  1. The possibility of Mench being in LF prompted me to look at his stats. Does he really only have 1 BB in 118 AB's? (Suppan has two, for crying out loud.) Elias should see if anyone has ever racked up more triples than BB's in 100+ AB's.
  2. Ryan Braun has 14 chances without an error.
  3. Almost June, and Hall is still GOD AWFUL at centerfield. So you expected that he was going to learn to play his -- what? -- fourth MLB position in a couple of months? It might be slightly unrealistic to expect that he's going to play Gold Glove defense out there anytime soon.
  4. I really like it, and if it were free I would probably spend 90% of my free time there.
  5. For once I am glad that I could only follow on-line from my office. I think I might have wrecked my TV (by throwing it out the window, perhaps) if I had seen that inning. I agree 100% with the comments re: Cordero here. The cult of the save once again shows its shortcomings.
  6. I agree, Tbadder. 3 ER in 6 IP translates into a 4.50 ERA, and the league average in the NL now is closer to 4. Maybe they should call it a "competent start" or something.
  7. I basically agree that Sheets didn't earn many beauty points last night -- lots of hits, not very many K's, etc. But he gutted it out after that first inning and, as mentioned above, he kept the team in the game. He hasn't been going super-deep into games lately -- the IP for his last 7 starts are 3, 6, 6.1, 6, 7.2, 6.1, and 6. I guess there might be some caution involved w/the hamstring and blister. (And six quality innings is nothing to complain about.) And his ERA+ is now 108 -- better than average, but not crazy-good. I keep waiting for a nice crazy-good stretch a la 2004 . . .
  8. I imagine that there must be other Brewer fans out there who are into WIS. I'd like to start a Brewers' theme league of some kind. Any interest? (I know it's expensive, but it's kind of fun.)
  9. These Sheets threads are becoming as contentious as the TGJ threads. It seems as though people really don't process the arguments that other posters make -- they just invent straw men and then rip them down (over and over and over . . .). I will say that I have high expectations for Sheets -- because he's good. And I have a feeling he's going to rise to the challenge tonight because of the losing streak, and because he's facing Smoltz. Whether or not the Brewers win the game, of course, is going to depend in part on the offense. They gotta score some runs.
  10. Is that five series lost in a row? (Mets, Phils, Twins, Dodgers, Pads -- yeah, five.) I know that they are good teams, and the rest of the Central is dreadful, but the Brewers seem to have completely lost their mojo.
  11. I am still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of an All-Branyan v. All-Sanchez game.
  12. If Nix gets called up, he and Rivera can have a contest to see who will walk least.
  13. I won't quite put Sheets in Kerry Wood territory yet, if only because his injuries are more evenly distributed over his body -- arm, ear, chest, etc. I guess he's due for some turf toe next? Nice to hear a Jenks home-run call, though. I had sort of forgotten what one sounded like . . .
  14. Sheets is pretty much snake-bit. I mean, has anyone ever heard of "pec tightness" knocking someone out?
  15. We've already given up 20 runs in this series. To the Pirates.
  16. I am not sure that I want him in, but I think he at least deserves to be put on the ballot.
  17. Not so much for me. I simply think he falls a little short. (That is a "no.")
  18. It's too bad that there isn't some way to formally acknowledge guys who fall into this "really good, but not quite great" category (as I'm afraid Dawson does). I guess "HOF JV" probably doesn't have much of a ring to it, though.
  19. I think I might root for Perez in the 8th, if it gets that far.
