  1. Because demand will be higher at the deadline due to a smaller available pool of SP. It's a pretty strong SP FA class and there are guys like Glasnow, Cease, Bieber who could all be traded this offseason as well. Teams might not have the incentive to splurge on a Burnes trade offer when cheaper options are available or FA options are available.
  2. Are you 100% sure of that? Fangraphs has him with 2 options remaining to start 2024.
  3. Braves have said they plan to stretch Lopez out and that he will be a guy who goes back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. Based on that I don't think it will have any impact on the RP FA market or trade market.
  4. Rosenthal puts Burnes as least likely to be traded of the Glasnow, Bieber, Cease, Burnes group.
  5. Last year their planned rotation to start the year was this: Mikolas Montgomery Flaherty Wainwright Matz Their projected 2024 starting rotation currently looks like this: Mikolas Gibson Lynn Matz ? Is that actually improved? I mean Gibson and Lynn are better than Wainwright but clearly worse than Flaherty and Montgomery.
  6. Is signing 2 bad SP really trying to improve? Gibson has had 1 good season since Yelich won his MVP and is 36 years old. Lynn was one of the worst SP in baseball last year and turns 37 in May.
  7. St. Louis really going for broke in FA! Another mid to late 30's SP who isn't very good. Probably should slide the Brewers down to 5th in the division in 2024 with St. Louis breaking the bank like this!
  8. Eh he really hasn't been good since 2021 and he turns 37 in May. In 2022 he had a 102 ERA- and 93 FIP-. The surface numbers look pretty good but you have to take into consideration the offensive environment in 2022 was really bad league wide because of the dead baseballs so while the ERA might not look bad it was below league average. Plus he's lost velo on his FB since 2021. He lost about 1.5 mph on his FB from 2021 to 2023 and he's not getting any younger.
  9. Really makes the Colin Rea deal look pretty nice.
  10. Lance Lynn to the Cardinals for $10M guaranteed. With a signing like this you can guarantee 4th place in the NL Central for Milwaukee in 2024.
  11. Figured it was time to start a FA thread where we can talk about general FA signings.
  12. So with Brewers it's history, but with the Cubs you're giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are going to splash a ton of money...got it. Might as well get the doomering started for 2024 before we even hit January of 2024. Some fans will never be able to shake the inferiority complex.
  13. Doomering before FA has even heated up. I don't understand how people can do this.
  14. Yes and the Ricketts said they can't spend like that anymore.
  15. Cubs biggest contract ever given out was $184M. Color me a non-believer that they will sign Burnes in FA when he'll get significantly more than that. No clue why people are acting like the Ricketts are Cohen and will just spend unlimited money in FA.
  16. Worst thing about Counsell going to the Cubs is it has made the inferiority complex some fans have with the Cubs totally out of control. Just because Counsell went to the Cubs doesn't mean every ex-Brewer is heading there as well.
  17. What is Woodruff's incentive to accept a deal like that before he becomes a FA?
  18. It also appears that nobody was willing to do it otherwise the Brewers would have traded Woodruff to whatever team was willing to tender him. That means this wasn't just a Brewers thing.
  19. I mean when you trade a top 30 prospect for a guy with 0 options it seems pretty clear that said player will be a part of the 26 man roster to open next season.
  20. He does not have options
  21. In 1364 career innings at 1B he has -2 DRS, 2.3 UZR/150, and -3 OAA. Better than Rowdy but overall pretty average over there.
  22. The more I think about it, the less I understand it. Why didn't we just add Hiura to the 40-man roster before he declared minor league FA instead of trading for Bauers??
  23. I'm pretty perplexed on this one. Bauers' had solid underlying numbers last year but has not been good in his MLB career. Brewers must have been lower on Avina than I would have imagined.
  24. Also did you think you could just straight up lie and get away with it? This is the only part where Burnes is mentioned. Where does it mention Morel as the centerpiece in a potential Burnes trade? Oh wait Morel was mentioned as the centerpiece of a Pete Alonso trade earlier in the article…do you think we are just stupid and you can lie straight to our faces and we will believe it?
  25. This is what someone from baseball prospectus has to say about Jesse Rogers being a mouthpiece for Jed Hoyer. Trueblood as a Cubs fan should know better. It’s insulting to post on a Brewers board that Morel could be the centerpiece of a Burnes trade.
