  1. I like how gameday put it "Geoff Jenkins left the game due to an injured head"
  2. Well, that 30 seconds is just a tick less than what it takes to download firefox, which has given me no problems thus far.
  3. Mine loaded ridiculously slow at work last week, where I use IE. At home and with firefox, though, I have no problems.
  4. Of course, the defensive spectrum is just a guideline anyway. I agree. Even if the difficulty of playing the positions is equal, though, 2B has still historically been a position that has provided less offense.
  5. How about the fact that comparing the game in 2006 to the game in 1990 is foolish? Is comparing 2004 and 2006 foolish as well? The gap closed last year and has remained that way this year. That disparate offensive production has historically come from the two positions hasn't changed. I'll take the nearly 18 years before 2005 as a better indicator than the last 14 months. One year means nothing more than a couple guys having flukes or going down to injury.
  6. That speed is also valuable in covering alot of ground in the OF, so it's hard to say what's better or worse. Watching Griffey let balls bloop in front of him, I wonder if his offense makes up for it sometimes. In a lot of cases that's true, but there are guys like Jim Edmonds that don't have elite speed but still make plays while there are guys like Alex Sanchez who everyone can see is a butcher, but kept getting chances because he can fly. Bernie Williams lost speed as he got older but until last year he still made the plays he needed to while putting up good offensive numbers - despite never being a good base stealer. I guess my gripe is that it seems that too often, teams base decisions on raw speed with guys like Corey Patterson, who has sucked until 100 AB's this year. How much can his defense really be an upgrade over a guy who's a step slower but has a .100 advantage in OPS? I don't even think Andruw Jones' defense can justify the .602 OPS Patterson posted last year. Joey Gathright has a career OPS of .606, but hey, dude can fly.
  7. The defensive spectrum can cause dyslexia. Bill James set it up this way: Yeah, it seems a lot of people switch it around from hardest to easiest. Many of the sites I found that presented OPS by position also had the spectrum, and all had it from hardest to easiest, but you're right, that is how James had it set up.
  8. 2B is further left on the defensive spectrum. The only difference is that there are more good players at 2B with more studs (Griffey, Edmonds, etc) at CF. That's why I want him at second, as he could put up among the best numbers in the league at that position, while he couldn't in CF. CF offense = 2B offense. There is no difference between the two. A link I found stated that CF OPS from 1987-2002 was .752 while it was .721 for 2Bs. In 2003, it was .757 vs .736. This gap is bigger than the difference between 2B and C. I personally think CF numbers are brought down by dumb management who emphasizes speedy slap hitters that steal bases, and not simply by how hard the position is. CFers seem to be forced to fit the lead-off hitter mold. I'd suggest that's why you see a couple stud players and a bunch of clowns. I'd take Vernon Wells, who has never stolen more than 9 bases in a season, over Carl Lewis or Michael Johnson in their primes in CF. There has to be quite a few guys like Brady Clark out there who could move from corner to center and not look bad.
  9. "vestido de seda" because "de" is of and "seda" is silk. You would pronounce it correctly as it's spelled out, though.
  10. So are you willing to give up JJ's glove for Billy's bat when we already do that at 2 other infield positions? If Hall displaces any middle infielder, it's gonna be Weeks, as Hall isn't a great SS, but is a decent 2B, plus Weeks is obviously the most likely infielder to need a change of position. Hall could still play center field if Weeks steps up his D. Hall's offense would still be good enough at that position (though it'd be better at 2nd or SS). We have one more year of Clark, Koskie, and Jenkins, plus Lee will be gone this fall/winter. Thus far, we have Hall, Braun, Hart, and Cruz to fill those spots. Hall will find a home if he keeps hitting.
  11. I don't know if this has been brought up elsewhere, but Nelson Cruz is listed as having a .291 avg with a .112 OBP for an OPS of .666 while Hart has a .320 avg with a .085 OBP Edit: looks like ALL minor league OBPs are way low.
  12. The bats used in Sundays game were not Pink to honor mother's day. Rather, MLB ran out of bats and Bill Hall donated a collection of bloody bats he had in his trunk, which were so stained they could only be bleached to a pinkish color.
  13. I think it was a good idea, but apparently others here have other ideas.....honestly, why mock it?. Because we fear change.
  14. Bill Hall was the original casting choice for Samuel L. Jackson's role in "Snakes on a Plane", until producers realized that the idea of Hall actually struggling to combat the snakes was too farfetched. He was also supposed to play Mace Windu, until the special effects people sued after being laid off because Hall can actually use the force, rendering special effects unnecessary.
  15. ...and the Brewers once again make a scrub pitcher look dominant. No runs vs. Park is an absolute embarassment.
