  1. Keith Law weighs in (Insider) Paraphrasing mostly: -Padres add a lot of organizational depth. -Linebrink has been homer-prone this year, likely to get worse outside of Petco. -Linebrink might not be a Type A, that determination is not made until after the season, using 2 years worth of data. A bad 2 months might push him out of Type A. -Inman projects as a 5 starter, maybe a 4. Average fastball, below-average command. "Stuff doesn't match numbers." -Garrison = Longshot. -Thatcher going straight to SD, "the Padres' bullpen won't miss a beat for the change in pitchers." Money Quote: "Adding a reliever was the right move for the Brewers, but even without surrendering a major prospect, the Brewers gave up a lot to acquire 20 innings or so of a guy who's pitched very poorly in favorable circumstances this year."
  2. Welcome to Win Now mode, kids. I've read all the pages and overall I'm ok with this. Linebrink will most certainly = 2 picks, as Doug mentioned he doesn't do this deal if Linebrink isn't a Type A. We're setting up to have a bunch of picks, which bodes well for the future but also probably means we'll be making more deals like this in the future. That's a good thing. We've shown an above-average ability to develop talent, especially in the low levels, which is who you trade for rentals. If Nate Silver was that smart he'd be a GM, not an writer. Time will tell how well this deal works out, but if Linebrink helps us get to the postseason and nets two picks, that works for me.
  3. This is Hawpe's last non-arby year, so in theory we'd control him for three more. Your proposal seems like a lot to give up - I'm not sure why nearly every trade on this board involves Inman. There's no way I'm trading Inman for a platoon guy. I'm not sure why Colorado would want Gwynn, they have Taveras and I can't see anyone sacrificing that much power to have them together in the outfield. I'm not sure Rodgers sweetens any pot right now.
  4. If you need one more, let me know and I'll fill the slot.
  5. Chris Burke is getting some starts in CF and at 2B in Houston, he'll at least get you some steals.
  6. That sounds like an adult film star. Actually, per Rotoworld he missed most of this year with a back problem. No thanks.
  7. Actually you should be shocked since he died of a lung disease, not a disease related to overeating / poor nutrition. For all the faults of the Journal Sentinel (and there are many) Getto was most always a good read.
  8. BrewCrew - did you get my PM regarding the blue Simmons? Let me know.
  9. Between that and the Creed and Canyon stories in the other thread, my afternoon is complete.
  10. I guess that means we won't be adding Steve Bartman at the deadline.
  11. You are Craig Culver. Mmmm...Butterburgers.
  12. September 22, night game. I've got a group of 6 guys that go to this game every year. As we've all aged and gotten farther away from college, out ticket connections have dwindled. We're prepared to go the broker route for tickets, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any tickets or connections, as the BF.net crowd has always been good to me.
  13. Or next year. He'll be out until the all-star break at least. That makes the extension they gave him look even worse - That's why you don't extend guys with arm-trouble history two years early.
  14. This site pwned by Doug Melvin.
  15. Does that mean we're more "now"?
  16. I've got a few extras from various games this season. I don't collect, so I'm just looking to sell them. If you're interested in any of them, PM with a fair offer and its your's. I live in Milwaukee, if you're close we can arrange to meet, otherwise I'll just ship them. Molitor (2 pinstripe) Simmons (2 pinstripe) Chirizo (1) edit: updated quantities.
  17. I'm hoping Gross gets time in CF and Gwynn goes into the Gross role of Guy #25.
  18. Add me in as well, please.
  19. 79 right now. The formula is 163-1stPlaceTeamWins-1ndPlaceTeamLosses.
  20. I've got one extra for Tuesday night. I believe its in the lower bleachers in right field, but I can confirm tonight. I'll be there with my infant son, so I won't be sitting much, so don't be offended if you don't see me once the game starts. First PM that can meet me at the park gets it. *not asking anything for the ticket, but I wouldn't turn down a free beer once inside.
  21. Checked out the birthday page, no one really cool except Freddie Lynn. Then I see Eric Owens. I have one baseball sitting on my desk, a home run I caught at County Stadium. Who hit it? Eric Owens. Its one of only 26 in existance.
  22. I'd rather have AirTran take over Midwest than someone else that already has a presence in the midwest. The only reason Midwest didn't lose money last year (as they have every other year for a long time) is because Northwest was in bankruptcy. Now that Northwest is emerging again, they'll put a lot of pressure on Midwest. I think AirTran will value Milwaukee. It will be their 2nd hub (and most airlines have more than one). Their other one is in Atlanta, so there will be many more direct flights from Milwaukee, especially to places like Vegas. So there won't be any cookies. That's not that big of a loss in my book. There's no way Midwest stays independant forever, AirTran is as good a match as they're going to find. Not to mention the Midwest shareholders (including their executives) are getting a huge premium over what the share were worth prior to AirTran entering the picture.
  23. House of Homemade Sausage in Germantown. Their cajun brats are outstanding.
  24. Here's the link. Its an Insider article, so you'll need to have that to access. The article doesn't say much, just lists the top 20 prospects for next year. Weeks is indeed at 16.
