  1. I wonder if he is a Juan Pierre type that people have been clamoring for. How does a 6.6 60 yd time stack up against other players? The lower 6.4 sec seems really good based on the limited info I found.
  2. I think our 'big acquisition' that Attanasio refered to is probably going to come via trade (like Carlos Lee) rather than free agency That's by far the most logical conclusion to draw, IMO. If we're talking about a guy we get excited about the day we acquire him, he will have to come via trade. There are only a couple big time guys this winter, and all of them are undoubtedly going to be priced out of the Brewers' budget. Thus, you won't see a "name" player come via free agency. Of course, we could make a "big acquisition" that flies under the radar, like when the Rangers inked Gary Matthews Jr and he went way beyond expectations.
  3. Who developed Boof Bonsor and Francisco Liriano, SF or Minn? Both, in my opinion. I think a better term is "drafted and developed", because lots of guys are traded. Part of the credit goes to the team who scouted and drafted/signed him, and the rest goes to the team who he was with through the rest of the minors. I think you have a better case claiming to have developed a guy who you acquired when he was in the low minors than a guy who you traded for when he was already in AAA.
  4. Molitor if you don't like the truth, or my posts do everyone a favor and don't reply. I simply stated we bring that OF back we'll lose 90 games, am I wrong? I like how your posts are always "the truth". The same team will almost certainly be better next year, as young guys mature and the bullpen hopefully stays healthy and won't have Turnbow destroying games. Is the OF great? No, but fortunately, those guys aren't pitching, nor are OF's the only guys in the lineup.
  5. but we only have a few roster spots to fill each year. Few teams have more than 20 spots open each year. It'd work, though, as you'd have more players in higher rounds and essentially "pass" in later rounds by taking guys who you know won't sign. I could see the marlins dumping their first and second round picks on the Yankees just to save cash... I doubt it'd happen, as they could just as easily flip them to low-budget teams who value picks and have a bunch of young talent to deal. I'd bet the A's and Twins would make a lot of trades for picks.
  6. The Rule V this year will likely suck, as anyone who would be a first-time candidate will not be protected by the rule change.
  7. I'd do it, but would be hesitant to throw more than $2M back in their direction. Reed was a great prospect, but that has translated into crappy results. Still, he's just 25 and plays CF. I'd like it a whole lot more if money wasn't changing hands, though, as Jenks could have a monster contract year and still clubbed righties pretty well in a bad season.
  8. Clark doesn't suck, but after a lackluster 2006, I'd say his value is neutral at best, probably slightly negative when you consider his salary.
  9. Markakis is a pretty solid prospect, but I wouldn't come close to giving up Sheets to get him. Though he was just 22, his numbers were pretty much average. You can obviously expect a high probability of continued improvement, but it's not certain enough to give up your best starter for.
  10. He has simply pounded righties lately, and all else being equal I'd take his bat over Gross since he' the more proven player. That said, all else won't be equal, as he'll be paid a lot more, and doesn't play CF. Now, if we didn't have Jenkins, he would be way more attractive, as I'd rather have Jenks as an everyday player, but Dellucci may be able to come pretty close as a platoon guy.
  11. I was thinking of having a troll amnesty day. That could be amusing. That'd be amazing. Caps would be locked all day and all spell-checking devices would be disabled. To really make it special, we would need to go in the night before and start threads such as: "Ginter is a bona fide starter" "Branyan is a quality player" "Prospects are worth more than MLB players" "Carlos Lee vs. Jenkins" "Keep Doug Davis?" "Ben Sheets: ACE?" "We can win without spending lots of money" "Stats mean EVERYTHING" "I heart 3TO" "Don't blame Wynegar!" "De La Rosa will be a #1 starter" "Wes Helms = available" "We need clutch players" and, of course "K's don't matter"
  12. The thing is, we need to find more veteran losers. People who had 1000+ posts at now defunct Brewers forums of the past. That know how to lose, and can impart that losing knowledge on the rest of us. Yeah, we have some vets here, but we need a few more to put us over the top Look at all of the worst sites around the internet. They all have one thing in common, they weren't afraid to go out and sign that marquee loser, even if they had to overpay for him. I mean, that Anime discussion board got that one guy who was convicted possession of child pornography. Sure, they had to pay a lot to get him, but I don't exactly think they'll be complaining about that move when you consider where he has helped them go. Do you see the Final Fantasy chat room complaining about how much they spent to get that guy with five restraining orders against him and a mountain of unpaid child support? I don't think so. You guys all have such a non-defeatist attitude from previous regimes. Well, I'm here to tell you that this is a new age, and we have a lot of new energy pumped into losing now. New life has been breathed into the organization and it's time to suck. I'm going to do my part now by going and alphabetizing my thimble collection. I hope the rest of you are willing to take the call and step it up.
