  1. I've mentioned this before, but man does Weeks make things happen! He goes hitless, but still drives in a run, steals a base, and scores. Shows why we need to look beyond batting average.
  2. Massbrew (or anyone else following the AFL closely), do you know Rickie's current OBP? While his batting average has been impressive, he seems to be getting on base multiple times every game.
  3. Rickie's walks have left me impressed with his discipline thus far. He didn't have a hit, yet walked twice and scored both times, that shows a lot of maturity for an A-baller, and should be an encouraging sign for us fans. And what's wrong with Nelson? Is that injury still nagging him or is this just a nasty cold streak?
  4. David mocks foamboy.....foamboy is no insider... foamboy... foamboy... Good lord, more 3rd-person, call the doctor, we have another case of Rickey-itis (which Brian refers to as megalomania).
  5. and frankly, I will be upset if they trade him... I'll only be upset if they trade him without making a legit attempt at re-signing him. As you mentioned, Richie's numbers rank among the league's elite aka guys the Brewers don't have the money to sign. Becoming such an offensive weapon may have put Sexson out of reach for the Brewers. I'd be all for bringing him back as he's my favorite Brewer since Yount, but can this team afford a "superstar"? At this point, re-signing Sexson may be about as difficult as signing Vlad, something nearly everyone here has labelled a pipe dream.
  6. He's good for 3 more wins EVERY 2 WEEKS, than if they didn't have him in the lineup. WOW. What would that equate to, a VORP of roughly 325?
  7. Even though Hall plays a position that the organization is seemingly set with, it still makes the most sense to leave him there instead of putting him in the OF where his numbers would be sub-par. Hardy and Weeks will not be in the bigs next year, so why not keep Hall as a middle IF? If he puts up the offensive numbers some feel he's capable of, then we can simply trade him for a need once Hardy and Weeks are ready, as it seems he'd have far more value as a mediocre fielding middle IF with good offense than an average fielding OF with mediocre offense.
  8. Well, Miss Wisconsin finished third tonight, but someone's going to have to tell me how she beat out Miss Beloit to represent your fine state. My wife subjected me to that painful pageant tonight, I couldn't believe how incredibly un-sexy half of those girls were. There were maybe a couple that were better looking than girls you could find walking around Wal Mart. I dunno, maybe I just can't find girls attractive if they look like John Elway. http://www.horseandstable.co.za/articles/images/gnnews/teeth.jpg.
  9. Burnitz can still do that - he's still good for 35 homers and 95-100 RBI a year, And Jose Canseco could still put up MVP-caliber numbers, if only the man weren't holding him down. The thought of Burnitz putting up those numbers is about as ridiculous as when Cory Feldman claimed he has the ability to win a ton of Oscars, and just needed another chance. Burnitz at this stage is VDW with more strikeouts, lower OBP and a few more homers with a better arm, nothing more.
  10. Guess who drives my anti-Cardinal feelings And may we not forget about deep-rooted hatred for this bum... http://www.baseball-almanac.com/quotes/andujar.jpg
  11. Well, except for the fact that Pac Bell plays worse for LH hitters Not for all-or-nothing Kieschnick who'll either strike out or hit a towering flyball. Brooks was made for stadiums with short distances to the RF wall.
  12. Since we are playing in Pac Bell Park, and it has a VERY short right field, should Brooks be playing in left field for this series? I think with that small area in right, and Brooks' arm that he'd be a much better fit in right than left. But yeah, that short porch makes it tempting to give Brooks a few ABs (as the primary PH) at least.
  13. The state of Wisconsin fan base is a total joke. Here we draw more interest in a Packer pre-season game than a Brewer regular season game. The media should also be to blame for completely ignoring this whole matter. That's just what's naturally going to happen when one of your teams is among the most storied franchises in sports and the other has been crap since most can remember. But the media bias in WI is nothing compared to what we have down here: Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys. They seriously believe that the Cowboys are going to win the superbowl... this year. It's ridiculous since they suck as bad as last year, but have an accomlished coach to lead them to a slightly less embarassing degree of poor play. Or maybe the bias seems greater because I hate the Cowboys and their fans as much as anyone who's expressed anger in this thread hates the Cubs and their pack of traveling losers.
