  2. Not to mention, if they held it at Perkin's, I imagine the margin that went to charity probably wouldn't be all that great. ------------------ Urban Dictionary: thread crapping
  3. Seems like etiquette would dictate that you wouldn't comment negatively on a charity event the site was trying to promote, but maybe I'm just being greedy.

  5. I'm not very wealthy, and I'd figure a $150 per plate for an ungodly fantastic meal (Fleming's is terrific), meet & greet with Rickie Weeks and other players and money going to charity would be a worthwhile expenditure... Figure you could even write part of it off. *shrug*. If I didn't already have long-standing plans, I would have signed up. I guess I'm not sure why you chose to take a dump on the thread, still. What was the purpose?

  7. You would think that MLB would work out a deal were amateur teams below a certain age level would be able to use their trademarks for no charge... Otherwise, they're simply putting a roadblock in the way of getting kids to play the game that will ultimately fund them. It just seems like it's shortsightedness. It's not like they're going to start offering jerseys of their little league teams for re-sale in adult sizes, and say it's simply the jersey for their little league team.
  8. First of all, would you actually have gone to this, given your geographical limitations? This brings me to my point ... maybe instead of trying to take a dump on the thread with saying that you deem the charity event as too expensive, you would have been better off leaving it alone. Really, what value did it add? It certainly did nothing to persuade people to give money for a great cause. I really think that's in poor taste, but honestly, you have a habit for doing this to threads, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
  9. My problem with valuing stolen bases and speed in general is the pressure it puts on the pitcher. Is the pitcher going to be less apt to throw a breaking ball when the delivery to the plate needs to be quicker?... Does it take pitchouts and the free ball it gives the batter into account? I'm really not sure how you can formulate that... I don't think it's a HUGE part of the game, but I don't think it gets enough credit in statistical circles.

  11. It's about time they put the clamps down on those theiving kids. Today, stealing MLB trademarks... tomorrow, addicted to meth.
  12. It probably would, but at 28 years old, I'm left wondering if he's worth it... Since he's a lefty, I'd rather just assume take my chances with Branyan and wait for Gamel if Hall's not the answer for the next year or so at 3B.

  14. I'm not sure I follow ... What does this have to do with a charity event?
  15. Nice outing by The One Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken tonight.
  16. link Would you care so much if it was a player other than Bill Hall?
  17. Given that you have an obvious personal interest in Bill Hall, I don't believe you're speaking objectively.
  18. So what's the point of wasting everyone's time with a post-game interview then?
  19. Masterson seems like he'll be an OK pitcher, but not the kind of special player LaPorta could be.
  20. I'm not sure, did you compile that by hand?... and if so, what's the min number of PA's per pitcher that you're going off?
  21. You really didn't answer the question about Hall's 2007 vs. RHP. And here are the logs vs each pitcher. Nothing in there tells me that many good righthanders have him for lunch. There's a couple that do, but there's also several that he's tore up. What are you basing this on?
  22. Was carpooling with an Indian guy for a few months when I had a gig in Madison, and he started to do the same thing. I'm really surprised I'm still here to tell the tale.
  23. But that's the point, John ... Playing him when he has favorable matchups is the dictionary definition of platooning them. What do you say about his (Hall's) splits last year? Another statistical anomaly? And yeah, Hardy's suffering big time right now. But the point is, and I've said it before, he doesn't have a platoon-mate that can take the burden off him. If he did, I'd be all for it (and Counsell isn't it).
  24. I suppose the importance of that boils down to how much worse a K is than a contact out...
