  1. 12.5 AB/HR has no relative meaning to the average fan watching the game ... heck, it doesn't have much meaning to me without doing a little bit of mental math. If we regularly saw AB/HR comparisons between players, it would be another story. We're finally getting to the point now where OBP is becoming more of a standardized stat with the masses, and that's a start. You can sort of shift your mind from BA to OBP, and there's a comparison between the two. I think as the years go by, the same shift will happen from OBP to OPS. Now, if we could only get Bill Schroeder to talk about VORP.
  2. Brian Anderson was referring to OPS the other day and pronounced it "ahhps". I think we have a long way to go before non-traditional stats get near the mainstream.
  3. The case I've been making is that the perception that CF is "harder" than LF to play, ignoring speed, might be incorrect. And if that's the case, it's not as slam dunk of a decision (although since I believe Hart is the faster player, I think he would get the nod over Braun).
  4. Honestly, I think players are well aware of what's going on anywhere in MLB, and the problem doesn't have to be located in the Brewers clubhouse to have an impact. This isn't a problem that's unique to Milwaukee, and I'm sure it'll happen again to the next player that feels that they're getting the shaft, despite what happens here with Hall.
  5. I really think Laporta has the chance to be a player as special as Prince is. Honestly, given the opinion I have that the Brewers aren't necessarily in or out of contention right now, Sabathia having a down year so far, and he being a career 3.87 ERA pitcher (very, very good, but not elite), I think giving up Laporta is too steep of a price. And as much of a Marte fan as I was before, I'm not so much any more.
  6. Looks like he pleaded no contest under the terms that he go to a Families of Purpose (FOP) Program for the duration of 1-year. Hopefully he and the family get everything squared away.
  7. I won't lie and say the report of that didn't make me shudder.
  8. If there's something I've learned over the past 100 years, it's that the Cubs find have a knack for choking. I know, different personnel mean different teams, but if I'm a Cub fan, I guess I'd feel a bit nervous about printing playoff tickets until at least the end of July.
  9. Early last year, it seems that the Brewers were poised to absolutely run away with the central, whereas the Cubs seemed to be destined to finish in the lower half of the division. I'm just sayin...
  10. One of our mods had a bit of a "run in" with a user regarding "AOL speak". Words like "u" and "ur" have sort of become a part of communication on the internet, but honestly, when I'm reading someone's post, I find it hard to read and to take seriously when someone doesn't take the time to spell out words. Now, I'm not going to say that we're going to start banning people for the occasional "lol" or anything, but please, be reasonable and take pride in your posts.
  11. I think the real wildcard here is Gamel's D ... Do any of our Huntsville users have anything of a scouting report to provide here?
  12. Capellan elected free agency, and that's where he's sitting right now. I don't think he's "retired", but no one appears to be banging down his door.
  13. Meh, you're pretty much guaranteed 200 innings from Livan, but you're also guaranteed something near a 5 ERA ... I could think of worse guys to have as a 5th starter, but I don't think he's worth giving up anything of value for.,
  14. I think they should employ a volleyball-esque shift after each inning, to keep them as flexible as possible.
  15. Generally, promotions like these happen after the minor league all-star break. Given that Gamel and LaPorta aren't necessarily on a fast-track from a need point of view, I would expect this to be the case.
  16. I guess I don't think KC would have any interest in acquiring expensive or arby-eligible players... Especially with Hall's and Hardy's stock, seemingly at their lowest points right now.
  17. It's the fact that the slices are more exaggerated in the corner spots which makes it more difficult to play (from a mental point of view). The only thing that's really easier about it is the fact that there's less ground to cover. What else is there? CF is regarded of the toughest to play because of the speed requirement... Yes, the CF has the responsibility to call off the other outfielders when they're involved in a play ... but meh, I don't think Braun would screw that up. link "Winn is plenty fast to cover ground in center field, and it's the easiest outfield position from which to read the ball's flight."
  18. The fact that there's more ground to cover only means that the requirement to play it is speed, right? If that's the case, and if the slices are tougher in LF and RF, why wouldn't Braun be an above-average CFer? I certainly think he's got the speed to cover it (although, admittedly, perhaps Hart would be the better man for the job, because of that reason).
  19. Do you think CF is a more demanding position than LF, from a pure skill point of view? He sure has the speed and athleticism to handle it.
  20. There are many who believe that centerfield is the easiest of all three positions to play (ball doesn't slice as funny), assuming you have speed. So, if that's true, then I see no reason why Braun could (eventually) handle CF, after Cameron's departure.
  21. Paul Bunyan's Dan's Minocqua Fudge Kayak Rental Paul Bunyan's is awesome.
  22. That's actually a photo of atlas holding the earth up.
  23. I had to hide a post or two in this thread because posters are jumping over the line of being condescending towards other users. This is the last warning on this one before I start issuing strikes or just shut the thread down. It's fine to disagree, it's not fine to be teh jerkz about it.
