  1. This show RULED. I was probably a little young for their target audience (born in '82) but that show cracked me up nonetheless. The little intros before the show ("Batman's Hairdryer Fries Robin" will not be seen today...) always made me laugh and the family scenes made me dead set against liver and lima beans, even though I had never tried either.
  2. Come on...we need to take advantage of the opportunity here.
  3. Wow...we get both extremes from Corey this inning. More runs!
  4. Yeah...this one's gonna get ugly fast, I fear.
  5. Between this game and the Giants game, Corey Hart is going to kill me.
  6. I'm right there with ya. The 3 run jinx is avoided for now. Now we should score 4 in the second to avoid the 5 run jinx as well.
  7. The "3D Map of Cairo" from Raiders of the Lost Ark had me laughing really hard at work today (even though it's Tanis and not Cairo in the movie). I sent in the Nike map of "The United Countries of Baseball," we'll see if it makes it on.
  8. The best part about this is that it has inspired an awesome website... http://www.mapsforus.org

  11. It's getting really hard to purposely miss the TV when I throw the remote.
  12. I will grant you that, I don't like that about The Show either. It made it a lot easier when deciding who to start vs. lefties or righties. Plus in MVP, you could pull up the opposing team's attributes in-game. That made it a lot easier to figure out bullpen moves. Although it's a little aggravating, I think both of these things are minor compared to the vast improvements in gameplay and realism that The Show has.
  13. I'm with Too Live Brew...I loved MVP, played it like crazy, and was super pissed when I found out I'd have to switch to The Show. But after two years of The Show, I have to say, it is far superior to MVP. I went back and played MVP about a week or so ago and was shocked at how "arcade-ish" the players look on the game. Not to mention that the size of the baseball is HUGE and that pitching is super easy. The Show has MVP beat up and down when it comes to gameplay. Plus, if you have online capabilities with your PS2, there's an updated roster download every Monday. They not only update players, but attributes too, according to how a player has done during the season. (My downloaded Brewers roster has Braun, Linebrink, McClung, etc., and Prince with his power meter pretty much maxed out.) I will admit that MVP did a lot of the "extra" things better than The Show. I think the way The Show does unlockables is pretty stupid. I thought MVP did a little bit better job with the jerseys, especially the retros (plus they had waaay more options). And roster moves seemed to be a little bit easier with MVP. But all in all, these are small things. Go get The Show and thank me (and TLB) later.
  14. I bought some stadium sauce at Pick N Save in Milwaukee this winter. Great stuff...it made the time until baseball season pass just a little more quickly.
  15. MicroLeague Baseball Brewers Pepsi Fan Club (with an official Paul Molitor membership card!) Getting complete sets of baseball cards as Christmas gifts The LEGO Pirates series (that might have been early 90s, can't remember)

  18. Ha. There's actually a very similar book, Nine Innings, that takes an in-depth look at one game between the Brewers and Orioles back in the early 80s. 3 Nights in August is sort of an updated, expanded version of that book.
  19. My dad got his master's in computer science around 1988 and was way into Apple computers. We had the old Apple IIe and later the IIgs at home. Oregon Trail, Carmen Sandiego, MicroLeague Baseball, and Leaderboard Golf were sweet games on those old giant floppy disks.
  20. I enjoyed the discussion of baseball strategy and the in-depth look at the series in 3 Nights in August, I just couldn't stomach the constant fawning over LaRussa and Pujols after awhile. What especially got me was when Pujols had the bum elbow early in the season and LaRussa played him in the outfield anyway, only with some convoluted strategy of him throwing to about 6 different relay men. The author gushed about the genius of such a move and never once pointed out how LaRussa was risking the career of his star player just so he could win an early season series with the Marlins.
  21. Baseball Between the Numbers by the Baseball Prospectus guys is a good read. I skimmed a few of the chapters, but all in all, it was very interesting. If you're into some older stuff, Catcher in the Wry by Uecker and The Umpire Strikes Back and Strike Two by former umpire Ron Luciano are good. And if you want to read a gushing love letter to Tony LaRussa and Albert Pujols, pick up 3 Nights in August.
  22. A place like Kohl's department store has them, anything ranging from the really cheap kind to the "classier" kind of handkerchiefs.
