  1. It's just one game out of 162. No one should get worked up about it. This is one of the biggest regular season games the Brewers have had in years, and I am not even remotely excited. I moved into the "resigned" camp during the Reds series, and it will take a lot to pull me out.
  2. Not just Burrell but Victorino too. Over the last 4 years, his OPS is 90 points higher when he faces lefties, not to mention that Shouse is not nearly as good when he faces righties. I expected no less than a 2 run double and instead he hit it out of the park just for good measure.
  3. The season premiere looks interesting, with each little segment covering one of the 8 weeks of summer. I think they would be hard pressed to not have Jim and Pam get engaged in the first episode, since they are seemingly picking up right where they left off in May. It's not like the guy is going to suddenly not want to marry her, and I don't think he'd wait 8 weeks to ask. I know the general formula for TV romances is to wait on that kind of stuff until sweeps/season finale time, but I think if they try to go that route it will be awkward and weird because they'll have to invent reasons why it hasn't happened yet (it wasn't like Pam was leaving the very next day for New York--I got the impression it would be a couple weeks before it would happen). I'm also interested to see the Dwight/Angela/Andy thing play out. It should work better this season because Angela isn't pregnant in real life, so they can have her doing things besides strategically standing behind plants.
  4. If it's not cheating to take a greatest hits album, I choose Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Greatest Hits.
  5. I think I've officially stopped believing at this point. I still have hope, and still want the Brewers to make the postseason, but I've reached the point where it just seems preordained that we're not going to make it. I really hope I'm wrong.
  6. Bummer. That's what I get for not going down there in a few years.
  7. Cameron is out of the lineup again, per TH's blog. I'll be in 406, hoping for another W. Let's go Manny!
  8. Yeah that was a hand timed 60 yard dash. It's very possible whomever was timing was early with the clicker when JJ ran. There is no way he's faster than Weeks or Braun.Yeah, any track coach (like myself) will tell you, don't trust hand timing in any event shorter than 400 meters. The shorter the event, the less reliable the hand time is. The .14 difference between JJ's 6.71 and Rickie's 6.85 is probably the result of someone with an inconsistent trigger finger at the start or the finish.
  9. I'm generally not a big fan of a 5-game, potential upset series in the first round, but I may be able to make an exception this year, given that the Brewers finally have one of those aces who can turn a series like that.
  10. I know we won, but jeez does Ned piss me off in his press conferences. "I can't keep putting CC past 120 pitches! I just can't!" Well jeez, who's the genius that has been pitching him 120+ pitches in blowouts, thus making him "unavailable" to go past 106 tonight?
  11. For Mexican, I like El Chico's over on the east side. They have ginormous burritos there. Sadly, I haven't been there in awhile. In high school, that place was a college fair tradition. You could miss the first six periods of the day for the college fair, so we'd go for a half hour, screw around downtown, head to El Chico's for a 24 inch burrito, and be back to school in time to spend all of 7th hour on the toilet. I'm sad that one of my favorite Mexican places closed recently. Dos Bandidos off of Green Bay and Silver Spring. Great food, nice atmosphere, and giant pitchers of margaritas.
  12. I wouldn't mind having him on the roster, but the problem is, if he's on the roster, Ned will pitch him in high leverage situations.
  13. In honor of Toby in the chatroom: SQUEEZE (not really)
  14. Uh-oh...we've got a runner in scoring position.
  15. Someone find a picture of Gagne being taken out by Yost, take it here and make the same thing.
  16. Where's Kenesaw Mountain Landis or Bart Giamatti when you need them?
  17. MillerParkSouth, I think there's someone new that needs to be on your avatar.
  18. It's OK for CC to throw an inordinately high amount of pitches when we're winning a game by a lot, but in a 2-1 game in the midst of a potentially devastating losing streak, he gets lifted for Eric freaking Gagne. Sounds about right. EDIT: Peavey beat me to it...but the point still stands. I imagine a lot of people are thinking the same thing right about now.
  19. At this point, I'd much rather see a September callup in the 8th inning over Gagne.
  20. As the Potawatomi guy says, "This is about to get interesting."
  21. Disclosure: I did not see or listen to the game today (had to teach), so if we beat the living crap out of breaking balls today (unlikely), disregard the following. But a leftover thought from last night's ugly game: Why would any pitcher in his right mind throw a fastball to anyone on this team? Seriously, if a pitcher throws a breaking ball right down the heart of the plate, it either freezes our hitter or they decide to just stand there and watch it. And as soon as they throw a breaking ball out of the zone, our hitters seem to just close their eyes and flail away like they're swinging at a pinata. Sometimes it really sucks to root for a team full of Pedro Cerranos.
  22. Maybe our guys need to swing harder with runners in scoring position. Yeah, that's it. Swing so hard that you almost fall down. What? We already do that? Hmm, time for a new plan.... On the plus side, Ned FINALLY pinch hit for Kendall. Sure it took him until the 10th inning of a game on September 2nd to do it, but hey, baby steps, right?
  23. Now would be a nice time for Prince to find that power stroke again.
  24. Plan for the rest of the season: every starter is now on a 200 pitch limit per start. That oughta take care of things.
