  1. My dream boyfriend. Very acceptable man-crush.
  2. I sincerely hope the craptastic duo of Buck/McCarver takes their terrible act to the NYM/PHI game today. I can just imagine McCarver doing the Brewers game: "Isn't it ironic that the Cubs used a 'crew' of relievers to beat Milwaukee yesterday?"
  3. Just glancing at the "record tracker" t the top of the page and noticing that the Brewers have played the Reds only twice thus far. That seems really weird to me -- team is in your division and you only play them twice before the AS Game? (Was there a rain-out in there someplace?) Anyway, here's hoping Benny figures out Wrigley and blots out memories of yesterday.
  4. I remember the 2nd half performance of the last Brewers closer selected to the all star game..... Want to know something spooky? Turnbow's implosion really started on July 1 of last year, when he gave up 3 ER's and didn't record an out against the Twins. Here's hoping that it's just an inevitable bad day for CoCo, and not something similarly disastrous.
  5. The game sucked! New game tomorrow! Precisely. Gotta suck it up and move on.
  6. It's a good thing that we're not allowed to use expletives here.
  7. Yeah, it was a good day for legit milestones -- between his 3,000th hit and Thomas' 500th HR. (None of the nose-holding that we're bound to see later this summer with Bonds.)
  8. If memory serves, Davis was a high school teammate of both Daryl Strawberry and Chris Brown (of the Giants). For some reason, I think that they had to face John Elway in state tournament game. (This could be totally garbled. There's a good book about the whole thing, but my memory fails there as well.)
  9. Drafting guys in any sport seems like a crapshoot sometimes, but Yi takes it to an entirely different level. For the sake of the franchise, I hope he works out OK.
  10. He's definitely going to benefit from comparisons to some of the more tainted HR-hitting types. He's always been just a naturally large dude. Has Sammy's body really changed more than Roger Clemens' has? (That's not a rhetorical question. I haven't seen their respective "before" and "after" pictures lately.)
  11. Of course I had to Google her, and (not to generalize too much) her political profile seems to suggest that her kids probably won't be spending a lot of time playing organized sports. But you never know -- maybe he could be the Paul Robeson type. (Would you say that MLB skews to the right, politically? That's always been my totally anecdotal sense, based on things like Suppan's anti-stem cell ad in MO last year.)
  12. I teach at UW-Madison and therefore get a lot of spam from activist groups, most of which I delete without even opening. However, I got something last semester from a Socialist activist named Elizabeth Wrigley-Field. I actually read it to make sure it wasn't a joke. (It wasn't. That's her name.) I would say that her chances of hitting a walk-off anytime soon are pretty slim, though.
  13. I think you have to dig hard unless you know it's a tape-measure bomb. Easier said than done, though. You really only have a split-second to decide the trot v. sprint issue as you're coming out of the box. One would hope that sprint would be the automatic default option, but . . .
  14. Doug is way overdue for a Ranger-related transaction, so I wouldn't bet against Wilson.
  15. I am not sure if there is any major league baseball player who would remind me less of Jimi Hendrix. But the song does include the lyric "no reason to get excited," so maybe it is a perfect fit. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
  16. You wonder if that might have been the last straw for the 'stros this year.
  17. Cubbie hatred issues aside, I like Hughes. (And the comments above are absolutely right re: Santo.) Powell has grown on me. He's still a tiny bit too much of a homer, but that probably comes with the territory. (And I think he has stopped bemoaning the Yankees' payroll pretty much every time he mentions them. That used to really annoy me.)
  18. In case you didn't think Prince's inside-the-park HR had much of an impact, it's mentioned in this week's Onion.
  19. The thing is that most people who boo Lee aren't doing it "just because he's an opponent." They're doing it because they think he somehow jilted the Brewers, and that thinking is just wacky. Yeah, this is a complicated one. I mean, I think he eventually would have jilted the Brewers, had he not been traded to Texas. (Check that: I know he would have jilted the Brewers.) Then, in my mind, he would be boo-worthy. But I think the trade was sort of like the George Costanza preemptive break-up -- the Brewers broke up with him before he could break up with them. So I don't think he should be booed for that. Also, as has been mentioned earlier, he was a solid teammate and decent overall citizen during his tenure in Milwaukee.
  20. I have a hunch that it will be Fielder, CoCo, and Sheets, at least initially, with Hardy (perhaps undeservedly) on the bubble. Four Brewers might be a stretch (not because of merit, mind you). I do think J.J. would have an excellent shot at winning the last-second fan balloting, though. So that might get the Brewers four players anyway.
  21. Are the Cubs really involved in more insane games than other teams, or do they just stand out more because of the extra media attention? Whatever the case, that game was wacky.
  22. You must have missed the broadcasts when the fact that 22 other teams have used more lineups than the Brewers came out? I was half-kidding. (And it's sort of off-topic anyway.)
  23. It does seem odd to skip a guy's turn, in these circumstances, after his arguably best start of the season. It has to do wonders for his psyche. I hope that Ned's near-obsessive lineup fiddling isn't going to bleed over into the rotation now.
  24. Hey, T-Bow went out and got 4 outs in the 8th inning last night. He should get some props for going the extra mile there.
