  1. Macha looks like saruman conjuring a nice winter storm to throw in gandalf's direction.
  2. sounds like the start of a good joke
  3. I would agree with you on their newer stuff. The older stuff is more creative, interesting, and varied; but of course they've played it and we've heard it a million times. They aren't too far away from being too old and/or yesterday's news themselves.
  4. hence the sliding scale. "Where" weighs very heavily on MY sliding scale as evidenced by where I choose to live and in proximity to whom and what (Green Bay, Family, my job). Every person (or in this case, player) will be different and some would probably fit well with Boras. I'm guessing that if players and/or their agents valued family stability and maintaining existing organizational and community relationships more they would be more satisfied with their career than if they made a few million more (or in some cases less) chasing dollars around.
  5. True, I am projecting my own value system there. I guess specifically I would like Boras' clients to realize that he places zero value on what should have at least SOME value on a sliding scale depending on the person's values. If someone has an agent acting on their behalf that does not take an important piece of the puzzle into account, they should "wake up" and realize that this person does not have their total best interest in mind. "If money is all that you love, then that's what you'll receive." I know you'll be able to spot that one http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. I agree, that's why Boras has been successful. I'm waiting for the players to wake up; however.... I also agree with this. I tend to live in a bit of a fantasy world though, so I'll hold out hope.
  7. Not me, that would just martyr the guy and I would not be able to tolerate it. I'm just waiting for guys to figure out that Boras only cares about total dollars for his own benefit. He places zero value on "non-monetary" things like playing in the same city, not have to move, consistency in kids schools, being comfortable with a team/organization, being loved by fans and the city, etc... How many times do you see players change teams and end up regretting it for various reasons and/or performing at a lower level? The reality is that these things are worth something and Boras doesn't value them in the least because they don't benefit him. If players ever figure this out, Boras will fade away into irrelevance. That's how I want to see him go out.
  8. I have never boo'd anyone. Instead of booing, I just make a high pitched "oooo" sound (like an owl without the H and the T) because that's what it ends up sounding like when the whole crowd does it. I ooo oposing players sometimes (Bonds). I've never ooo'd a former brewer other than Sheffield. I have ooo'd many a bad call and cubs fans.
  9. Speaking of, every day I hear a radio commercial for doublemyspeed.com and I swear the guy in the commercial is saying doublemyspeed.kong, doublemyspeed.gong, and doublemyspeed.gon. I've never hear of those internet suffixes; but I haven't tried them out yet either so maybe they work http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. The Gold, Neugebauer combo for me. I'll throw in D'Amico--he kind of made it; but not like I thought he would.
  11. sorry dadofandrew, that just sounds wrong http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  12. I think he's a good guy; but a bit immature when it comes to filling a role on a team; which realistically is all he'll ever do. I've defended Macha right along; but something stinks here...he reminds me too much of other out of touch coaches I know personally, and add to that that I haven't liked his strategy as much as I thought I would. The revisionist pro-yost comments bother me. Nothing could make me want to go back to that. It IS possible to have a good manager; but we can't seem to find one.
  13. I think this is all a sign that the TV execs that plan all this stuff are delaying retirement.
  14. I think he meant no one is talented enough at their JOBS to be worth 1 mil (or no one's job is worth it for anyone to pay us 1mil to do). And I agree with him otherwise we would be paid as such. The supply/demand of/for our skills dictate our pay. Corey Hart's too; although the arbitration process artificially sets the demand for Hart's services by lowering the potential bidders (1) and artificially props up his ability to command a certain level of pay (not directly determined by the market; but indirectly by comparisons).
  15. Bogut, Jennings, and Ersan, of course!
  16. I know we have already given some love to squad 6 here; but let me pile on. I was suprised and impressed at their contributions at the game last night which included: singing "love stinks, yeah yeah" and "jenny craig" at Kevin Love, chanting "Rubio" at Johnny Flynn, "eat a sandwich" and "hit the weight room" at corey brewer and "Brandon's better" at Sessions. They are a very well organized and basketball educated group. They also kept their energy level high all game; which I did not think would be possible. What a good idea.
  17. Leaving tomorrow. That should be enough to fill two evenings. Thanks!
  18. I've mostly been a fan of what Hammond has done; but I'm not sure where he's going with this. I'm all for competing while building a team because I think it helps organizational culture and I"m not convinced that "selling out" for a high high draft pick pays off all that often/all that well; but Redd's injury plus the way this team has played should equal "waive the white flag" as far as personell moves in my opinion.
  19. A coworker and I will be staying downtown Houston starting wednesday evening until friday afternoon, so we'll have two evenings to work with. Any input is appreciated!
  20. does Mike Redd own a gun?
  21. Most fans or most 'educated' fans? I know I have plenty of instances where someone (Vladimir!) golfs a good pitch out of the park and I know it was a good pitch despite the result. Not that I'm educated http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. The biggest thing that jumped out to me is that what the hitter is expecting vs what the pitcher throws will have an effect on the outcome. If the pitcher is predictable you will have a lot worse results. I'm sure there's alot more to it; but there's my 5 minute read, one minute react reaction. Fun read.
  23. Re-reading Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King 10 years later. Loved it the first time and need to get the bad taste out of my mouth from that putrid movie. We'll see if I unearth anything new this time around at a much different place in my life. Boy, I love Crunchy Corn Bran and am so glad it came out of hiatus.
  24. maybe you've been smoking the wrong stuff? Just kidding. I thought that was weird too. From a baseball side I can see why the brewers may have considered adding Jeffress to the 40 man; but from a wider view/personal side I'm glad they did not. I think this sends the right message to Jeffress and the rest of the organization not just about weed (which I'm not too concerned about); but about going about things the right way to be successful (basically getting your stuff in order and acting like an adult and a professional). Jeffress just seems like a weird dude, kind of along the lines of Rickey Williams, and I have my doubts that he can square up on this. This is obviously just a guess; but even if he does get this issue behind him his personality may hold him back from harnessing his potential either way. I'm really pulling for him though.
  25. The whole framing Jim thing was a little weird; but there were a couple of off-camera Dwight quotes during the times when everyone was talking at once that were great. You just knew it was him either being artificially encouraging or critical to get things moving in "the right direction". His Toby imitation was priceless. It was Dwight's best episode in a while.
