  1. $15 million = Hawkins and Hoffman, right? If we don't have them, who the hell finishes the games?
  2. That's all well and fine. It doesn't change the fact that the Braves apparently had NO INTEREST in Hart or anything else the Brewers probably had to offer. Melvin can't force other teams to accept trades they don't want.
  3. People are continuing to ignore that the Braves apparently had not interest in Corey Hart. Hart was terrible last year and his value has apparently diminished quite a bit in terms of how other teams view him. Yeah, it stinks, but maybe if he hadn't looked like an over matched minor leaguer at the plate in 2009, someone would have traded for him.
  4. Sounds like this is about a done deal. Jon Heyman reporting Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan to the Yankees in exchange for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn. Possibly another prospect involved. I know some on here will be disappointed, since Vazquez was a name banded about on here a lot as a possible Brewers target.
  5. Latest on MLB Trade Rumors speculates that the Yankees may be working on reacquiring Javier Vasquez in exchange for Swisher and/or Melky Cabrera.
  6. I'm glad Melvin didn't trade Gamel for him. I just am not that impressed on what I've read about Morrow.
  7. No Brewers move will probably top letting Paul Molitor leave as worse in my mind. That move was a middle finger to the fan base and signaled nearly a decade and a half of abysmal Brewers baseball. I don't care that he had injuries in his past...he was a top flight hitter at the time and beloved by the fans. You don't let someone like that just walk away after giving him an insulting low ball offer. Anyway, it's just a shame that such a relatively moderate free agent signing (we're paying him "only" $12.5 million this year, not a fortune by some teams' standards), has seemingly crippled the Brewers payroll flexibility so badly. What's more frustrating is that Melvin and Attanasio should have seen this coming and moved to try and do something about it.
  8. Supposedly the Nationals were looking hard at Garland, but that may have changed now with their acquisition of Marquis. I think basically all of these guys will be out of Melvin's price range at this point.
  9. Have their been any studies to show if players actually do perform above their career norms in contract years or not?
  10. I saw a comment on MLB Trade Rumors today that Sheets reportedly "isn't even on the Yankees radar," so I'm not sure what to think about him at this point.
  11. Yeah, would have been nice, but even that contract is out of the Brewers budget at this point, apparently.
  12. I doubt they offered him anything. The rumored asking price was probably out of Melvin's budget at this point.
  13. Well, they no longer have Matsui (granted, he wasn't really an OF option anymore, but Swisher is a DH option), and may not re-sign Damon. That makes Swisher much more valuable. I would guess Melky is the more likely trade candidate than Swisher.
  14. Sounds like the wife and I have to figure out if we're going to leave on the evening of the 23rd, or risk waiting until the 24th. I hate making decisions like this. We have to travel four hours north (her parents live near Antigo), and the unpredictable Wisconsin winter weather makes planning ahead kind of a chore in itself.
  15. Well, I said repeatedly before Opening Day last season that it was foolish of the Brewers to count on both Gallardo and Parra to be bullwarks of the rotation. Neither had pitched an entire season as a starter in their careers. Gallardo worked out, and obviously Parra didn't. It's hard to say Parra's season last year was an aberration when their is no lengthy track record to point to.
  16. Swisher would be a nice upgrade over Hart (at least given last year's numbers from both players), but I think Melvin's razor thin budget makes it impossible to work out.
  17. I'll say it again...if we're going to trade Gamel, it had better be for a guy we can count on to be a consistent SP. Morrow just has too many question marks at this point to make me excited about trading for him. I think sometimes we hear about possible trade targets and, as fans, we try to just look at the positives and talk them up as much as possible, in order to get excited about them. That can be a dangerous trap to fall into, though.
  18. Having Manny Parra just be "solid" this year would be a nice surprise, and be a tremendous boost to the rotation. I hope he can pull it together. Maybe Peterson will bring some new philosophies and techniques that will help him out. I would think Parra would pretty much be priority #1 for Peterson this off-season.
  19. I think the main thing that frustrates people is that Melvin and Attanasio should have seen this budget crunch coming, and have seemed unwilling to do anything to alleviate the problem (eg. upping the pay roll and taking a loss for one year, or trying to buy out Suppan's contract with deferred payments, etc).
  20. I hope Parra gets more aggressive this year. One of my most prominent memories this year was sitting two rows behind the home dugout, during a Manny Parra start. He came in after a rough half inning, and I distinctly saw the look of fear on his face. I hope he gets over his mental hangups, and maybe Peterson can help him realize his potential.
  21. It sounds like the Atlanta tires have already been kicked and there's not much of a fit there. I could be wrong though.
  22. With the Mike Lowell trade apparently being off due to him needing surgery, is there any chance Melvin could work out a deal with the Rangers? Would they possibly be willing to give up an "OK" starting pitcher for Hart, straight up? We all know Melvin likes trading with the Rangers.
  23. Gotcha. It would be nice to have the option at least. My brother in law just got an iPhone and he loves it.
  24. Yeah, I think we just have to drop this idea at this point. Everyone seems to be obsessed with the idea of removing Suppan, but we don't have anyone to legitimately take his place at this point. Yeah, it sucks that he's making all this money this year, but there's nothing that can be done about that now.
  25. Game has been pushed back to 4 PM to allow for snow removal, per Warhawkfootball.com. Edit: Also of note is that the game will be broadcast on ESPN Classic, not ESPN2 as was previously planned.
