  1. Vizcaino does not have any options left does he? Thats how we got him from Texas I thought. Yeah, we got him after he bounced from Oak to Tex , then to us all within a week, someone previously said that Oakland used up his options from 99-01 Maybe Q should request to have Sammy's bat checked for cork? Nah, it's the pitching. But Sammy's body is likely still corked, but it's unlikely his juiced-up arms will split open so we can see. Add the fact that Ruby's belly is corked, and well...520 ft.
  2. Compared to the drivel that Wellstone's plane was shot down, this is like nuclear physics. That's why the off topic forum is named as such, because it's a place where incoherent drivel on obscure topics is acceptable.
  3. I think the most interesting thing we found out Saturday is that Anthony prefers to be called Tony... Tony Gwynn, Jr. I had heard him called that before but never in print - I'm not sure if it's a recent change or if that's what he's been called all along. I read an article right after he was drafted that briefly discussed this. It seems to me like he may have just wanted to make it as his own man, not relying on his dad's name to gain recognition. Kinda like Daryl Strawberry Jr. (who plays baseketball) going by D.J. As far as I know, he just made the switch to "Tony" now that he's become a professional. But if he hits anything like his dad, I'll call him whatever he wants us to call him.

  5. Yep, a bonafide genius. http://216.40.249.192/s/contrib/blackeye/lol.gif
  6. Rivas' defense in the third was just sick. I forgot what a 2B with good D looked like.
  7. I bet he bats around .360 in 2009. No, that'll be 2008, in 2009 he'll bat .341, don't you know anything?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif My tarot cards said he'll be devoured by the three headed falcon within 4 years, so the discussion is pointless. This is ridiculous, I'm done reading what some guy's magic 8-ball lays out for the next 20 years of a guy's life.
  8. OK guys, how bout we make a real prediction. Glendon Rusch: Next week: get's bombed at AAA, next month: gets released next year: starts a store that sells only left-handed products like Ned Flanders on the Simpsons. Bet 5 bucks my prediction's more accurate than this dude'shttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  9. With Gwynn heading to Beloit, what's to become of Steve Moss? Will he be promoted or shifted? Tonight they made it sound as if Gwynn is expected to quickly be moved to A+ if he performs at the A level. So he might not be there long enough for it to really cause a problem. If that's the case, I'd guess Moss will be shifted temporarily.
  10. Bought my first baseball cap since I was 5 at the ball park today. Does 7 5/8's size and still tight mean I am bucket head? yeah, as long as it isn't an undersized 7 5/8, that would qualify you as a buckethead, as that's the size Daron and Bill both wear. I myself can barely squeeze into a hat of that size unless I just got a hair cut. Usually, I have to order 7 3/4 hats off the internet, my head has been this big since I was 13, of course I was 6'1"/200, but my friends would playfully try my hat on over theirs and laugh when it still flopped around. When I transferred to a fairly small high school my senior year, they had to special order a football helmet that would fit my gargantuan noggin. Good to see there are others here who have craniums as large as mine.
  11. I'm thinking the unthinkable.... throw the kid in the rotation. If he gets hit hard, move him back to relief. How sweet would it be if Matt Ford never had to see the minors again? Everyone's harping about how the guy needs to spend another season in the minors before he sees the rotation. Given that the Brewers are a minor league team and he's playing for them this year, can we put him in the rotation next year?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Everyone says they don't want to hurry him, or put too much pressure on him. But could there be a situation with less pressure than playing on a joke of a team? "Oh no, I lost a game and now we won't make the playoffs, my confidence is crushed forever! Oh, nevermind."
  12. I agree with Muddy that respect for Melvin and Yost will drop like Enron stocks if this guy sees another start. I'm sure Sexson will get hit at some point tonight. He seems to be a favorite target for retaliation. Should be interesting! It's too bad Glendon couldn't have made it to the plate with St. Louis retaliating against him. A nice bean ball to the head that put him on the DL would force the crew to try somebody else. Bring up Joe Roa NOW! Yeah, he looked like crap at AAA the other night, but what's the worst he can do: 1-11 in his first 12 decisions with a ridiculous ERA? No one could be worse than Rusch right now, gimme Burba, Coco or Roa, at least it would take a few weeks before we all hated them.