  16. - Bill Hall can throw a 97 mph slider...with his foot. - Bud Selig fought to keep Bill Hall out of the WBC, saying "we're trying to build bridges between nations, not crush them 500 feet to dead center". - Bill Hall turned down a CIA offer of $5 billion to capture Osama Bin Laden, saying that anyone who throws less than 95 is too easy to take out. -Bill Hall once hit a Nobel Prize winning doctor with his bat. That doctor is Ronnie Woo-Woo. -Bill Hall considers chin music to be an aphrodisiac. -Pitchers don't walk Bill Hall because of baseball strategy, they do it out of fear for what he'll do if they make him run. -Doug Melvin didn't shave his moustache, he lost it when he bet Bill Hall he couldn't jump and touch Miller Park's roof. -Wilt Chamberlain's fatal heart attack was caused by the revelation of how many women Bill Hall has been with. -"The Mercy Rule" has been renamed "The Bill Hall Rule". -Bill Hall once played 11 positions in the same game. -The knuckle ball only occurs because the ball gets nervous about Bill Hall. -Bill Hall hit a 600 foot homer for show and tell in kindergarten. -Bill Hall's fastball has been recorded at 105 mph...2 seconds after it touches the catcher's mitt. -Barry Bonds doesn't wear body armor to protect himself from pitches, he wears it to protect himself from Bill Hall. -Bill Hall once hit a ball of Dennis Eckersley so hard that his mullet fainted. -Ben Sheets did not stop shaving, he stopped letting Bill Hall touch his face. -Steve Sparks did not try to tear a phonebook, he tried arm wrestling Bill Hall. -Russell Branyan wears the shades out of fear for what would happen if he looked directly at Bill Hall. -Julio Franco is only able to keep playing because Bill Hall likes talking to him at first. -The MLBPA has recently renamed itself "friends of Bill Hall". -Bill Hall hit a ball so hard off the Coke Bottle at Pac Bell that it turned into Crystal Pepsi. -The Cincinnati Reds didn't build the Great American Ballpark because they wanted a new stadium, they had to build it because Bill Hall got mad and destroyed Riverfront Stadium after striking out. -Bill Hall was told he couldn't join myspace because the site will crash once someones "friends" total reaches 10 Billion. -When Bill Hall misbehaves, the commisioners' office is suspended for 15 games. -The Baseball Hall of Fame is changing it's name to "Bill Hall's Scrap Book", the Rock n Roll Hall of fame plans to follow suit in 2007.
  17. There are some pretty good ones here. I think Bill Hall deserves his own facts site. -Bill Hall doesn't learn new positions, he simply stands in a new place and the ball makes itself easy to catch out of respect. -Bill Hall doesn't steal bases, he liberates them. -No matter how many times you tell yourself "I'm a white guy and he's younger than me", Bill Hall is still your father. -Bill Hall's bat is not made out of wood, but out of Nerf because otherwise it wouldn't be fair. -DH's are only allowed to live because Bill Hall's girlfriend told him to be more merciful. -There was no steroids scandal in baseball, merely a lot of players who shook hands with Bill Hall. -Most baseball cleats have 6 to 9 spikes, Bill Hall's have 32, all of which are venomous. -Bill Hall's bed is covered in astroturf. -Bill Hall doesn't believe in the American League. -Bill Hall's glove isn't made out of cow leather, it's made out of the skin of the minotaur, which he killed when he was 6. -Lisa Dergan and Scott Podsednik only hooked up after Bill Hall told him "you can have one of my ugly ones". -When Bill Hall doesn't feel like hitting a homer, he simply picks up a ball and throws it into left-field, striking Bernie Brewers in the head with enough force to cause him to tumble down the slide. -Bill Hall's offseason training consists of a fight against a pride of lions with 18-inch bayonnets attached to their head while wearing a straightjacket. PETA labels it "senseless killing". -Bill Hall can triple your career ERA in one AB. -Bill Hall has a VORP of "Holy %&*^!" -Bill Hall blows bubbles with Skoal Mint. -Bill Hall can steal first base. -Bill Hall once hit a 5-run homer. -Bill Hall lets Mark Attanasio "play boss".
  18. So could I then be "I love Redd Sheets", or is that for another forum entirely? Yes, on AmericanPsychoFan.net.
  19. May I ask why a poster is allowed/can have multiple screen names? EZboard allows it, that way you can post as different names in different forums. You could thus be "I Love Sheets" here and "I Love Redd" on a Bucks board. But if someone actually uses multiple names here, I'd get a little suspicious. With the approval process Brian has now, I'd guess that he probably wouldn't let it fly without an explanation.
  20. I dig the use of multiple screennames, that there's professional trolling. Seriously, I can't think of a single post that has merited banishment as much as the one that loser made today. It wasn't a heat of the moment personal vendetta thing or the result of being provoked by another member. Nope, dude just started a thread telling everyone that Sheets has a torn rotator cuff.
  21. Is it because they aren't going to pick as high in the first round? Is it because the big-league Brewers are more interesting (in that you followed the draft more by default)? Those are certainly the factors for me. 1) I typically don't know anything about players outside of the top 5, maybe 10 prospects. Even Rogers was someone I hadn't heard of. 2) The draft has always been about "the future". Man, we're gonna be better someday, we won't always suck! That guy is gonna be our savior! Well, that someday is finally upon us, so I guess I've been able to focus on being good now instead of maybe being good someday.
  22. Why doesn't he just write a blog? He can write whatever crap he wants, and no one will read it...and I speak from experience. I did just that after Brewerfan did away with political discourse. The scary thing is, sometimes I get 15 hits a day, which seems like way more than it deserves.
  23. Intermittent reinforcement makes a behavior more resistant to extinction than reinforcing every response. Thus, an occasional response to trolling is more poweful than attending to every stupid comment.
  24. Brian, I got your back homie. If people want a site where they can discuss the Brewers with absolutely no censorship and permission for all posts and ideas to be shared, they can start their own. That's what EZBoard is for.
