  1. Trenni confirmed me as a friend yesterday. It made my heart pitter-patter.
  2. Is there an open platform for POIs? That's the one thing that bugs me. I've used both Tomtom and iGo, and I really don't prefer one over the other, functionality-wise... but you're always stuck with whatever set of POIs they feel like giving you. Wouldn't it just make sense for there to be an open format for this type of thing? If I had a business, I'd make sure that my entry in the "master POI open database" was there and correct. It seems like it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to synchronize that database with whatever GPS device I'm using.
  3. Wow. Lenny Dykstra makes Cecil Fielder look like Ward Cleaver.
  4. One of the luxuries of running this site is that I get to pimp my own stuff without mercy. I started a new blog today, where I'm going to chronicle technical and non-technical aspects of the re-write of Brewerfan.net. The range of conversation is going to be pretty narrow (gritty technical details, and problems I run into and resolve while re-writing the website), but maybe there's a couple of people that were interested in this type of thing, so I figured I'd put this out there. Plus, my employer said that they "wanted me to blog" so that I and my company got a little more exposure.
  5. Hey Rickey, We're certainly going to include you in the "first class" of the Brewers Fan HOF. Partly because you really do deserve to be there, plus I really hadn't planned on doing a yearly induction, or anything like that anyway (as I don't want want calendar time to mandate that we add more people). As far as Baseball Bob goes, do we have any more info on him? I'd like to have a photo and a blurb about each of our Brewers Fan HOF inductees. I'll admit that my knowledge when it comes to people at the park is lacking, as I generally either opt for the cheap seats or radio/tv broadcasts.
  6. That's my feeling as well. I definitely don't want to include people like Bernie Brewer, at least in this iteration... I understand the love for the Iceman, and I think he's sort of in a special category. I'm just sort of hesitant to launch the feature with just two fans. I suppose The Maniac might be worth inclusion, though.
  7. So here's the deal. I signed up for a new email hosting plan for brewerfan.net email addresses with the same company that I use to register my domains (dotster.com). When they offered to transfer the DNS records over, I said "sure, go for it". Little did I know that they not only transferred the MX records over (the thing that points where your email lives) but the A records as well (the that point swhere your website lives). So, I transferred it back, and hopefully in a matter of hours everyone should be able to see brewerfan.net at brewerfan.net again. I have an email out to dotster.com's support staff to deal with the rest of the issues.
  8. I unlocked the GPS functionality of my US Cellular HTC 6800 (before that, I had used an external bluetooth GPS receiver which cost about $40). I use Tomtom 7, I believe, and it's great. I like not having to carry around another device, or having to worry about another device getting stolen.
  9. It seems as though the site has been up and down a couple of times over the past 24 hours. It's up now, so you should be ok.
  10. Well, the "up and atom" speech worked last year in Boston, so why not, I guess.
  11. Ken Macha should start a vent thread.
  12. Any pix? Honestly, I've always been more of a fan of "cute" than "hot". Regardless, I thought she did a good job professionally, so hopefully she takes away some of the much unneeded attention from that hussy, Erin Andrews.
  13. I switched to Chrome for a while, but their lack of plugin/addon support turned me back to firefox (at least for now). I do like how safari for Windows renders pages, though.
  14. I guess I disagree with this statement. As long as you have at least two teams that are bidding for Fielder's services, his trade value is exactly the same. Yes, the world may know that you're going to trade Fielder, but those teams are still going to bid against each other to acquire him.
  15. I see what you mean. I wish there were a way with CSS to outline the letters in the header bar with a black border. There's technically a tag to allow it, but most browsers don't support it. The alternative would be having images for those headers, but I'd like to try to avoid that, as it would take processing power and loading time.
  16. We've had some internal discussions about relaxing the posting rules, and I think Jamie's going to post something in the coming week about that. Specifically to the IGT's, we're loosening up the rules a smidge, but I would still prefer it if comments about a particular game stay in that thread. I understand that it can be hard to manage sometimes, but speaking from experience, the alternative has sometimes been worse.
  17. I think a venting FORUM would definitely be too much. Internally, we've (the mods) been talking about the venting thread and agreed to revisit the discussion in a month, to see how things go in April.
  18. Yeah, perhaps we should expand it to "Legends" or "Stadium Legends".
  19. I think Matt V gave him the original name... Basically, at county stadium, Happy was very proactive about going for home run balls, and I believe it was reaction on camera when he got a ball that earned him the name.
  20. I'm sort of going back and forth on Freeway. I know that he's definitely a recognizable fan, but given his particular mannerisms and why he's famous, I'm not sure I want to list him... Basically, if he has medical or mental conditions, I don't want to appear like we're making fun of that.
  21. As far as handhelds go, I plan on handling them either with a separate stylesheet or perhaps even with a completely different outer template page. Unfortunately, this is something I won't be able to carry over to yuku.
  22. Hey all, So I'm working on the new version of the website, and I'd like to have a portion of the site devoted to fan "legends". We are, after all, brewerfan.net, and die-hard Brewers fans are definitely a subculture of their own. We're fortunate enough to have two users that I would consider "legends" (the Doorman and the Happy Youngster). Other people I can think of, off the top of my head, are "The Maniac" (who I believe does or used to post at the brewers.com message board) and perhaps Freeway. Are there any other legends you can think of that might warrant inclusion into the site?
  23. Here's a screenshot of the current working beta version's home page: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/phearinc/screenshot1.png Omitted for now are things like advertisements, and some of the navigations options you see will be removed and other will be added, but this the general idea for the new layout of the site. The site will now expand to fill the entire window instead of being a fixed width (I think it's 800px right now or so) to take advantage of wide screen monitors. We will also be adding more content to the home page, such as perhaps news feeds from other Brewers sites, and perhaps exclusive brewerfan blogs (I'll start a separate thread on the recruiting process for that at some point). The idea we're going for, here, is simplicity and usability... Fewer graphics to speed up loading times (although, we will be doing more with photos and videos on pages where it makes sense to do so)... a search box at the top right of all pages to search for things like players, teams, brewer history items, FAQs, stats, etc. Comments/critiques of course, are welcome. I want the construction of the new site to be something that all of you have a lot of input on. EDIT: also, the word "Home" will be removed from the home page in the final version... that's just a debugging thing for me right now.
  24. The graphics will be similar, but much more streamlined. Not sure when I'll get a beta up for public viewing, but a private beta will probably be up in the next few weeks. Maybe I'll put up a couple of screenshots online when things are a little more solid. Think baseball-reference.com, but not ugly. As far as single sign-on goes, the only other way to do it would be to have Yuku expose their authentication mechanism externally, so we could track the same username/password combinations, but I doubt that's on their radar.
