  1. His slash line looks great, but it is Colorado Springs. His BB/K ratio still stinks. I don't think there's any reason to get excited.
  2. I'm super glad we didn't take a chance at winning the game there.
  3. also probably the Blue Jays (Ryan Goins), Angels (Giavotella & Pennington) & Cardinals (Wong) Blue Jays have a young guy named Devon Travis that is in extended spring training. He put up a 859 OPS last year in 200 ABs. The angels are toast this year. They aren't going to trade for a 2b unless they can also trade for 2 starting pitchers first. Wong just signed a long term deal this off season, so I can't image the cards are going to trade for Scooter, even if Wong continues to struggle, they have Aledyms Diaz to move to second once Peralta comes back in a few weeks. No, it's pretty much KC and Baltimore unless some other second bagger goes down.
  4. The problem is, who is a trading partner for Scooter? The only two teams that would possibly see him as an upgrade would be KC and maybe Baltimore.
  5. Did you see the documentary abou the knuckleball? Harder to throw than you think. In the last 100 years there have been like 11 knuckleball pitchers in the bigs. I also wonder if the fact that hitters rarely see one helps with it's effectiveness. It's like some kind of homeostasis. If someone was able to develop knuckleball pitchers at a more rapid rate, I wonder if hitters would adjust to seeing that pitch more often.
  6. Our playoff odds have only decreased 1% since the start of the season. Thank you fangraphs. Changes In Playoff Odds So Far AL Team Change in Odds NL Team Change in Odds White Sox 30% Nationals 12% Royals 14% Mets 7% Orioles 14% Pirates 4% Mariners 11% Cubs 3% Athletics 9% Rockies 0% Rays 4% Cardinals 0% Red Sox 2% Phillies 0% Rangers -4% Braves 0% Blue Jays -6% Brewers -1% Tigers -6% Diamondbacks -1% Angels -6% Reds -1% Indians -7% Dodgers -2% Twins -8% Padres -2% Yankees -9% Marlins -8% Astros -37% Giants -11%
  7. With the win today we officially have more wins in April this year than we had in all of April last year.
  8. Just think of the great prospects we can trade him for if he doesn't give up a run the whole season.
  9. There is absolutely no evidence for this. Peralta is the same mediocre pitcher whether Lucroy or Moldonado is catching. Baseball-reference has splits by catcher and its is basically the same. A 99 OPS+ with Lucroy in 265.1 innings and a 100 OPS+ with Moldonado in 257.2 innings The ERA is different but that is likely more due to the CS% with Lucroy at a mediocre 18% but Moldonado at a unlikely to continue 55%. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=peralwi01&year=Career&t=p Seems to me his era is a full run better this year when Maldy is catching him.
  10. The 76ers GM is available. Maybe we should get him to be our VP of competitiveness.
  11. Anybody think they are going to play .600 ball to start the season? Or play .600 ball for any month in the year? Ah the offseason, I miss you already.
  12. Last Brewer pitcher to win a post-season game. Gonna have that for a while.
  13. He didn't unlawfully discharge a firearm because he was in Florida, and apparently you can shoot a gun any darn time or place you want in Florida. So I demand that you get a 3 day ban from Brewerfan.net for not knowing Florida gun laws better. On appeal we'll knock it down to 1 day.
  14. Going to disagree with you on that. First off, there would appear to be a limited number of good announcers to bring in. I think we've been spoiled in the general quality of announcers we've had on both TV and radio, even if I haven't been huge fans of a couple of them. Second, I would prefer to not have a mercenary calling the game. I'd like to think the TV and radio crew are somewhat invested in the team. Finally I really think guys like Jim Powell who get to know the entire organization, like the minors, really bring something to the broadcast. You aren't going to get that by bringing in a new guy every 2-3 years.
  15. The free agent pool in thin next year beyond Carlos Gomez, so he wants to opt out and take another crack at it next year. Well see if it pays off. But in the short term not accepting the QO was a mistake.
  16. That's a nice call. I think that one call alone has more excitement in the voice than all of Joe Block's calls in two years. He made a nice post about leaving Nebraska. Sounds like a guy that doesn't want to job hop, so hopefully he will be here for a while. And hopefully he'll be good, and I think he will be.
  17. Never warmed to Block. I thought Jeff was pretty good in the little bits I heard him last year. I look forward to hearing him this year full time. I don't get the provius love at all. Worse than Block.
  18. A buddy was telling me that based on WAR last season he was worth $70M. $50M seems reasonable if that is accurate.
  19. No offense but people who think the Brewers have a chance to be competitive next year also think the castaways had a chance to get off Gilligan's Island every episode. Yes I am old.
  20. Name one player other than Pete Rose or the PED suspects who was excluded for "character and sportsmanship". You can't, because this witch hunt is a modern invention of angry writers who have never touched a baseball bat. ) Dick Allen.
  21. So in this scenario all the players on the other ML teams get busted for PEDs? All the players on all the teams are dirty except for the Brewers, kinda like the Pirates in the Mitchell report years ago? So the Brewers get to go against the other team's minor league players for 50-100 games? That's the only way I see them playing .600 ball in any 40 game stretch. .520 was their best stretch in any month last year. The answer is A. Had 2014 not happened maybe they would make a run at it, knowing Mark A wants to contend every year. But I think 2014 will prevent the them for falling for fool's gold anytime soon.
  22. Too lazy to look up the cubs games attendance, but I think that might help the Brewers big time. I could see all the cubs games being close to sell outs. Much cheaper and easier to get a ticket here than for wrigley and of course a nicer stadium too.