  14. Sutton just informed us that Billy Hall is our starting shortstop for the rest of the season. Melvin met with Clayton and thanked him for playing well, apparently, and then informed him that he was going to be relegated to bench duties. http://www.ataccess.org/resources/fpic/images/tran04.gif
  15. There's little chance anyone beats out Willis for ROY unless his collapse intensifies and he loses the rest of his decisions. He's just been too hyped this season for anyone else to win. His weird delivery and cocked-hat have gotten him Nomo or Valenzuela-like media hype, which will sway voters even if Webb ends up more deserving of the award.
  16. I believe that Brad was moved up to allow him to qualify for the AFL Since only one player with less than 30 days experience at AA or higher can play on the AFL team, I had figured it would be Nelson. With his recent promotion, who takes that spot: will it be Fielder, Gwynn, or Parra? Ideas?
  17. with Dana Eveland plunking a couple of batters to protect the late lead... Ya gotta love minor leaguers who aren't afraid to dust/plunk guys, it shows that they already have the guts they're gonna need if they make it to the big show.
  18. Speaking of Billy Wagner, did anyone else see him on "The Budweiser Hot Seat" on Sports Center today? Man, I thought no could sound dumber than Rickey Henderson, but this guy makes it look easy. These are paraphrased, but... Q: What's your favorite Metallica song other than Enter Sandman (what they play when he comes in from the pen)? A: Smoke on the Water. Q: Other than finishing off that no-hitter, what's been your biggest thrill as a player? A: The birth of my child. There were a few other gems, but I was too astounded by a couple really dumb ones that I didn't remember them.
  19. Doesn't look good for the Brewers. Unless we come back we'll be 5-9 in extra innings. Ughh.
  20. Everyone keeps bringing up Hall's shoddy defense at SS, but if he can put together a few games like this, who cares? I'll take a bunch of errors over a ton of stranded runners. At least we could blame Hall's errors on "growing pains" for awhile, what's Clayton's excuse: his hands are too fast and he battles too hard?
  21. Can we cut Rickie open, look inside, and then use Scotch tape to cover up the fact that we cut him open? Cut open and repaired with tape? Then he'd be Jeffrey Hammonds.
  22. Found it while doing a Google search for "brewerfan.net" Maybe the editor is close friends with Jim Powell, who would be justified in asking for a cut if this was a for profit site. Seriously, this is huge, congrats Colby! It's the attention a site of this quality deserves.
  23. Unfortunately, they become sooooo good that our managemenet refuses to trade them, and then their second year with the club (other than Ray King), they stink... I've often thought the same thing. This should probably be in the trade rumors forum, but does anybody else think we should shop Leo around this winter? Given our relievers' track record, his value may be peaking right now, and he could turn into another Viz, DJ, Leskanic, Henry... his isn't based on any observations of Estrella, just the trend maintained by Brewers relievers since Dan Pleasac held it down for more than one year.
  24. Is there ever a sport that is biased towards small, short people? Wizard of Oz re-enactment tournaments. http://cache.eonline.com/News/Photos/h/hank.angry.dwarf.090501.jpg http://www.hankthedwarf.com/images/hank-beetle.jpg EDIT: sorry, had to add this pic, it's one of the greatest pictures ever.
  25. What happened to the new AL and NL uniforms I thought they were going to wear? They must have realized how stupid that was, now only if they can make the same realization regarding the DH... I wasn't worried about attackers jumping out of the stands, the guys who have done that are filthy white trash that don't have the money (they wasted it on meth and Natrural Ice) or connections to score all star game tickets, so that pretty much SOLVDD that problem.
