  1. Well, that was bad, but on the plus side, Suppan vs, Zambrano tomorrow. Yuch!
  2. Good job by Fontenot to cut that thing off...I thought he was going to let it go for a second.
  3. Actually, the Brewers play StL after this (Cubs play ATL, then StL), but that's beside the point. Can't really say their chances rest on those series. If they go 3-4 or 4-3 over that stretch, nothing really changes. Even if they only win a game or two, pretty much their chances rest on ARam's ahoulder and Marmol's arm. If those two aren't able to play the second half effectively, the Cubs are done. If they are, they have a grat shot, almost regardless of what happens in the next 10 days (assuming of course they don't go 1-9 or 0-10).
  4. Bill Hall?!?!?!?!?!? Someone send DM Theo's phone number.
  5. Lead off htting infielder that seems to have lost his starting job, and is signed through next year at about $9M (too much?), so I assume the Red Sox would be happy to get rid of much of the contract. Not a young man anymore. Not sure I'm crazy about th idea, but interesetd in others' thoughts.
  6. He did primarily bat lead off the past several years and can play 2B. Been really awful this year though. Can I assume the Cubs will end up on the hook for his salary ($4M) assuming they can't swing a trade?
  7. I used to really like Craig Monroe in his Tiger days, but boy has he been bad since. Makes me wonder if his name won't be appearing on one of those lists soon.
  8. Truly most of the construction hassles are immediately north and south of the state line, so you are going to have a real tough time avoiding those in any way. If you do decide to drive all the way, get off at Peterson, go east and take that to Ravenswood and head south. Ravenswood ends for a bit when it becomes one-way and you have to pick it up again if you wanted to continue on. You mightg think I'm nuts when you are on Ravenswood, but it does a good job getting you in there. You'll have to walk a ways but I have never not been able to find a spot on the street.
  9. I tend to agree. I just don't see this one going well.
  10. Meh...Its big because it is 4 games against the team that is theoretically your top competitor for the division, and anything but a 2 game split will have a relatively big impact in the standings. It will not have much impact on what happens for either team on Monday however. The Cubs starting pitching appears far stronger than the Brewers. Way, way more than what happens in this series (even if the Brewers were to sweep), the Cubs' fate will be determined by ARam's ability to come back and play well, and Carlos Marmol returning to form. If either one of those things does not happen, the Cubs are probably toast. If both happen, the Brewers are probably toast. Almost exactly half the season left after this series.
  11. I would assume they don't really plan to use him soon anyway. Seems like just a bit of a backup plan. Miles just went on the DL (and is bad), Ramirez status is uncertain at best, and Fontenot is bad.
  12. It is very difficult to argue against McGehee/Counsell getting AB's ahead of Gamel at the moment they way those two are hitting, but in th elast 7 days Gamel has 7 AB's, and bill Hall has 9. I have a much harder time with that.
  13. What a way to enter the ASB...4 against the Cubs then come home to play the Cardinals and Dodgers. If the standings look roughly the way they do today on July 12th, I'll be thrilled. Give me 6 of the next 11 and I'll be pretty pleased.
  14. Keep going...you are pretty much talking about their two best players, both signed to very reasonable contracts through next season without returning any significant pitching (the thing Cleveland needs most). Shapiro should be fired and perhaps shot of he makes that deal.
  15. I kinda agree. I have no interest in immediately inserting him into the rotation or anything like that, but he would be basically free, and the Brewers have no SP depth right now. If you can stick him in Nashville, I guess I don't see much downside.
  16. Has there been any updates on Bush? I know they were talking 2-3 weeks which would have him starting mid-next week, but I guess I would assume we are more likely talking after the All Star break.
  17. Wishful thinking of course. Guess I haven't really been paying enough attention to Nationals baseball to see that Guzman isn't really leading off for them lately. My thinking was that Morgan fills the lead off spot, they give the SS job to Gonzalez, clear an $18M contract, get younger, and pick up some building blocks. This is Transaction board stuff, but I think this makes some sense for the Brewers because it fills the lead off need, make Hardy expendable/tradable, and provides plenty of flexibility for next year at SS and 2B depending on what happens with Weeks, Hardy, Escobar, etc. Then again, maybe it would be easier just to go get Freddy Sanchez before the Pirates give him to Jim Hendry for Jake Fox
  18. So does the Nyjer Morgan acquisition make Cristian Guzman available to lead off and play 2B for the Brewers (assuming the Nats have someone to play SS (Gonzalez?)?
  19. Manny Parra has pitched 257 MLB innings over 1 full season plus. Not sure he is really yet a candidate for a change of scenery trade.
