  1. Steve Keifer? George Canale? Earnest Riles?
  2. Melvin chose to pay a small premium to avoid the risk of not having him on our team and having to replace him with someone worse. Money well spent in my opinion. His defensive value over possible replacements alone makes him worth it. I happen to think his offensive game is competitive as well compared to replacements.
  3. Personally I like "Get up get up get out of here, Gagne!" Can't remember where I heard that one. Good low risk/cost signing. It will be interesting to see how he fares. Seems like a decent guy. Wants to be in Milwaukee (so he must be decent). I was at his seat giveaway game, it was nice to see him get some positive fan feedback and it was a nice gesture.
  4. I have an officer's post in a facebook group that my cousin founded. It may be of interest to you--give your facial hair a purpose. Lots of brewer fans involved. Facebook Virtual Mustache Wall
  5. True, look how long Sutton managed to pretend he was over the moon for the Brewers.
  6. My brother in the Milwaukee area just said Homer was saying we reacquired Joe Dillon as a result of Hall getting hurt...can't find anything online to confirm that. My brother is a big Dillon fan for some reason, so maybe it is wishful thinking or a joke by Homer?
  7. If in Green Bay, go to the Ghost Town, I mean East Town, Mall. A couple of siblings own a video game place over there, I have gotten alot there over the past couple of years.
  8. I think the Brewers think Ben mismanages himself--my guess is they both wrote each other off and both had some good reasons to do so.
  9. I have a Dell desktop from about the same era. The XP should be on one blue disk. If you put the disk in and start the computer, it will walk you through. I've done it/had to to it a couple of times.
  10. I am enjoying the heck out of this game. Having never paid attention to how the brewers handle their low/mid minors, I do have some questions: How do you handle the influx of players after the draft? How quickly do those low minors guys move up? What is a good rule of thumb of when to move a guy up, when to let a guy stay at a level, and when to cut ties with a player? Is there a quick/easy way to evaluate players to get this stuff done? Is my higherarchy of difficulty below correct? brewers nashville huntsville brevard county (thanks Ry) WVP (now Appleton) Pioneer AZ Brewers I'm doing OK with prospects I know (although some inexplicably suck in this game); but I may have permanently screwed up everything below AA, and that will hurt me down the line.
  11. I absolutely love Prince. I love his game, his passion, and how human he is. It is almost like some people expect that because he's an athlete he won't have faults, issues, or problems. Or maybe there were some just waiting to jump on him the minute he showed his humanity. I love all of that about him. I am realistic in that I know trying to sign him to a longer term deal would not only be difficult/impossible; but it would also be a bad idea given his body type and position. In the meantime, I really appreciate what he brings to the table as far as style and substance and what he has meant to the organization.
  12. Add that to the list of things I never thought I'd read in a Mientkiewicz thread. Well done
  13. "the letter" Joe Cocker version
  14. Hoffman? (answering thunderbat's question). Doug Jones?
  15. alas, it does not. Thankfully we all have dvd players right?
  16. Let me guess who the outfielder is.....http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I just bought this guy, waiting on delivery. canon camcorder
  18. The feeling old benchmark for me was when my favorite baseball players I looked up to were the same age and younger than I was.
  19. I have to say, I am impressed with the general throwing speed around here. I was very proud at my 78-79 mph in highschool;but that seems about average around here. I was mainly a catcher; but also functioned as a 1 pitch reliever in a pinch.
  20. Well, thanks to this thread I now use adblock and installed zotero for my wife who is in gradschool. Can anyone tell me how to set firefox so it goes back to the place I was looking at when I go "back" to a site (rather than back to the top)? This is especially annoying at BF.net. IE seemed to do this automatically; but I can't find the setting on firefox. In general, the switch from IE has been unbelievable though.
  21. Melvin spent 10 mil on him because that is good value. Traded or not. I may have Brewer colored glasses; but that sound wildly pessimistic and unrealistic. From the start of last year, we basically have lost Sheets (not even officially) and some bullpen parts we either weren't counting on or shouldn't have been counting on to start the year. We retain all of our young hitters, none of which had what you would term a "career year" last year (maybe Braun and he could repeat), and several of which underperformed. There's no reason to think they won't at least produce what they did last year as a group. So losing Council, Branyan and Kapler should have us looking for the nearest bridge? I'm not saying this has been a banner offseason, nor that we will necessarily improve; but losing 90 games? Yikes.
  22. Not sure why so many want Hoffman. I'll be glad if we don't pay for a closer, I've never liked that idea given their unpredictability and cost. McClung should either be a starter or the closer this year.
  23. So your idea is to not make as much money as possible screwing people without other choices over? I like it. My best idea ever was the electric guitar chord progression in Boston's "more than a feeling" when I was seven. Turns out I had heard the song before (a young Coldplay protege). My second best idea was inventing the phrase "I know you are but what am I" in first grade. My wife thinks I may have lifted that as well; but I don't think so.
  24. There is definitely some truth here; however, some of my negative feelings about the whole situation was the negativity on his part that appeared to happen after he turned down the offer. I have no problem with people going year to year arbitration wise by choice; but sulking about the lack of a contract or the pay amount after you make the choice doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe that was just my perception of Fielder's demeanor though.