  13. Looks like a good move. He'll either solidify the Indy staff a little, or be a slight upgrade over Rusch. His numbers are bad this year, but still better than Glendon's. I can't recall any injury history though, anybody have this guy's DL record?
  14. Thanks for the clarification on the DFE rules guys, I was unaware of that as I've only become interested in the draft beyond round 1 or 2 (where picks aren't likely to be DFE guys)in the last year, reading threads in this forum has helped a lot. So many rules, so little time to commit them all to memory.
  15. At least throwing the 47th pick at him with the chance of a nice return was a good move, too bad he won't be in the organization since I've heard lots of good things. Maybe next year when he jumps up in the draft or as a DFE guy if he struggles in college?
  16. I have to agree whole-heartedly that his HR numbers will not matter if he's a great average hitter. Look at his dad, look at Ichiro, neither have power, but I would take either of them over ANY outfielder we've had aside from Yount. I'm just not concerned with his lack of power, especially if he's a leadoff or #2 hitter. So many people here though Sanchez was god, and he had about as much raw power as Ben Sheets, so what would it matter that Gwynn won't hit 30 HR?
  17. yeah, I think Japan conquered us with that one and Korea conquered us with Mac Suzuki.
  18. Didn't he also go on to say that drafting RHPs if even more unpredictable? I believe he gave a % of starting RHPs in the majors who went before round 10 (or somewhere around there) and those who went later and it was pretty comparable.
  19. Yeah, having Anthony go to SD would likely have been a disaster. While we expect him to be a solid hitter, they would expect him to hit .300+ every year and chase .400 a few times like the old man. Think of what it would have been like if we drafted Yount's kid last year, some of us would already be calling him a failure since he didn't crack the starting lineup at 18. Kind of like what's going to happen to Brian Griese who just signed with the team his dad led for years in Miami, that could get ugly real quick if he doesn't perform when Fiedler falls on his face and Griese comes in after 5 games.
  20. When we draft some people from Kamchatka, it's full-speed ahead to Siam and Australia! We conquered Australia with Lloyd and Nillson.
  21. My memory may be hazy, but other than the fact he "claimed" to have made errors on purpose, i don't recall the Sheff years being bad But AL, that's all it takes to be the most hated player in team history (yes, that includes Hammonds). While he wasn't always horrible, can you think of a player doing anything worse (within reason now) on the field than tanking plays. I mean, Hammonds sucked, but he screwed up because he sucked, which is far more acceptable than purposely screwing your team over. All that separated Sheffield from the Chicago Black Sox it that he didn't get paid to tank games, and all of those guys were banished for life. Though I have cooled down since he said that, I thought he should have faced the same fate at the time.
  22. The Indians had a few ambidextrous pithcers way back when. Cal McLish is the one that stands out to me (think Early Wynn was another). Though he didn't throw both ways in a pro game, he was well-known for having the ability to do so.
  23. I really don't care which one of the two we draft, since it seems like both could be great players, I do, however, hope that Melvin keeps in mind that this team will have a lot of talent in two years and will try to draft a player who can hopefully add to that prospect laden 2005-2006 team. That said, I hope we don't take Young because he's a high schooler and won't be ready in time. But if Loewen is a close as you say he is, maybe drafting him would be just as good as taking Weeks, you and the scouts have seen them play and I haven't so I won't be disappointed either way.
  24. I still think they're a better team than we are, they've just been bit by the injury bug. Nady is coming on big, and their pitching has to get better than this. Thus, I think they'll end up with the better record. I too will never root for the Crew to lose, but I'd rather see us be the worst in the league by 1 game and draft #1 than be one game better than the Pads and be able to say that atleast someone else was worse.
  25. Tonight Jim Powell discussed the draft and commented on the circulating rumor that the D-Rays are leaning heavily toward Young. If that's the case, I think we have to go with Weeks over Loewen simply because I think a team struggling as bad as the Brewers need to go for what seems to be more of a sure thing over a prospect with more upside, but a greater possibility of being a bust. Weeks is a college player, and though I haven't seen him play, scouts and experts seem to consider him to be a highly polished player who may be ready for major league action as soon as next september, which would mean that he would be coming up in '05 with the rest of our big prospects. This team is building itself up to be ready to contend in 2005, not 2007 or 2008, and that's why Weeks makes more sense than Loewen who's labeled as a long-term project.
