  1. I`m typing this from my Wii, which sounds cool, but actually sucks
  2. Stupid Cubs...spending money and signing players. What are they thinking? It's not signing players that's a problem, it's signing players who are inferior to your current option(s). I'd love to see a new stud corner OF brought in, but not someone inferior to Jenkins because the point of free agency is to get better, not to spend more money.
  3. They're always gonna say they don't know because they don't want to give someone a figure and then the truck crashes on the way there and everyone gets irate and freaks out because "they were lied to". It seems pretty concrete that shipments WILL be there Sunday at major outlets. Based on everything I have read, however, Best Buy is the best place to go, because their shipments have tended to be consistently large, where some other places sometimes get 5 or 6. I bought mine there and they handled it very smoothly and professionally.
  4. If you have a low WHIP, why do K's matter? If nobody's on base, who cares how a guy makes an out? In that scenario, no there isn't a big difference. However, guys who K a lot of batters typically have better "stuff" and thus don't get hit as hard. It also renders the defense meaningless, which is a bonus when you have a team that may feature several sup-par defenders. Whenever you look at K leaders, you're also generally looking at leaders in the other primary metrics - that's the main reason it matters.
  5. ****Very minor spoiler***** I never baited a hook - just go to the fishing hole near the lake where you can rent lures and a canoe.
  6. id put Yo ahead of Braun only because of Braun's defense. And the fact that Gallardo is a starting pitcher, which makes a prospect more valuable when talent/superiority to peers is equal. It isn't like playing 3B is easier in AA than it is in the Majors...defense is defense, regardless of the level. Balls are hit harder, but you do have more help from better defenders around you. However, is it the case that Braun is only compared to MLB 3B's, or that he considered below his AA or same age counterparts? If he's below MLB studs, then yeah, there's room to grow and whatnot. If he's compared to his peers and MLB players when they were the same age, I think unfavorable evaluations are more concerning. No it makes the Hall move that much more baffling. Hall can played 3B at an average level in the major leagues. I agree. I'd like to have had Braun prove himself capable before Hall is moved to the OF, only to be moved right back a year or less after said move.
  7. Seriously. When we turn it on, the S.O. and I have a little contest to guess which overplayed song will air first: What about McCartney's bowl of tripe? "simply ha-a-a-ving a wonderful Christmas time". People who don't say Wisconsin right. It's not Wesconsin or WisCONsin. It's just Wisconsin. Uggg, that gets me too. In the south, and when I listen to east coast broadcasters it's awful. I swear that the way it's pronounced down here, Texans believe that there's a state called "Consin" and our state is "West Consin". Seriously, there is no E in the name. Texans ask why I care, I then ask what they'd think if I called their state Toxas. Usually they look real mad then they laugh at that and say there's no way anyone would mispronounce the name of the state when it's mentioned over 3,000 times in the bible, constitution, and has the best flag ever. Then there's the broadcast who says "Wisss-CONsin.
  8. If Counsell was not signed or the team thought Hardy can't make it back before a while into the season, and the team had absolutely decided that Hall would never leave the outfield, Barmes could be a mediocre pickup as a young utility guy/project. As the roster stands, I'll take my chances on picking up a garbageman in the RARE event that both Hardy and Counsell go down AND Hall isn't moved back to fill in.
  9. If you have HD, most people suggest buying the component cables - I think they run for about $30-40 and are supposed to considerably enhance your video quality if and only if you're running HD. You literally don't need to buy anything extra. It comes with a remote (and infamous strap), nunchuk attachment, sensor bar, a pair of AA batteries for the remote, vertical stand, RCA cables, and the Wiisports game. The only things you may wanna buy are batteries, SD card, and gamecube controllers to rock out VC games.
  10. I finally did it. Some 50 hours in, I beat Zelda. The final boss fight is frickin' awesome - best time I've ever wasted. Any hints on getting one of these? I hate calling everyday, as I think they are starting to know me and get annoyed. Are there certain days that these come out in certain stores? Look at the Wiiseeker that's linked in my previous post. The next shipment is supposed to be one week from today (17th).
  11. I really don't forsee needing a memory card unless you do VC stuff, mess with the pictures, or play seasons in sports game. I laughed when I saw Zelda only took up 1 block. You get over 2100 blocks with the harddrive. Yep, game saves are pretty small. However, if you're downloading a bunch of N64 games and such, you'll benefit from the memory card. VC works like I understand itunes works. You download games and once you've paid, you can delete them from the console and go back and re-download it at any time without paying again. You essentially own the rights to download that game unlimited times, but only to the same Wii console. If you have lots of memory, though, you don't have to go back and download a bunch of times - you just store them on SD and move files back and forth between SD and system memory. I'm also not sure, as you mentioned, how much space a sports game will take up. One thing to note is at present, you cannot save a game directly to SD while playing - you have to save it to the system and can then transfer the file to SD once you've exited to the Wii menu. I'd hope future firmware updates will give you the option to save and load directly to/from either memory type.
