  1. XM 179 for those who have XM radio.
  2. On Talkin' Brewers Today Jim Powell said that Vinny could play shortstop in a pinch, is that where you got that from. If Powell said it, than it must be true. He played SS in college at my alma mater, Wisconsin - La Crosse. Obviously, that is a lot different than playing SS in the big leagues, but I think its safe to say Vinny could play SS in an emergency. He probably doesn't have enough range to spend a lot of time there. But, if Hardy or Hall goes down and the other is also injured or has been removed from the game, Rottino could finish the game there at the very least.
  3. And, yea.. why is Koskie still playing with the Brewers? He asked for and received permission to remain with the Brewers until just before Canada plays in the WBC.
  4. Eveland replaces Rottino That gives me the answer to the question I came here to find (who pitched the 3rd inning).
  5. you cannot statistically prove or disprove the mental effect on a pitcher with a speedy runner on first. Exactly right, Blazer. Ask a pitcher if having Carl Crawford, Podsednik, Pierre, etc on 1st base is different than having Damian Miller leading off over there. I guarantee they handle the known base stealers differently than the guys that run like they are carrying refridgerators on their backs.
  6. I think Capellan can handle it. He didn't do great in AAA Latin Cappy's numbers in AAA were skewed by his struggles as a starter. As a reliever, he was lights out. Still, I think he will have to work into that 8th inning role. Is Wise special? My gut says no, but there are a lot of stats floating around that scream yes. Can he keep it going? Let's hope so. He sure is fun to watch pitch.
  7. As for Hr's and Rbi's, well Nelson Cruz hit 27 bombs this year in 456 ab's...so, he could easily hit 30...He was also on pace for over 100 rbi's in a 600 ab season...not to mention he had 99 the year before.. Corey Hart had 19 hr's in 485 ab's...which would have set him up for 25 or so over 600 ab's...he has also had two seasons where he drove in 90+ runs...and he did it with rummies like krynzel in front of him... AAA... Before I deal a Carlos Lee type player, I want to know that these guys (Hart and Cruz) will perform the way you portray them. Don't tell me that they COULD do this or that. I could win the lottery, but I'm not going to quit coming to work until I actually do. If the Brewers trade Carlos and neither Hart nor Cruz pan out right away, which is a very realistic possibility, 2006 is down the drain more than likely.
  8. I'm not opposed to trading Carlos if there is a suitable replacement ready to step in. To date, I have not seen any evidence to suggest that there is. Corey Hart showed very little in his short time with the Brewers. Nelson Cruz only had a handful of at bats. Tearing up AAA is one thing... doing it at the Major League level is an entirely different thing. That's why there are "AAAA" players - guys that are "too good" for AAA but can't cut it in the Big Leagues. I expect Hart and Cruz to both have good, long Major League careers. But, there is just no way to know if they are ready right now without giving them a chance to play. The problem is, trading Carlos now (in order to give one or both a chance to play) would be dismantling the hopes that they have worked so hard to build. If the crew is out of the race at the deadline, trade Lee at that time. Do not trade Lee this off-season. If the Brewers are still in contention at the deadline in 2006, keep Carlos, and we can have a "Should we re-sign Carlos Lee" thread at this time next year.
  9. Overbay and Jenkins have excellent numbers vs Claussen. Hopefully that can continue and the boys can get to Claussen early and often. While games like last night's are fun, I wouldn't mind seeing this one "over" early.
  10. For the sake of this argument, his K rate against lefties is irrelevant, given the fact that I made no allusions to him starting against a single lefty (or even getting a single at-bat against a lefty). Agreed. The reason I threw that in there is I thought it was an interesting stat - I didn't realize he was THAT bad vs lefties. And Bill Hall has struck out in 21.2% of his at-bats this year... I don't think the difference between the two (36.3%-21.2%) warrants as much grief as Branyan gets. Over the course of 400 at bats, that's 61 more K's for Russ. That's pretty significant. But, the main point is that it would be a huge disappointment (for me) to watch Russ play the bulk of the time vs righties, when Billy Hall has clearly earned the 3rd base job (barring a FA move, which is probably unlikely). Hall's biggest value is as a utility man, so certainly he should split some time with Branyan at 3rd and pick up games at SS and 2B. But if Branyan gets more starts at 3rd than Hall, that's a shame IMO. Hardy and Weeks probably won't sit more than 10-15 games if healthy, so there aren't many extra games for Hall to pick up at other positions.
  11. I would like to believe that the split at 3rd base would be more like this: Hall 100% vs lefties and 50% vs righties Branyan 50% vs righties Branyan has done nothing IMO to earn a the bulk of starts vs righties. His ops looks good, I'll give you that. But, every time he has a hang nail, he can't play. Plus, he still strikes out way too much, even vs righties (36.3 percent of the time vs righties, something like 65 percent vs lefties). If Billy Hall is going to get 400-500 ABs, the bulk of those are going to come as a 3rd baseman. He's going to need around 100 starts at 3rd (and another 10-15 each at SS and 2B). And he's earned the right to play a good share vs righties with his .800 ops, .279 avg, and 14 of his 17 HRs coming vs righties.
  12. To say this is the start of a very important series is a huge understatement. Chris Carpenter comes in as (probably) the front-runner for the NL Cy Young Award. Carpenter carries a 21-4 record and a stellar 2.42 ERA. Chris Capuano comes in with a shot at a 20-win season. He currently carries a 17-10 record with a solid 3.64 ERA. Can the Brewers start the series on the right foot? Can they ultimately take 2-of-3 (or better) vs the Cardinals and put themselves in good position for their run at a .500 record. The Cardinals come in with the best record in the league at 96-58, while the Brewers are 75-77. The game is televised on FSN.
  13. Two of the best things in the world rolled into one ball of fun: 1. Cubs Lose 2. Brewers Win 3. Brewers move ahead of Cubs in standings Beat up on Prior on Wednesday!
  14. How many outs is Rickie going to make on the base paths tonight?
  15. Did some analyst actually say that Brady Clark is the best centerfielder in the National League and deserves a Gold Glove? That guy needs to seek professional help. He obviously has not seen the Brewers play too many times. Clark is an above average OF, IMO. But, he's far from good and can't even sniff great.
  16. Its a game day. Its the Chicago Cubs tonight. Its a great day to be alive.
  17. I bet no one would have the balls to try and defend Clark's base stealing abilites anymore I have never once defended his base stealing "abilities" or lack thereof, but it was the right move to try to get into scoring position. Didn't work though.
  18. Lyle has crushed Claussen in the past but it's only over 13 AB. Not much of a sample size to draw conclusions from. Maybe not, but 9-for-13 with 4 HRs cannot be ignored. And I'm sure Claussen is aware of this as well. In even smaller sample sizes, Helms (5-for-8, HR) and Clark (4-for-7) have both had success. The rest of the team has more or less "struggled" in their few ABs vs the lefty. On the flip side, Adam Dunn (6-for-12, 2 HR) has the most success vs Ohka. In very limited ABs, Javier Valentin is 3-for-6 and Wily Mo Pena is 2-for-6 with a HR.
  19. This "pull everything" approach by JJ sure is working. Errr not.
  20. I just picture Branyan walking past Yost in the dugout just before the game: I picture it a little different... Branyan: Skip, I can't go. Yost: AGAIN!?!? Branyan: Nope. Lower back is tight. Yost: You're not a battler, you over-rated piece of garbage!
  21. Carlos.. nice to have you back big man.
