  2. Your assumption is Green is on "the list". I'm not saying he's not, but other than a ton of rumors, we have nothing tangible there to go on... Not even word to his agent that it's a possibility.
  3. Not exactly. The only restrictions on the PTBNL are: - Can't be in the same league as the player traded - Must be named within 6 months of the trade Now, there are restrictions on trading players in general: - Can't be traded until after a year of pro baseball - Can't be on the DL However, you can use the PTBNL to trade a player on the DL, because he conceivably would be off the DL before 6 months are up. The same goes with a player who hasn't accrued a year's worth of service time.
  4. Feel a bit bad for the hard luck Shapiro's had this year. Seems like a very classy guy.
  5. It could be the kind of thing where Shapiro loses out on someone else Melvin would possibly deal, forcing him to make that selection sooner than the end of the season.
  6. I don't see anything wrong with a year of "break-in" sporadic playing time. It worked for Corey pretty well, and teams do it quite a bit. I'm not saying you want to do that kind of thing perennially with a player, but the player isn't going to be rendered useless, development-wise, if he's not in there every day.
  7. It's a valid topic, but let's use this thread already in-progress in the trade rumors/proposals forum.
  8. I'm not sure why people think it's either Escobar or Hardy either. Maybe it is, but there's no reason that they couldn't use Escobar as a reserve. He'd be a terrific defensive replacement, and decent middle infield insurance.
  9. I saw it reported somewhere as true ... of course, we've seen all kinds of stuff reported. I think it's save to say that it's: Sabathia for Laporta, Jackson, Bryson and a PTBNL
  10. I think that's reading into it a bit too much. Time is on the Brewers side if and when they find an alternative at first-base. There are plenty of internal options as well as options via trade to backfill for Prince (if he doesn't sign). 1B is the easiest position on the diamond to fill, so that's the last thing I'm worried about at this point, I guess.
  11. JJ Hardy the PTBNL? No way it's true. I doubt Stone even said that ... My guess is whomever posted it either misunderstood a comment about Hardy or is making it up.
  12. Generally speaking, teams with the higher payrolls that can support Sheets or Sabathia tend to finish higher in the rankings. So no, 5 out of the first 35 isn't guaranteed, but there's a decent shot 1 or both with give you another team's first rounder.
  13. I have to be honest here. I feel that you have chosen negativity to define yourself as a Brewers fan, or at least as a member of this site. I'm not saying that you're not entitled to your opinion, but your reaction doesn't fall in line with some of the most staunchest critics here. Back to your point, the farm system is incredibly deep right now, and while LaPorta had a lot of value, the well is far from dry.
  14. Huh. That's not usually the case, but obviously I'll defer to you on this one, as you're more than likely a bit more plugged in than I am http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. A PTBNL is usually: - an injured player - a player from the current year's draft - most often, an organizational soldier I really, really doubt the PTBNL will be a top 15 P50 player. The report out of someone who "heard on the radio" in Cleveland that it would be Salome or Jeffress depending on how well Sabathia does is more than likely trying to just cash in on some attention.
  16. Neither ... take the plethora of draft picks and keep turning the carousel.
  17. Sometimes owners will go over GM's heads and force something to get done (firing managers, signing A-Rod), but I don't think we've ever got and indication that this is the case with Melvin/Mark A.
  18. Hey 39, just worry about your clients. Don't let us add at all to your stress level.

  20. To me, giving up LaPorta was pretty big. Now, I just hope Doug's able to swing another deal to tweak the pen and ensure that this trade doesn't just get us 99% of the way there. Postseason or bust, baby.