  12. So the memory card is the same type I use in my camera, very cool. I do plan on getting Wii, is the price above good enough that I should purchase it now? Opinions? Yep, it has to be SD, not the mini or micro or any other type of memory cards. Also, I've been looking since I bought my Wii and for a name brand card, that's about as good as you're gonna find without a rebate, so you may as well get one if you know for certain you're getting a Wii and don't have a memory card to use in it. Still, you do not "need" a memory card until you download a lot of Virtual Console games and stuff, so it's by no means something you need out of the box. Edit-passwird.com has a link to a 2GB Kingston for $9.95, but it's actually like $35 with a $25 rebate, if you're willing to go through the hassle. I'd say the most important related purchase you MUST make is a set of 4 AA Nimh rechargeable batteries with a charger. Otherwise you'll end up with a system you can't play because the remote is dead. Whoops, sorry. The deal mentioned above is pretty good. I think I was able to get a 4GB card for about $50 off eBay, so while it's a good deal, I think it's pretty on par. One thing to note is that Nintendo has said many memory card above 2GB will not work - I don't know the technical reason, but that's part of why I went 2GB - also because that's a butt-load of memory for the Wii considering it's a fourfold increase over the memory out of the box (512MB). If you don't download a ton of VC games, a gig or two should suit you very well. Finally, I know a lot of people are still searching hard for a system, so the latest update is that the next shipment is set for next Sunday, the 17th. There's a website, Wii Seeker that is reported to be the best and most accurate locater on the net.
  13. For anyone who has not yet picked up an SD card for their Wii: Frys.com currently has a 2GB Kingston card for $24.99 - there are no rebates, and free shipping. I scored one about an hour ago.
  14. The benefit of acquiring Lieber is that if you're getting a marginal starter to bridge the gap, you want him for only a year or two instead of being stuck with him for 5 years. Lieber is a good guy to come in for a year until Yo develops and you know just what you've got on your hands in CV and Vargas.
  15. So, my mom has no idea what to get my for christmas and I don't know what to tell her. The only idea I have thus far is another Wii game. Right now, I just have Zelda, which dominates, but should have it beaten within a week or so. Thus, I'm calling on brewerfan to help me pick my christmas gift. What other games to Wii owners have that are awesome? Right now, I'm looking at Second Opinion or COD3. Has anyone played Second Opinion? The reviews are pretty good, but I don't have any friends that have it, so I have nothing but internet reviews to base my decision on.
  16. I think this would be a great pickup for Pittsburgh. Gonzalez is a very good reliever, but they need building blocks, and a great reliever is a piece I've always thought of as something you add when you begin to contend. This trade would make them better in every game, not just the rare ones when they have a lead late. To build a team you need to start with a solid rotation and a couple of great young bats. Laroche was better last year than any season Carlos Lee or Soriano have put up, plus he's just hitting arby.
  17. Advocacy groups lose all credibility when they go too far and make untrue claims. What happened to the one based on common sense that you started with? You can just say "it's wrong - think about it, especially if you're a member of a faith that says it's wrong". Kinda like protesting animal cruelty and lying about what certain companies do to animals. All you really need to say is that animals feel pain and it's disgusting to abuse them for minimal human gain. There, I bought your argument and you didn't lose all credibility in my eyes.
  18. We learned last year that you can never have enough SPing, and having Villanueva as a long reliever/spot starter/injury fill-in would be a great luxury. If related moves are made and we either get rid of another SP or acquire a solid OF (Baldelli), this would then become a great trade, since we'd either need the depth or Jenkins would be far less important to the team. If we otherwise stand pat, I would be able to live with the move, but would by no means be jumping around the living room. Like you said, it'd be a luxury, and it's hard for losing teams to rationalize having luxuries.
  19. The Brewers' outfielder most in demand is Kevin Mench; about eight teams have expressed trade interest. They're either basing their assessments off of track record rather than a small sample in Milwaukee, or they're hoping his time here was awful enough to prompt Milwaukee to give him away for a Noochie Varner.
  20. It'd leave the pitching staff thin, and maybe force a rush of Gallardo or Jackson. However, with his ability and reasonable contract, I'd do that deal so frickin' fast it ain't funny. A 25 year-old CF with an .872 OPS for a couple of bullpen arms and an unproven starter? Yeah, I make that move, as it probably fills a bigger void than it creates. You can then trade Mench, Koskie, Graffy, or someone and maybe get a couple Aquino types to fill out the pen.
  21. It's a strange world we live in where Benson's salary seems decent. A trade involving he and Jenks would actually be a swap of players with positive value. I don't know that we really need him, as we have 5 starters and he doesn't really excite me much more than the bottom of our rotation - except he's more predictable. Anna Benson is a broke-down hussy.
  22. Thing is, for the kind of money that we'd be paying Manny, we should be able to demand the perfect player, but Manny's got his defensive and personality deficiencies. If we're talking trade for a big-time player, I'd sure rather have someone like ARod, who's really not missing anything. You could get a good financial deal through the trade route, but there is NOBODY, dollar-for-dollar, that has signed this year that's the value Ramirez is. He's barely paid more than Soriano or Lee, and signed for a shorter time period while being a far better hitter than either can dream of being. I also take A-Rod, because I'm pretty sure he'd still play a superb SS, which makes him more valuable.
  23. Anyone have any idea how many Wii's are being shipped for this Friday? Wal Mart is supposed to have a decent quantity on the 6th (Wed.) They go on sale at 8 am. EB Games is supposed to have some on the 8th. Target, Toys R Us, and Best Buy are reported to be getting them on Sunday the 10th. FYI, I bought mine on 26th at Best Buy and only had to get there 2 hours before open.
  24. also he said that it was multiple teams and that it involves more than 1 superstar. Manny for Delgado? They have Youkilis, but he's no Delgado. The Dodgers are interested, perhaps Manny for Furcal and a prospect?
  25. How much is Manny worth now? Seriously, dude is owed an average of $18.5M over the next two years with two more $20M options after that. The max value is thus $77M over 4 years. You can get a player WAY better than Soriano for a half million more and for 6 years less or less than a million more than Lee and 4 years less. I'd gladly give up that half million or so and a top prospect if I had to choose between that and signing Soriano or Lee. Plus, if the market continues to spiral out of control, you have those two option years, which suddenly seem to be below market value.
