  1. Yeah, I really dislike Kotsay and Counsell starting in the same game...but still hard to predict a loss given how bad the Astros are, especially now without their leadoff hitter.
  2. It would be worth it to swap Betancourt for Barmes and pay the rest of Yuni's salary and buyout at this point.
  3. No one in claiming Clint Barmes is close to Jose Reyes, but he would still be a nice upgrade over Yuni on both offense and defense.
  4. Figured it's close enough to game time to start a thread. Mods, feel free to replace my post with one of the graphic intensive ones if needed. Brewers lineup: Hart RF Kotsay CF Braun LF Fielder 1B Lopez 2B Betancourt SS Lucroy C Counsell 3B Narveson P Astros lineup: (A bunch of guys not named Hunter Pence or Michael Bourn): 2B Altuve SS Barmes CF Bourgeois 1B Lee RF Michaels LF Martinez 3B Johnson C Corporan P Myers Game preview here.
  5. Edwin Maysonet...
  6. It's arguable that we did upgrade SS if Hairston actually gets some starts there.
  7. Trade deadline is at 4PM EST (I think), so deal would have to happen before end of game today.
  8. Yeah, it makes no sense at all. Maybe Wade knows a lot of teams need a good SS so he's playing hardball with him...but why wait 'til this late in the trade deadline? It's not like Barmes is someone they'll build around.
  9. Good move for the Braves. They get a legit leadoff hitter who is also a big time base stealing threat and defensive whiz.
  10. I think Melvin is done making moves. All's quiet on the trade front. I'm guessing he's pretty satisfied after the Hairston trade, which means we are stuck with Betancourt and McGehee. Their recent "hot streaks" probably convinced Melvin to not try and replace them.
  11. I was just thinking this. Paging Craig Coshun...
  12. I was underwhelmed hearing about this initially, but I don't think Komatsu was ever going to be a key piece for the Brewers. Hairston does have some value due to his defensive versatility, and carried a pretty good OBP. Not an exciting trade, but not a terrible one either. i'm not exactly sure what the cardinals are thinking. they are making an awful lot of moves for a team that has a "first round exit" ceiling. still don't think they have enough to even win the division. They probably want to make one more playoff push in case Pujols leaves after this season.
  13. I've tempered my expectations at this point. I think Melvin might make one more small move, but it won't be for Furcal or anything like that. Maybe pick up another mediocre-ish veteran utility guy (which would mean Josh Wilson gets DFAed), or something along those lines.
  14. Yeah, I have no idea off hand. I think the Dodgers are probably asking too much for either of those two and Melvin is going to move on for lesser targets.
  15. Last season was fairly quiet too, but the team wasn't really in contention at that point and we only ended up with Claudio Vargas. I wouldn't be surprised if something happens, but then again I wouldn't be shocked if Melvin stands pat. Perhaps he's satisfied right now seeing how McGehee and Betancourt have been on hot streaks of late. The team doesn't really need any obvious upgrades in other areas.
  16. Nothing new on this posted from @MrFantasyExpert in past couple days, so I'm guessing these talks might be dead if they were ever real to begin with.
  17. I think it's a smoke screen. He's basically saying, "We're still looking, but we're not going to get gouged just to upgrade our infield with a non-superstar type player."
  18. Weird. I guess they are adamant about players having MLB experience, even if their skills seem to be on the decline.
  19. That's a great point. I'm sure every year there are plenty of "serious" negotiations that fizzle out when they reach a critical juncture, and we never hear about them at all.
  20. I'm all for bringing up Green and giving him a shot, as I don't think that means the Brewers are "giving up" on McGehee. I really wish that statement was never made, as now whenever Green does get called up it insinuates that the Brewers are now ready to "give up" on McGehee, instead of framing it as giving the guy who is tearing it up behind him a chance. This is a great point. I remember a couple years ago when both Gagne and Turnbow had mid-season stints in AAA, and there was absolutely no insinuation that the team had "given up" on them. This idea that there would be some shame in demoting a non-veteran like McGehee right now is rather silly.
  21. I should start DVRing RAW again. I stopped about three years ago when I just got so sick of John Cena and the shows seemed so boring and predictable. I've always liked CM Punk since he was "called up" to ECW several years ago.
  22. Ah, OK, cool. I was not aware of that.
  23. I don't think you have to vacate one hour before game time. I know it's a 60 minute limit at your table, though. My wife and I eat there before a game once or twice a season, and I've found the wait for a table usually isn't that bad. I suppose it would be longer if we typically had other people with us.
  24. People stay on Haudricourt about it because the Brewers' organization isn't really saying much of substance regarding Green. You would think he was some journeyman AAAA player with how little he gets mentioned by Roenicke or Melvin.
