  1. Don Money specifically mentioned Gamel's struggles in dealing with adversity in a recent article (that I can't find now). He has run afoul of team officials in the past over reporting to spring training and unreported injuries. I personally witnessed a temper tantrum he had a couple of years back when he found out that he was being assigned to a lower level than he thought he should be. Granted that was a couple of years ago, and I'm sure its disapointing news; but his reaction was extreme and left a bad taste in my mouth about him. I haven't particularly like how he has been handled by the club; but part of being a major leaguer is dealing with adversity and my guess is this is why he hasn't played as much as we would have liked as fans.
  2. In my view, Macha doesn't like immature players (McClung/Gamel for example). For my part, I don't either.
  3. How many crappy players not getting playing time have said that about their coach/manager in the history of sports? "he only plays the players he likes, he doesn't like me", give me a break. If this year psychologically ruined Gamel, he better be put on suicide watch if something really bad ever happens to him. It sounds to me like immature players have a problem with Macha.
  4. I agree with Money's point that he has to mature to the point where he can deal with adversity a little better. From what I've seen/heard of him, he has a lot of growing up to do. That said, its the Brewers job to know that and to handle him accordingly...they didn't
  5. so.......you're not in? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. My wife and I both really enjoyed it. I'm not great at this doc brown stuff; but isn't it a bad idea to start an investigation with what he saw in his flash forward? Seems like they just set themselves up to run around in circles trying to fit what they know they'll create; but it won't necessarily mean anything?
  7. Are you death?
  8. He would think that irregardless of being bias.
  9. except Gadzuric apparently. I don't like the no-match because giving away assets for nothing is a bad idea if you don't have many assets. I didn't want Sessions on the roster; but something in return would have been nice. Same for Villanueva.
  10. I'm as frustrated with Macha as anyone; but I am having a hard time stomaching the positive Ned Yost talk...everyone is entitled to their opinion; but can't we just leave it at they are both horrible? There are so many other people on earth that could be managing our team....do we have to compare these two? I'm partially kidding...
  11. You have to be joking...Juan Pierre anyone?!? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Common, you know brewerfan would have HATED Crash! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif While I'm at it, we would have also hated Willie Mays Hayes, maybe Roger Dorn depending on his OBP. Of course we would have loved Roy Hobbs and Pedro Cerano.
  13. I originally thought Macha was a good choice because of his offensive philosophies (or at least what I thought they were), don't give up outs, value OBP, etc... I do like how he handles the pitching staff, media, and his general attitude over Yost. What I have learned that I don't like is the well-documented poor handling of bad players (Gamel in particular) and I HATE that he uses 10-20 AB samples to put together lineups against specific pitchers. That is just plain stupid. I'm not sure who to blame Patterson's presence, ignoring Heether, and JJ's playing time on.
  14. You've been around this board long enough to know: strikeouts don't matter any more than other outs and they may matter LEAST for a leadoff hitter. Unfortunately his sub-human OBP does matter, especially for a lead off hitter. Choosing Patterson over organizational guys like Heether makes me angry.
  15. Saying his value is less than 10 million is something I cannot agree with. Cameron was worth much more than the 10 mil he made this year. I'm guessing he would give us a discount to 12-14 million to play for us again and I would pay it if I were Melvin. The only other point I could agree with is Tbadders: offering arbitration and letting him walk for draft choices because we are a couple of year away from home grown pitching contributions/contending. What makes me sad about that is we are wasting a good part of our Gallardo window. That's reality though I guess.
  16. The power 50 and comments on the brewerfan page is great. It makes me more pessimistic about guys I'm optimistic about right now...hendrickson, krynzel, etc...yuck.
  17. His old radio show was great. I used to listen to it every afternoon in college while playing Madden. Not much sports; but funny pop-culture stuff. Strangely enough, I'm not sure sports are his thing.
  18. But it makes the argument so much easier. To be right all I have to do is say Cameron is better than Fukodome LOUDER and/or more often.
  19. I hope Melvin takes a serious look internally for some potential pitching help; but for some reason he seems loath to do so in favor of crusty inferior veterans. Butler, Dillard, Cody, Wooten, Axford, maybe even Jones , Rodgers, or Braddock could be of help at some point next year. I know it would be ideal to let guys develop a bit more and that they'll be raw; but they'd be replacing guys like Burns for gosh sakes--they'd be instant upgrades.
  20. I agree that Hardy will not play for the Brewers again. This is a last ditch effort by Doug to raise his trade value in any way possible at this point, and its a good idea. It's dissapointing it has to end this way for Hardy, who has been a good Brewer. I wish him well where ever he ends up.
  21. I believe you mentioned the whole year. He has made a lot of great plays throughout the year mostly going back on balls in the alley. He routinely makes great plays look really easy. While he has dropped off from his prime, his defense is generally taken for granted. Either way I doubt either of us is going to go back and count so we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  22. Just curious if anyone is enjoying watching Brewer baseball right now. It seems like everywhere I turn there is complaining and negativity about the brewers. I feel like a severe minority in my enjoyment of these last few days of baseball this year. Sure I wish we were in the running for the division; but we're not. In a couple of months I'll be wishing the season was still here or that the next one would start. In mid-winter I'll be scouring sports news for any tidbit about the most insignificant Brewer news or rumors (and enjoying reading threads hundreds of pages long here at brewerfan about them). By next spring I will be thirsting for baseball so hard that it will hurt. Winning is the bottom line in sports, and it probably always has been; but it seems even more all or nothing now than it used to be. Maybe its my imagination.
  23. saw it last night. Awesome. I disagree about the sequel, though, I think the mean to leave the loose ends loose. Or at least I hope so.
