  1. So if you go by just OPS and LF who qualify, Lee would look to be less than the average NL LF. Miller Park is probably a neutral hitters park. Lee is within 80 points of Burrell, and Burrell plays in a great hitters park. Holliday and Gonzalez are also higher than Lee, but they both play in severe hitters parks. Maybe it's my eyes deceiving me but I just have a hard time thinking Lee is an average NL LF. Or maybe it's just the comparisons I draw in my head between him and Matt Meiske that make Carlos look so good.
  2. Is there a link showing who the other 7-8 NL LF that were better than Lee, and the other LF who were worse. Just curious. I searched the site but I didn't see anything like that, just the NL average lineup. Just curious.
  3. Why is Garner playing the infield in? It's the first inning with Pettite on the mound against Santos?
  4. It all goes back to yesterday when we didn't score against a really cruddy pitcher, so Yost thinks he has to make something happen. And he did make something happen. He made a double play happen. I'll take Brady Clark up with the bases load with 2 outs against a guy he hit a HR against earlier in the game over Ben Sheets trying a suicide squeeze every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
  5. This is the game. This is the turnaround game. This is the game that turns around the season.
  6. Does it look like Jenkins is a little gimpy running the bases? Bill kept mentioning he took second of the first pitch to Millar and didn't run after than. He didn't look to good running around second and coming into 3rd.
  7. Ned just needs to go off after this game on the postgame spread. Just take a bat and go nuts.
  8. Yeah, but it was bad logic. Even if the bunt would have been successful, and Overbay or Lee would have gotten the run in, what happened the next inning? The Pirates scored and the Brewers would still have needed a run to win. That's the problem with playing for one run. At best you only get one run and sometimes you don't even get the one. Even worse, you generally need more than one run to win. Also, suppose the sac bunt was successful. The Pirates brought in their lefty to get out Overbay. Then they walk Lee and get the lefty-lefty matchup they want with Jenkins. So our big right handed hitter keeps the bat on the shoulder while the pirates get to face Jenkins who hits .230 against lefties. Face it,. it's bad strategy to sac bunt at the top of the order. The sooner Ned forgets this strategy the better.
  9. That was a pathetic bunt attempt by Spivey. Not only was it right back to the pitcher, but it was in the air too. I think the pitcher could have caught it had he been a good fielder. Can someone explain to me how bunting is aggressive? To me aggressive is trying to get an extra base hit. I don't think Junior Spivey thinks he is being aggressive when he is bunting. It's one thing to bunt for a base hit, it's another thing to do a sacrifice bunt, which that clearly was. Does Ned still think he had Craig Counsel hitting in the 2 hole? Someone rush a copy of Moneyball to Ned quick. Frankly, after these first few games, I think I would have more confidence in Jim Powel being our manager than Ned. It worked in Houston.
