    You know, you hear all this "small market" stuff but it's nice to see that the fans in this town are eager to hop on when there is something worth watching presented to them. So far, I've gotten 7 people to the park who haven't been there in more than 5 years. Yeah--I'm patting myself on the back. FYI--AJAY, I can't see your avatar--not sure if it's just me.

    The whole "This one counts" junk is what leads to this. It's an exhibition. If you're going to make it count, then put the best players out there and avoid the "token" All Stars. This is Selig's dud IMO. But in an All Star game, people pay and watch to see Pujols in that situation. That's the bottom line. Rowand is a great player but the average fan doesn't really know who he is outside of his face-smashing catch. But you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't know Pujols. Woulda made for great drama...

    I have a buddy at work who always says that this team doesn't remind him of the 82 team--it reminds him of the 78 team. I was born in 78 so I can't really add much to that conversation. But the point is, the pieces are in place for a good run. Many things have to go right but it's nice to know that I can talk about the Brewers contending for the Central without laughter for the next several years. I guess that's a long way of saying "The First Year"...but I digress.

    I can't take this anymore. I have to be up at 4. I hope I don't miss a miracle by JJ. I thought he was a little quick with the hook on Reyes but I guess it was time for another SS. Not the greatest representation from the Crew but at least noone was a goat. Go JJ! I'll see it tomorrow.

    Here's my first shot at this. Coming out of the break, maybe try something like this: Hart-CF Weeks-2B Hardy-SS Fielder-1B Braun-3B Jenkins-LF Estrada-C Mench-RF I know this will never happen but I love the idea of a ton of speed at the top of the lineup and I don't think Rickie will ever get going in the 8 hole--pitchers can throw him off speed stuff all day. Fielder would be solidly protected. Anyways, it works for me in MLB 07 The Show http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

    He's made 19 starts in 2007. All but 6 have been less than 6 full and 1 less than 5. Granted, 4 of his last 5 have been less than 6 but you can't think this will continue. And outside of his blowup in Minnesota, he's given up no more than 4 ER in a game save for 1 5 ER outing.. So, in conclusion, you're getting a guy who is eating innings and giving a high powered offense a chance to win. He's flat out sucked lately but I think pitchers are allowed to slump. I've maintained that he's been "as advertised" up to this point. I'm just not ready to don Gallardo and Villy the next greatest starters because they simply haven't done it. Jeff allows you the ability to develop guys without pressure while stabilizing the back end of your rotation.

    Uh--not sure how to follow up the previous posts but I just saw this on a TIVOd Sportscenter and I want to commend the Phillies for running out and helping in what seemed to be a spur of the moment decision. All the previous threads speak to how sports has become detached and all about money and moments like this make me forget that for a second. Well done.

Barry Bonds coverage--HIT IT ALREADY AND RETIRE! The Yankees--THE ONLY TEAM IN MLB!!!! Ok. I'm done.

    Glad to see Melvin and Z on the list. They've probably deserved it for a few years. There have been several moves that have made me squirm when they happened but none that look bad in hindsight. Some look unbelievably genious. Yost will get it by default if all goes well. That's all I have to say about thaaatt...

    I was hoping to see some conversation about how Yost manages the bullpen in general--not specifically to the last game. Anyone can analyze and rip apart any given game but I was talking as a whole. IN GENERAL, I think he lacks in this area and I'm afraid it will cost games down the stretch but I'm not sure how he measures up to other MLB managers and I thought I'd see some arguments both ways but this thread has turned into whether or not he should have pulled Cappy. That wasn't my intention.

    Especially if we trade them all! Seriously, though, I was coming to make this point. While there are players that are most likely playing above what has been expected, there are several key parts that haven't and will most likely move toward where they belong. As well as this team has played at times, I haven't really felt they were firing on all cylinders at one time for any extended periods of time. Should be a great 2nd half.

    Agreed. But my point is either bring the guy in or leave the guy out there. I don't care which one. I want to emphasize that I'm not nit picking each move in the course of the year. He has a tendency to be indecisive at critical times.

    I just took a final look at the standings and to see the Brewers in first place at the break after a questionable road trip is pleasing. This has also been an extremely exciting first half and I've been fortunate to get out to the ballpark 14 times. This team is fun to watch and should be together for many years.

    I've been on the fence about Yost for 2 years. I've neither liked nor disliked him. His bullpen management, however, is starting to wear on me. Today's debauchery aside, he seems to do 3 things that I feel could be a detriment to this team down the stretch: 1. He leaves a guy in WAY too long. I know you can't pull a guy every time a ball gets hit hard and there are times you have to let a guy "work through it" but anyone who watches/listens regularly should know exactly what I mean. 2. He warms guys up unnecessarily. In a way, it's the exact opposite of #1. I'm concerned about the effect this may have over the course of a season. When questioned about this, he usually gives an explanation that shows he is overthinking each move WAY TOO MUCH. 3. He just plain uses the wrong guy. Again, I know you can't have the same people pitch every day. But don't burn a guy like Villy or Gallardo when you're down 5. And don't EVER bring Spurling into a close game. I'm not sure how Yost stacks up compared to other MLB managers in this regard. I may be way off here. I'm not looking to start a "Yost sucks" thread or discuss any other aspect of his management. OK--I'm gonna sit back and wait to get blasted but here goes.

    Pitchleague--I love the thought you have poured into this allstar game. Very impressive. I'm on the 4 Brewers with a shot at the game having relevance for us. No matter what happens, it's really nice to even be thinking that way in July. I have a feeling they'll represent us well! GO CREW!
