  1. You're right, Kat. I've seen Jacob's Ladder and it was right up my alley. Maybe I'll re-watch. Funny that Changling is mentioned...my wife always said that was scary; but I just figured it was because she was a kid. I'm OK with The Ring, creepy is right.
  2. After reading the other thread about supernatural occurrences and such, I am in the mood to watch a scary movie, the kind of movie that will give me that panicky feeling in my stomach (like I got reading RoCo's post about the Marquette building). I can't think of any good movies like that though. I'm not looking for blood and guts (that's gross to me, not scary) just a good ghost story, "odd occurance" story, or something of the like. Favorite scary movie?
  3. Defense is more than the sum of its individual parts. Positioning, discipline, and effort are alot more important than having a "lock down defender" in my book. Doesn't hurt to have a few of those though. I've always been up on Bogut. He does alot of things the average basketball fan does not appreciate; but are really important to a team.
  4. I wish there were dates by the story headling/links. Otherwise I like it.
  5. It will take about 1/4 of the season; but I think we will see a significant improvement in the quality of our team both defensively and offensively. It will take some time for the team to all get on the same page, naturally. Defensively Skiles is strong and consistent in his principles and demanding in how hard he expects his guys to play. That will begin to get real results partway through the season. I have not gotten the impression that we will necessarily run more offense through Bogut specifically but that we will be smarter and more unselfish about passing the ball which means Bogut will see the ball more and that is good. I haven't seen Ridnour's name mentioned yet and I think he is a very underrated aquisition. Classic buy low guy; but he will be the real key to our offense. He is one of the best in the league at initiating the offense by getting the ball up the floor. As the year goes on, he will get guys like Jefferson, Redd, Bogut, and even Alexander easy scores on the break with the way he passes the ball. If its not there we'll settle into the half court. Heck, just not having Mo will improve our offense. I have been one of the biggest critics of Villanueva; but I think we may see some drastic improvement from him this year under skiles. All that said, I think between 30-40 wins is about the most one can expect depending on when we start to gel. I like the way Hammond is building this franchise; we are still lacking top-tier talent; but have alot of second tier guys that hopefully will play the game the right way under Skiles. Now if we only had a new arena on the way... Glad to see no "NBA haters" inexplicably feel the need to read and contribute to this thread (yet).
  6. Belts ice cream stand may still be open for the season? Otherwise (also), the parks downtown by the river as suggested.
  7. After researching a bit, I think I like Macha. He rubs people the wrong way because he seems incapable of not telling the truth at all times. I'll take that. It seems like Beane was just as much the problem in Oakland and created very negative situation to which Macha reacted (very harshly and publicly). Everything he says and thinks about baseball is right up my ally. If guys need pampering, they're in the wrong business. I also think Macha will do better with that stuff in a less toxic environment. This interview sold me: http://audio.weei.com/m/audio/8930303/ken_macha.htm
  8. I don't think Yost would have stuck with McClung in that situation.
  9. Council must have forgotten that he is a "winner"
  10. We sleep together, she insists; but I don't mind. No snoring issues; but I roll around a lot and we like different mattresses. She's also all elbows and knees. I just couldn't stomach getting a sleep by number....too infomercial for me. We solved it be getting a king-size bed and filled the frame with two extra-long twin mattresses and bed-springs. That way I can sleep and roll on my board without bouncing her around on her marshmallow and as a bonus, she doesn't elbow or knee me anymore (unless she does it intentionally). Now that I hurt my tailbone somehow, though, I wish I had a little less of a board. JWil: Have you tried lotion for the 20 minute itch?
  11. Kevin (Northwestern?) and Darren (Harvard? or maybe Princeton) were. I don't think Chris was D1. Darren and Chris were NDA grads. I threw an alleyoop dunk to Darren at a lock in my freshman year. My 15 minutes http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. http://www.notredameacademy.com/resources/kingtriton125x1511.jpg Of Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay. The most recent example of someone people might know is Deron Washington, who played for Virginia Tech basketball the past few years and was drafted by the Pistions this year. The best thing about his connection with Notre Dame is that he didn't even crack the rotation. The most embarrassing part of that is that its not because he wasn't good....I think the coach just somehow failed to notice how good he was. I would guess he averaged less than 2 ppg his junior year. He came into one game later in the year and pulled a two footed/two handed baseline drive dunk over people out of nowhere. He transferred soon after that. Here is my favorite Deron moment (especially since I hate Duke): and then there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm6Uz0li5Us&feature=related Yeah, I can see how you would miss him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  13. I'm having alot of fun with MarioKart right now. My wife is asking ME to play--if you only knew what a switch THAT is http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. The online play in particular is very good and fun. I always imagine some 4 year old in France is taking me to school. Very motivating. I love the prediction portion of 'everybody votes' for some reason. Must be the sociologist in me--what kind of group of people own Wii's? Seems like optimistic people who believe they have control over their lives. Although recently a "best of times vs. worst of times" was split right down the center (probably still points to optimism at this point in time compared to the general public). I also have been enjoying the laid back, open ended approach of "Endless Ocean". You basically boat/swim around and collect fish and other stuff. A great one before bed. I had the same, more jumpy experience moving my Wii to a bigger TV. Only in the menu though.
