  1. Yeah...we need to quit pretending that some combination of Wise, Mench, Gross, Gwynn is really going to get us much significant. That's why Melvin had to trade those prospects to get Linebrink...more upside. I don't think there's any teams pining for a platoon outfielder or speedy bench guy at this point.
  2. Hopefully we can all get off the Otsuka bandwagon at this point.
  3. Out of all the Brewers' young stars, I'm thinking I would like to see Braun in a Brewers uni for the longest. Granted, I'd love them all to stay, but if I only had to pick one at this point, it would be Braun.
  4. I still feel that if the Brewers are going to hold onto their lead, another bat is needed, as evidenced by the anemic offense. I don't know if it's feasible or has any chance of happening, but I just don't see this lineup turning things around the way they're going...
  5. It is horrible. The seats suck and fans are jerks. Care to elaborate on that? Most people say that the ST. Louis fans are generally pretty knowledgeable and respectful. I remember going to the old Busch Stadium in the mid-'90s with our family while we were on vacation. We had decent seats that were higher up, and it felt like if you took a step forward, you were going to fall onto the field, that's how steep it was. The turf sure looked pristine. Got to see Ozzie Smith play, so that made my day right there.
  6. At least a fly ball is putting the ball in play...better than a strikeout or weak grounder.
  7. Schilling could probably beat up Bonds, I'm convinced.
  8. Maybe Yost is trying to tell Melvin that the Brewers need another bat, by trottting out these subpar lineups.
  9. Barry Bonds, class all the way. Imagine if Hank Aaron had said something like that before he broke Babe Ruth's record. He probably would've been lynched.
  10. Well, Towers said in that article that at one point (didn't specify if it was this year or last year or what) every other team had inquired about Linebrink. I have to believe other teams are still interested. Slightly OT question...how does a player's free agent status get decided, anyway? I mean, who decides which players are Type A or not?
  11. I hate splits, too, but the way the Brewers have been playing, I'll take it at this point.
  12. Peter Brown was the same one, IIRC, that was saying last year the Brewers would have to be careful about any deadline trades "so they don't go over the salary cap", so I don't know why we're talking about him now.
  13. You don't cheer him...you boo him, because Brewers fans are supposed to boo all their former players.
  14. Good point. In 2012 or so, we could be talking about "That memorable 2007 season." May as well enjoy it for what it is, and hope the team plays well the rest of this year.
  15. That seems...weird. Oh well, good for Brady.
  16. The Keith Law article was mentioned in the chat last night, and people immediately labeled Law as "an idiot." I think some people get a kick out of following prospects and hoping they succeed, so they can say they followed them since the beginning. That is fine, but let's keep some perspective here...no one is claiming Inman was going to be as good as Gallardo, or even Parra, from what I'm understanding. The Brewers don't have a need for a fifth starter for next year...they do have a need for a proven reliever in the bullpen right now.
  17. Interesting read, thanks for posting. Kind of interesting to see how popular the Cards are with young adults, and also how the Brew Crew is gaining in popularity (though that's not that surprising this year).
  18. One other point I think I made before (or maybe it was in the chat room last night)...look at how many young guys the Brewers have brought up in the past couple years: Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Hardy, Hart, Hall (well, ok, more than a couple years ago), Gallardo...I think it's OK to trade three players who aren't projecting as much upside as Gallardo or maybe even Villanueva, for a chance to win now. You can't hold onto all your chips forever. One other thing I was thinking of, as an aside. I'm optimistic about how Linebrink will pitch for the Brewers. He's a FA after this year. He'll be looking for a nice contract. He's coming in with something to prove, and that's a good thing, folks.
  19. mlb.mlb.com/news/article....p&c_id=cws Sorry if that was already posted, but it's a recent article that gives a background on Dye this year. Nice to note that he has hit .333 since the AS break. I'm not sure if I like the idea of the Brewers going after him or not. I do feel the offense needs a boost, and acquiring an outfielder is the only real option at this point.
  20. Oh please...Inman isn't going to be up this year and you know it.
  21. What do you expect him to say? "I just got taken by Doug Melvin and should be fired?"
  22. The guy's wife is having a baby tomorrow so he's not going to be in Cinci? Doesn't sound like a team player to me.
  23. The problem with adding two more teams is that you dillute the talent pool further. MLB would definitely need to implement the international draft if they expand any further.
  24. I like the trade. The bullpen clearly needed help. We've seen what Grant Ballfour could do, and it wasn't cutting it. Melvin went out and got a proven Major League reliever, and didn't even have to give up anyone on the big league roster to do it. I personally am not as enamored with any of the three guys traded away as some of you. Maybe Inman will develop into a great pitcher, but he apparently wasn't showing that right now. My opinion is that all the young guys the Brewers were expecting huge things from are up now. It's time to go to the playoffs. Sometimes you have to give up a couple small chips to get something to help now, and that's what Melvin did.
  25. Oh great, one of you nutcases is going to track Ryan Braun down on his boat on Lake Geneva... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
