which is all he'd get us if he was traded when his value was low. Teams may trade for unproven players if they have a high ceiling with some power or great minor league numbers. Gwynn has none of those. If he doesn't play well he'll most likely go back to AAA and eventually be a bench player on the team.
  19. Anyways, it's now official: More people have died from Icy Hot/Ben Gay that Marijuana Look for it to be a class A felony soon.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. I saw this today. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070...kY7fLMWM0F Kind of scary really. How often does one think rubbing icyhot or ben gay could actually do anything more than irritate the skin a little. Sure makes those sports cream in the jock jokes less funny.
  21. FTJ I would love to debate politics with you. While we tend to disagree you have always been civil and polite in our interactions. Typically I find your postitions to be based off some sort of rational foundation even when I don't agree. I have a one rule of thumb when it comes to politics. The words liberal and neocon/conservative should never be used. Thay have become more an accusation than a political stance.
  22. You are suggesting that checking parking is the same as cross burning. You're using an irrelevant and extreme example to make your case about how it's important that people speak up. I've pointed out why this is flawed. This, is a red herring. Description of Red Herring A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. The example is not irrelevant since It was used to point out the flaw in your reasoning that it was none of his business. My point with the example is how flawed the "it's none of your business'" is. It was also not intended to draw attention away from your faulty premise. In fact it drew attention to it. Thus it is by definition not a red herring. You are suggesting that checking parking is the same as cross burning. Agian misrepresenting what I said. I said it is allowed to continue in part by the attitude of it's none of my business. Never once did I say or mean to say they are the same. It is also a slippery slope because you're suggesting that if people don't speak up when people park illegally, what's next?! Obviously you saw something that didn't exist or I somehow conveyed my message poorly. I never said one caused the other. I never even implied what would come next. I simply said the "mind your own business," arguement you made is the same one used for other more serious issues. It is far differant to say if you don't do something about "A" "B" will happen than it is to say "A" and "B" continue to happen for the same reasons. Your examples do nothing to defend or dispute the premise, which is minding your own business sometimes is the best route. I don't think anyone would disagree that speaking up against cross burners and such is probably a good thing. You're comparing apples to oranges here. It's a typical political move anyways so maybe that's where you learned. However in a debate class or a court of law, you'd be laughed out of the room with such silliness. Wit hall due respect Braunsboyfriend my examples are based off Immauel Kants ethical arguements. It states that if something cannot be done ethically in all circumstances or all persons could not do the same and have society function it is not a sound ethical principal. I have a BS in philospohy with an emphasis on logic and I can tell you in absolute certainty that my arguments are based on sound philisphical basis not political ones. So perhaps lay off the condecention. I would further suggest if you wish to critisize my points you at least represent what I said correctly. Your arguement that minding your own business is correct when confronting illegal or immoral behavior is exactly why my examples are both relevant and appropriate to the debate. If you have not notriced I can hold my own in debates and hope that in the future you lay off the attacking the messenger approach which BTW is a classic debate ploy usually used when one cannot appropiatetly defend a position. I learned that as a member of the model UN of UWO which successfully defended our title as national champions at the national competition that year. I'm guessing I have far more practical experience in making valid areguments than you may have expected. That has obvious flaws in it as well I'll leave as an exercise to the reader. Yet another common ploy used. Saying something is so obvious that it doesn't require explaination, I'll let you figure it out or if you don't know I can't explain when in reality it cannot be explained adequately. For someone accused me of having flawed arguements you do plenty of it yourself.
  23. To be frank, it's none of your business. You could call a parking checker but that's about where your involvement ends. We have peoples whose jobs it is to check these things and write tickets. It's not your job to tell people you're calling the police because of where they are parked. And the fact that he's a coworker...could make for a bad work environment. This attitude is what allows people to continue doing bad things. If everyone felt it was none of their business to address bad behavior there would still be cross burnings and kids would beat homeless people for kicks without worry of retribution. It was a police matter why get involved? If poeple don't get involved and take a stance on issues like that the problem will just grow. If I was being mugged in a crowded street I'd like to think someone would help prevent it instead of hoping the police happened to be in the area at the time.
  24. 1491 by Charles C. Mann. It's a look at what the Americas were like before Columbus. Very differant than the conventional views we hold today.
  25. So I was listening to the Brewers while the wife had PBS on in the other room. It has this really cool robotic laser animotron thing on. Really cool. It gave a web site with some demos. Not as cool as on tv but gives you the idea. www.animusic.com/index.shtml