  14. Uggh, I was hoping for more actual bucks/basketball talk rather than more crap. The more I let the trade/draft settle out, the more I think Redd is destined to stay here for this year. I think Mo and CV may be destined for other places; but it will only happen if they get a starter at either the 1 or the 4 in return (I'm sure they prefer the 1). It seems like Hammond is taking a balanced approach to rebuilding/restructuring the bucks current roster/contract makeup, using quality veterans and young developmental guys. I like the Alexander pick more and more as I research--a little bit of bulk and an improved face up jump-shot and I think he's a 4. I think he'll back up the 3 and the 4 for this year. I'm sad about losing Yi so early (I think he'll still turn out) and I think I was the only Bobby Simmons supporter in the state although he CERTAINLY underachieved and was not worth the money (injuries, misuse, and malaise caused by losing did him in) and it was a dumb contract to begin with; but RJ is a very solid player (check out his shooting percentages last year, and rebound/assist numbers) in return that will improve our team immediately. Where can we get a solid PG? We've shown we can lose big with Mo--I'm sure that worst case we can do the same with Sessions without the overpaid selfishness factors.
  15. Thanks alot sgtcluels, now I'll be checking every post for the mysterious "white text" for the hidden message. I saw the movie last night and also was not impressed. Nothing much more to add.
  16. I have many of the same dreams. The tornado dream that Hawing describes is very familiar. Like her I always see one or multiple tornadoes off in the distance--these dreams are often very vivid. They also have the fun element of having trouble getting to the basement or getting there and realizing a loved one or a pet hasn't made it yet and having to go back out and get them. The forgetting I signed up for a college class, or being unable overcome 1001 insignificant annoying little obstacles to get somewhere or accomplish something is very common for me as well. I wonder about dreams that reoccur for so many people...
  17. I have the opposite of sleepwalking: I kind of wake up, but cannot move. Often times it is after I really woke up once and went back to sleep. I can hear, feel, and think almost normally, but can't move. Sometimes it is accompanied by dreamlike sounds, voices, or feeling like I'm being shocked. I also can get panicky and try to jerk myself awake or alert my wife somehow so she can wake me up because of the feeling of paralysis or a slight suffocation feeling if I happen to be "re-breathing" air. I was more panicky when it first happened when I was a kid and I didn't understand what was going on. I find that if I relax I either wake up fully or slip into a deeper sleep. My amature theory is that my body doesn't know when to quit producing that chemical that keeps you from sleepwalking or that it produces too much; but maybe I've been watching too much House http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I agree that it is more of a Dish issue than a FSNWi issue, but I figure they may have some clue or maybe even have an interest in who receives their HD programming (vs who is supposed to). Got the run-around today again from Dish Network. So far so good tonight though, the HD game feed is still listed on their guide. I am in agreement about Trenni, great work on the air, and obviously above and beyond in customer service off of it.
  19. Nothing from my team yet. They can be a sluggish bunch. I should have something for you tomorrow. FWIW I agree that modified is alot closer to baseball than either slow or fast pitch.
  20. I got a response from Trenni on this one and she has someone looking into it on the FSN wisconsin side. In case anyone cares.
  21. I'll check with the rest of the team (I'm an add on myself). It's a modified semi-competitive league.
  22. 40" (so not too huge...good for my smaller living room) 1080p, 120HZ samsung LCD. It has performed great for the HD movies and sports. I've enjoyed those other sports too; but the brewers are #1 for me (even though I'm in green bay)
  23. Unfortunately, Dish Network did not carry Wednesday's Reds/Brewers game in HD for some reason. I could not get any answers as to why from Dish Network (they just transferred me to tech support--grrrr!!) I did get the first HD game, so I know that it is possible (and how HD and HD channels work and that I subscribe to get them). My brother who lives about 30 min north of Milwaukee had the exact same problem. It was even listed on my chanell guide a few days before (I know because I set the DVR) and it just disappeared the day of. I'm very frustrated because this year's extensive HD brewer schedule was the #1 reason I shelled out for a nice TV. I have a message in to the FSN WI site; but haven't gotten a response so far. Any ideas why dish wouldn't carry some HD games?
  24. same question for Dish Network (I'm in GB, though). I can't find any info about it on their site.
  25. Best line of the night: "3/4 of you here tonight are faster than Estrada" He sounded more in favor of Villanueva out of the bullpen (which I think is a change). Suggested lineup included Cameron second. He dished out more Escobar love and about 1000 "and that's"