  13. I think that was NickNoogybower, who is immortalized in the Woah Solvdd forum. That dude went through like 4 screen names, and I seem to remember it being him under one of those other names.
  14. I've got a fever, and the only prescription is MORE CAPS LOCK!!!! Maybe some unnecessary punctuation as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. HUH? Are you just presenting a mold for the player we should target and asking who best fits this need?
  16. He's baaaaa-aack! This can be the work of none other than that WOAH SOLVDD kid, or possibly Buddy.
  17. He plays in the top hitters park in baseball. In his two previous years at Citizen's Bank, his splits were pretty big, but this year he actually had a .900 OPS on the road vs .880 at home.
  18. Juan Pierre would be a really great #8 hitter on a solid NL club. That'd probably be really good for him, since the speed would be useful in moving over on bunts laid down by pitchers. Plus, he could steal with less of a detriment, since it doesn't usually matter if a pitcher takes an extra strike or not - he's gonna K anyway.
  19. My god, ask any baseball player if they'd rather hit with a Pierre on base or not and I'd bet atleast 80% would want to bat with the "threat on base". Most people would also tell you they'd rather not walk under a ladder or see the bride on the day of the wedding, it doesn't mean it makes them worse off though.
  20. Please, somebody just end this series. This has been the most unexciting, uninspiring playoff series I've seen in ages.
  21. The Devilrays are DESPERATE for a SS and Closer. Your not going to find one on the market as talented or with the high upside of JJ Hardy. Hardy would actully be a leader in that clubhouse I think. Upton may have had a bit of a down year this season, but at least he stayed healthy again unlike Hardy. I'm sure many will disagree, but I'd still take Upton over Hardy.
  22. In 2006, he hit a lousy .222/.376/.400 with RISP. There's no doubt that is why they are down on him now. I hope they're dumb enough to let that lead them to trade him at a big discount. As was already noted, he absolutely dominated in that situation last year. Also, in 2006 he still hit better with runners on than with the bases empty. Over his career, his numbers are better with runners on, RISP, RISP 2 out, and bases loaded than when the bases are empty. Like lots of other guys, (Jenkins) his situational stats look really clutch one year and really bad the next, that's the ebb and flow of situational stats from limited samples.
  23. Too many other big fish for Chicago to focus on (A-Rod, Soriano, Schmidt). My guess is that carlos will not sign with them because they will be focusing on other players first. I think you nailed it, I'd look for the Cubs to go after the "sexy" free agents first. As long as one of them is still available, I think they'll ignore Lee. Houston, meanwhile, is gonna have some serious cash to spend. Jeff Bagwell is listed by baseball reference as the NL's highest paid player this season at $19,369,019. Pettitte made $17.5M, and Clemens raked in $12,632,307. All three of them are off the books this winter and the 'stros will have money to blow.
  24. He's an idiot if he doesn't elect free agency. He would become the number 1 positon free agent. A 28 year old infielder coming off three consecutive 900+ OPS seasons? He would actually be worth going after in free agency. While he's due a lot of money this year, it's only for one year. Thus, I agree that he'd be smart to go out and get that 5 year mega deal that may entail a pay cut in 2007, but guarantee a buttload in subsequent years.
  25. I'm about 5% likely to make it. I'd love to go if I'm able to make an extended trip to Eau Claire this summer, but I have a thesis to work on that may not be done by June. Plus, the people I usually stay with in Milwaukee have a new place without an extra bedroom.
