  1. For the second time in two weeks, a Brewers affiliate was the victim of a no-hitter, even if the latest was of the seven-inning variety. Overall, the system was at .500 for the day, so we do manage to extract some goodness within the action. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Let's get started! Transaction: This is more of an MiLB.com correction than a transaction. Carolina LHP Osbriel Mogollon was listed as transferred to Maryvale earlier this week but was suddenly back and pitching for the Mudcats three days later. Or so it seemed. Turns out it was an online snafu by MiLB and Mogollon is indeed in Arizona. This was figured out within three posts last night in our Minor League Forum "as-it-happens" thread. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes (unavailable as of post time) Final: Nashville 4, Jacksonville (Marlins) 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Bullpen Hangs on for Tight Win in Jacksonville - Carlos Rodriguez has quality start in 4-3 victory Keep pitching Carlos Rodriguez on the latter part of the workweek, Brewers. Clearly he benefits from getting umpire calls on the edges and avoiding the strict Automated Ball/Strike system. It's apparently how his game plays. Carlos is listed at 6'0", 206. Does he look like he could be a bit under that 6-foot mark? Inherited runners-scored: Middendorf 3-0. Ryan came in with only one out to bail out usually solid southpaw Rob Zastryzny - kudos, Manager Rick Sweet (and Mr. Middendorf).. Speaking of the bullpen, another fantastic outing for RHP Enoli Paredes, save #5, pitching around a two-out HBP. It's quite possible that Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem discussed Tyler Black's missing-in-action status, idle for a second game after exiting early on Wednesday, but sorry, don't have a morning update for you today. You can, however, catch up with Jeff in an interview he provided Nashville radio - go to the 23:50 minute mark here. Among the topics he discusses is how Carlos Rodriguez was pitching in front of friends and family on this Florida start. The Sounds won despite the Jumbo Shrimp throwing some serious defense at them. Isaac Collins was the victim of a fine play by the first baseman to end the 3rd inning (video), Freddy Zamora thought he had a right-field XBH here, and finally, watch what old friend Jonathan Davis did to Joey Wiemer: Despite those roadblocks, nice win for the Sounds! P.S. "Oliver Dunn led off the game on the first pitch with a 106.8 mph home run to right-center field." - Did you read the summary from the Sounds? If you did, you knew! Biloxi Pre-Doubleheader Media Notes Final, Game One: Biloxi 3, Mississippi (Braves) 1, eight innings (scheduled for seven) Box Score and Game Log Final, Game Two: Mississippi 2, Biloxi 0, seven innings Box Score and Game Log Shuckers Split Doubleheader at Trustmark Park on Friday against M-Braves - Biloxi wins game one in eight innings, M-Braves toss no-hitter in game two Yeah, it was only two weeks ago to the day when Nashville was a no-hit victim by the same 2-0 score. Noah Campbell was the Sounds' designated hitter that day, and he was 0-for-3 with two K's. Since transferred down to Biloxi. Campbell started in left field, was 0-for-2 with one K. Adding injury to insult for Noah, he had to be replaced when he reached on a force-out in the 5th inning. Campbell's at-bat begins at the 01:16:20 hour/minute mark here for MiLB TV subscribers. Campbell was favoring his right foot, attempted to test it by jogging once Manager Joe Ayrault came out to check, and was pulled in what appeared to be a "let's play it safe" decision. MiLB has a problem. Well, more specifically, the Southern League has a problem, as does most of AA. Here's the Southern League team offense figures, as well as the Eastern League's (we'll bypass the Texas League for this discussion). Double-A pitchers are all about big arms seeking refinement, but those arms are blowing away batters at this level. It can't be very entertaining for fans, it sure isn't for box score crunchers, and the players wielding the bats, many of whom remain very talented, have to be frustrated. Then, consider where this series is taking place: Sure, the Shuckers scored three runs in Game One, but needed the ghost runner in the 8th to kick things off. Thankfully, both Eric Brown's double and Brock Wilken's single were line drives. Hey, kudos to the M-Braves' hurler on the no-no. All kinds of video coverage on the Mississippi "X" feed, with our old friend and former Voice of the Shuckers Chris Harris on the call. We have yet to learn what's behind Ernesto Martinez' weeklong absence, but no formal IL placement, so that's a positive, one would think. Martinez turns just 25 next month, despite his 2017 debut. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Wisconsin 4, Beloit (Marlins) 2 Box Score and Game Log Comeback Rattlers Beat Beloit 4-2 - Herrera pitches four scoreless innings in relief as offense scratches out four runs Jheremy Vargas' expression after being robbed by the right fielder is something. But like Nashville on this night, victory despite the leather flashing on the other side. Although, the failure to cover first base by Beloit proved helpful on the go-ahead run. - by the way, I think Tayden Hall should have been called out on that play. Dylan O'Rae on base four times, and now 19-for-23 in stolen base attempts. Did you catch Francisco Castro's recent Brewer Fanatic video interview with O'Rae? Terence Doston and Eduarqui Fernandez both on base thrice. Wonderful tandem effort from lefty Brian Fitzpatrick and Yujanyer Herrera. There is no greater reason to dismiss MiLB player page vitals than seeing they have the 20-year-old Herrera listed at 175 pounds still. Hey, if it works for Yujanyer... This Wisconsin team is so effectively efficient thus far in 2024. Final: Down East (Rangers) 5, Carolina 4 Box Score and Game Log Late Run Propels Down East Past Mudcats The Mudcats definitely received help from the Wood Ducks in their four-run 4th inning, but it's worth your while to view the game log and see how the frame came together. Speedster outfielder Yhoswar Garcia is posting numbers at the plate not seen during his Phillies' tenure, but the Brewers have unlocked something here. In an age where the 165 stateside player limit looms large, limiting the number of players brought in from other organizations or the independent ranks, hitting (so far) on the 22-year-old Garcia could prove big, and has certainly been worthwhile thus far. Josh Knoth is only 18 years old for all of this season, so we should look at his efforts as the proverbial dipping of the professional toe, especially at the full-season level (not Maryvale). Knoth's game logs have been middling, but at least his six K's vs. one walk Friday was nice to see. Welcome back to Carolina for the first time since 2021, RHP Brailin Rodriguez! It's been a long and sometimes bumpy road back from injury (we never did get a definitive word on the nature of his extended absence, which included missing all of 2022). Final: ACL Padres 7, ACL Brewers 4, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Maryvale drops to 3-7 on the season. Five singles and six walks on the day. Like the Mudcats, the A-Crew scored all four of their runs within a single inning. You know the drill, the game log for the 4th inning, which brought the good guys as close as they would get at 5-4, awaits you. Who will shine brightest on the farmhand mounds on Saturday? Jacob Misiorowski for the Shuckers? Alexander Cornielle in Appleton, the lone early afternoon action among the full-season squads? Maybe Aaron Ashby and/or Yorman Galindez will have something to say about that. Enjoy your day, everyone!
