  1. I think Pujols is just one of those rare once in a decade or generation type talents like Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey Jr, etc. Would love to hear about him having done steroids or lied about his age, but I doubt we ever will. I think he's just a freak of nature.
  2. It's hard to get into a sport where so many of the players are more concerned with their own individual "brands" than winning their team a championship, too.
  3. I don't get the sense that the Cubs ownership is ready to go on a spending spree either.I don't think they will make any splashy signings this winter, honestly.
  4. My guess is that one of them moves to outfield in the next couple years (I would guess Jeter, at least first), and A-Rod probably ends up as a DH in a couple years.
  5. Isn't Maysonet supposed to be not very good defensively (for a short stop)? Probably nothing to get excited about.
  6. Sounds like the Astros moving to the American League is basically a done deal, according to Jim Bowden.
  7. If Prince signs with the Cubs or Cardinals, he'll be dead to me. I would boo him every time I see him play. Any other team, and I'll still cheer him on. But you don't go to a top rival of your former club and pretend it's not going to affect the fans.
  8. *bump* I thought I would see again if anyone was interested in this figure? The deal I had lined up fell through, due to circumstances outside turborickey's control. It's been a while, but I thought I'd see if anyone else was interested in a trade? This is a pretty cool figure, so I would want more than just one common bobble or something. Let me know. Thanks.
  9. It just goes to show what a good commissioner Bud Selig has been. Ever since the strike way back in '94, baseball has had more labor peace than any major sport, by far.
  10. Honestly, I wouldn't just trade Morgan to trade him. He gave us a pretty darn good season, and will only be 31 next year. I can't see him declining that sharply next season.
  11. Selig's critics seem to always conveniently forget that he was the one who pushed for Miller Park to get built. Without a new stadium, the Brewers would have left for Portland or some place else a decade ago.
  12. Can you elaborate on this for those of us who weren't on the forum way back then?
  13. It would take a blockbuster return to pry away either of them.
  14. Good point. I'm sure if there really was some deal in place, Prince would have played it a lot more coyly. Instead, he seemed rather somber and resigned to the fact that he had probably played his last game in a Brewers uniform.
  15. I really doubt Hart would "balk" at playing 1B. It's getting obvious he is slowing down on defense, and he was actually drafted as a 1B, so it's not unfamiliar territory to him.
  16. Yeah, not to rag on winkdog, but why would this not have been announced by now? Coming out and saying Prince will be back next year would really take the sting out of losing to the Cardinals.
  17. He actually had a pretty decent season, and from what I saw, can play 1B competently (at least as well as Prince). I would be open to it if the Astros wanted nothing special in return and were willing to eat half his salary, like Briggs said.
  18. I don't understand why there isn't more anger amongst the Brewers players. Their reactions and statements to the media were very disappointing. I basically decided for myself that there isn't any point in being angry. I had a blast watching the team this year, and they still got further than any other Brewers team I can ever remember (I was born in 1980). Doug Melvin and this team know that they choked away a great opportunity right at the end. Is there anything that could have been done differently? I'm really not sure. I appreciate your post and your passion, though. I admit that losing to the Cardinals was the worst possible scenario. It's like losing to the neighborhood bully. I hope the Rangers beat them thoroughly, though I won't bother watching the World Series. I'm just too drained emotionally to deal with it. I guess I am still optimistic that the team will remain competitive for the next several years. Our much maligned minor league system has some guys on the cusp of breaking into the majors, and maybe some of them will step up. Another reason for optimism is that the starting rotation isn't the huge question mark it's been in past off-seasons. Melvin is also going to have to get creative this off-season and make some moves. Fortunately, past history has shown he's fully capable of doing that.
  19. Well of course you ask about him. I still don't think he's really available though.
  20. When does a starter ever get pulled after allowing just two base runners? This also ignores that you actually have to give someone in the bullpen time to warm up as well.
  21. Peralta and Fiers can both possibly be factors next season. Melvin has some interesting options to be considering.
  22. I agree. As I said in another thread, I think he'll be given a chance to win his job in spring training. It's not like he'll be eating up a lot of salary or is an aging player.
  23. My guess is that he'll get a shot in spring training to win a job. If he doesn't, he can be non-tendered at that point. I can't imagine that many teams will be interested in trading for him (though weirder things have happened in MLB).
  24. If he wants to sign a team friendly deal, that's one thing...though that probably would have happened by now. This franchise simply can't afford to sign a first baseman to a market contract. It would just hinder things too much going forward.
