  1. His longest outing this year has been 2.0 IP, and 39 Pitches, and has pitched as much as 2 innings exactly twice. He's not here to start, he's here to take CV's spot in the bullpen.
  2. If you are trading for Claudio Vargas, do you not have to do everything possible to try to make a trade to get something ion return for Cameron, Counsell, etc. You tellin' me Brian Cashman wouldn't love to talk to Doug about Mike Cameron?
  3. LOL! Good lord. What a drag of a season.
  4. Baseball teams? Seriously, I like your theory and it would be awesome for both sides if it worked out that way...even if the Brewers had to pick up half of his remaining contracts or so. That said, I don't see it happening, but here's hoping.
  5. Agreed. I just hope he doesn't just swap places with Gamel though as someone suggested might happen, so he ends up being the one sitting around. That would be the height of insanity.
  6. Beyond the fact that he can't hit, the question would have to be why, and why now? Who's playing time is he going to take if he comes back in in 2 weeks? There certainly must be something more to this story. Just seems kind of odd.
  7. I do find the timing rather interesting, especially with Suppan still listed as the scheduled starter for Saturday, and nobody for Sunday. Obviously CV could start Sunday, but something could be up.
  8. Attendance is the only thing that should influence what they do. Not just for this season, but as you state for years to come.
  9. Never! That's a 12 stepper I never plan to take part in. I know its a long shot, and the steps do pretty much have to happen in order, with Step 2 of course being key to the whole thing.
  10. I don't have a problem. You have a problem.
  11. The optimist in me can't stop thinking (much of it doesn't even seem that far fetched)… Step 1: Win today. ..51-51 - right the ship. Check. Step 2: Acquire a pitcher or two via trade (that can help)… A jolt of energy to the clubhouse Step 3: Take 2 of 3 from SD…53-52 - optimism building Step 4: Lose 2 of 3 to the Dodgers…54-54 - bummer but a successful West Coast trip Step 5: Take 2 of 3 in Houston…56-55 Step 6: Win 4 straight and take 5 of 6 from SD & Hou…61-56 Step 7: Dave Bush returns. Help with a 5-2 road trip (PIT & WAS)…66-58 Step 8: 4-2 Home stand (CIN/PIT)…70-60 Step 9: September call ups include Escobar and Gamel Step 10: Go 8-8 vs. Cubs and Cards in Sept…78-68 Step 11: Phillies wrap up their division early, helping Brewers to win 3 of 4 at MP…81-79 Step 12: 4-2 @ home and 3-3 on road in remaining games…88-74 That should be at or near WC winning potential (Looking at their schedule, I think the Cardinals may win the division somewhat comfortably). If it isn't quite there, that's ok with me. Meaningful games in the last weekend is still pretty good for this season. Of course if they don't get past Step 1, the rest of it means nothing. If they can't beat the Nationals at home with their best pitcher on the mound, they are hopeless.
  12. I just happened to look at the upcoming probables. The brewers have nobody listed on Sunday (Still show Suppan Saturday), and Corriea is listed for the Padres.
  13. That's all fine and good, but many of those guys are also better at their jobs than the Brewers current pitchers. That's the point. Cameron's value as a CF is not what is at issue. The Brewers terrible pitching staff is. There is only so much money to go around and it is gonna be a neck of a lot easier and chaeper to find a CF than it is to find 5 guys who give you a chance to win every day.
  14. I wonder if they might be able to qlwo get their hands on Chad Gaudin in this deal who would be controlled for a couple years as well. Again, not that he is anything spectacular, but he could provide some additional depth this year and next.
  15. Great points hawing...I was just about to mention the economy as well. The Brewers have to feel extremely fortunate for the year they are having, but at the same time have to be somewhat apprehensive about next year. They find themselves in a difficult balancing act (again, caused by the inability to assemble proper pitching talent and depth this past off season). I do think they need to find a way to hang around for the better part of the rest of the season, or it becomes very easy for folks to say CC and the Miracles were a one hit wonder, and the hit didn't even reach the top of the charts.
  16. Well, they will have roughly $40M tied up in Hall, Suppan, Braun and Fielder...that's likely to be about 50% of the payroll. Where should the money be spent? Pitching. if they aren't in on some of the best pitchers, then we can look forward to another .500 or sub-.500 season. Bottom line is they are going to have to come up with about $20-30 million to put towards pitching. I don't see anyway they can do that if they are paying Cameron $10M. Trading Hardy could help, but best case, that would likely leave about $10-15M for C, 2B, 3B, SS, RF, bench and the remainder of the pitching staff, including a closer. Can't be done if they have any designs on competing next year. This is a division that features SP named Carpenter, Lohse, Lilly, Dempster, Zambrano, Oswalt...With the possible exception of the Pirates, I am guessing the Brewers have the least amount of money invested in SP, and that includes the $12-13M they are paying their worst SP in Suppan. Last year they were able to compete because they had a guy or two on that list of names. This year the might have one in Gallardo. If they can't get their SP on par with the Cubs and Cards, they have no shot, so they better be in on the best pitchers via trade or FA, or you can have as many Mike Camerons as you want and its not going to matter. Yet again though, the problem here is not Mike Cameron, it is the $20M+ they are going to be paying Suppan and Hall.
  17. That's right. How could I be expected to remember that? It happened at least 18 hours ago.
  18. I believe this is the reason they won't sell, and will make every effort to make a deal that at least has the appearance of buying (even if in reality they won't really be buying anything), and I commend them for that. As I have said many times, the Attanasio Brewers are extremely sensitive, appreciative and respectful of their customers and make every effort to do right by them. The realize that the attendance numbers they see are not normal for a market like this and they have the ability to keep them up if they do the right things. Conveniently, the Brewers are in SD tomorrow, so its a safe bet you will see/hear Mark A. in the TV/radio booths explaining what they did or did not do. BTW, its the next 24...well 29 hours.
  19. If the Yankees are now interested in Washburn and in need of CF help, isn't there some sort of 3 way deal to be made here? The Brewers have the SS the Mariners want. The Mariners have the SP the Yankees want, and the Yankees have some young pitchers the Brewers (and Mariners) should want. This is very much off the top of my head and admitedly not well thought out, but something along the lines of... Brewers give: Hardy/Cameron/Prospect Brewers get: Phil Hughes/Melky Cabrera Mariners Give: Washburn and something Mariners get: Hardy and something Yankees: Give: Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera Yankees get: Washburn, Cameron and something else Like I said, its rough, and the Yankees would probably be unwilling to deal Hughes in a deal like this, but you get the general idea. The prospects and something else are obviously the keys to making it work. I don't know, maybe I'm just talking like a Cub fan now.
  20. I actually had been meaning to come here and get opinions on batting stance guy because I think it is really stupid.
  21. To take the place of FA to be Mike Cameron, who is still due nearly $4M this season, yes. If the Yankees would accept that deal, you do it in a second. As it stands today, the Brewers CF next year is Jody Gerrut. I love Mike Cameron, but I am not crazy about the idea of paying him another $10M again next year. Too many other places that money needs to be spent.
  22. If you are talking about Bill Hall, good luck. Correia is making about $500K this year. No way the Padres would even consider that trade.
  23. The Brewers have 61 games left, and MLB requires them to have someone pitch 27 outs in each of them. He gets paid next to nothing, and will cost next to nothing. This is a move to be able to play out the rest of the season, and little more.
  24. Well, if he had no involvement or thoughts at all on how the draft impacts the overall makeup of the team/organization, he should be fired immediately.
