Wouldn't his biggest trade be Jennings for Taveras, Buckolz and Hirsch. That trade more than anything sealed Pupura's fate. Back to Garner, wasn't the Astros MO under scrap iron to start slow and come on fast in the second half? I think then what the brewers need to do is to come up with the first ever managerial platoon. Yost manages the brewers for the first half of the season, until the all star break, and then Garner manages in the second half.
Yeah, that wasn't really the question I asked, and those guys really aren't on the team anymore anyway. It would have been Hardy/Hall or Hall/Hart/Gross. But I was really just interested in his defense, because the main premise behind moving Hall was that Hardy's defense was in theory going to be that much greater than Hall. Just like to know if that is true or not.
From what I heard on the radio, MLB jacks up the prices big time on playoff tickets, and then each of the individual franchises decide if they want to wet their beak some more too.
He has a high OBP and takes a lot of pitches, goes deep into the count. There is a lot to like. He's not going to be a superstar but he's the kind of player that can be useful.
I'm not a stat's guy, but I would love a comparison to Hall vs. Hardy last year to this year. Anybody have solid numbers if Hardy has been that much of an improvement over Hall?
Can we start an official The Brewers are toast thread yet, that will be pinned at the top of the board. I don't think the vent thread alone is going to satisfiy my rage. I was also thinking about starting a "Who are you rooting for to win the NL Central Cubs-Cards thread" But I figured it would just get locked and moved to the vent thread. I was holding out hope that the Brewers would only be 1-2 games back when Sheets got off the DL, but I don't think that's going to happen now. If we don't win tomorrow I don't see us beating Harang on Sunday, and then we go on the road. The season could be over before Sept. 1 if the cubs or cards get hot.
Okay, well, uh... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get 'em.
Convenient of you to leave off Sheets injury, Hall's injury, and Hardy's 2 month slump. And they are still tied for first. For that Yost should be fired? I don't think so.
What exactly has Ned Yost done that would cause the team to turn on him? Sending down Weeks had to be Melvin's decision as much as Yost's. Some people have problems with his decison making, but I haven't seen anything that would be so stupid as to be questioned by the players. He doesn't call the players out in the media. If that quote is true there must be more to the story than what's been aired in the press, or at least anything I've read.
He may have had TJ surgery. I didn't look that far back. In which case he is Balfour, just 3 years younger. Altought Balfour had 2 surgeries didn't he?
I don't follow the minors as closely as many posters on this site, but it seems like Inman is having trouble hacking it in AA right now. Isn't he like 1-5 with a bad ERA? From a major league prospective, I like this trade. I would assume this trade means we will rarely ever have to see guys like Balfour or even Spurling in a tie ballgame anymore. Hopefully it also gives the boys in the clubhouse a little juice knowing that Doug and Mark A are willing to make moves to go for the title.
I personally don't take much stock in a hot couple of months in AAA from a 29 year old relief pitcher. I'd rather look at his entire career at the major league level. It hasn't been impressive. Doug did his best to find another diamond in the rough, but it's time to cut our loses on this guy.
Weather's began his career as a starter. He was lit up as a starter. When he moved to the bullpen and didn't have to go as long or through the lineup more than once, he vastly improved. He is not comparable to Balfour, who has only started one game in his career. Dan Kolb caught lighting in a bottle for 2 seasons with the brewers, when he was great. He had one other season that was medicore at best 4.219 ERA. Other than that he hasn't had a season with an era under 4.6. I don't see either Kolb or Weathers as being persuasive arguements for keeping Balfour.
Went to the game today with the wife. We entered the stadium in the left field corner. Just ahead of us a young guy was getting his backpack searched. The security guy take out something of his backpack and puts it on the white table. I was expecting a can of soda. Instead as I pass by I saw it was a can of chicken soup. No idea why the guy brought that to the stadium. Only thing I can think of is that he uses that backpack for work and forgot it was in there. Either that, or he wanted Suppan's autograph. Anybody else seen anything crazy confiscated at Miller Park?
I don't get what the Pirates get out of this deal. Izturis is a FA after this year is he not? What's the point in trading for a guy for 2 months, when you aren't going anywhere anyway. If they do trade away Wilson, and I highly doubt they do, they must have a guy in the minors that could give them what Izturis would do for them. Doesn't make sense, other than Tracy and Izturis get to have that ex-dodgers reunion they must have been hoping to have.
