  1. I don't really want to post this here as I am sure it belongs in a different thread, but I would venture to guess that Fingers was typically used more than an inning at a time unlike today's closers. He wasn't even really a closer. I think his defined role under the current flawed relief managing "book" would be more of a middle reliever. More akin to Torres and Riske. I'll take it one step further, Fingers was a middle reliever and a closer all rolled into one. He had saves where he came into the game in the 7th inning. I'll take it further still and say that is not necessarily a relevant comparison, as that team scored 87 runs a game, so there likely wasn't as many needs/opportunities. This team...well, as far as the vent portion of this thread goe, let's just say there is room for improvement where the offense is concerned.
  2. I think this sums it up pretty well. I wasn't able to see the game, but Gagne probably wasn't a great choice - I would say Gagne, Maddux, and Castro probably shoulder some of the blame as well. I'm sure Ned did not want to use Torres yesterday, but Riske would appear to have been an option, and perhaps even Turnbow (I think yesterday says it all about Turnbow's place on this team. Adios muchahco!). So probably not a real good move on Ned's part. Again, not having actually seen the game, I wonder if the weather wasn't somewhat of a factor as well...It sounds as if he had trouble finding the strike zone, just as he did on a cool wet opening day. (pared back long quote --1992)
  3. I will? I wasn't aware of that, but thanks for letting me know. We're what, 17 games into the season, and that's the first move that I have actually defended, so I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm thinking you might be wrong. Check that, I am 100% sure. By my count, Ned has cost the Brewers 11 losses and has cost them 6 wins. Not too shaby.
  4. Yep. There sure were. Unfortunatley, NDOG wasn't one of them. Nope, he didn't show up to question it until after the ball left the yard. Convenient, no?
  5. Right. Shouse always gives up home runs and almost never gets the job done in that situation. What a stupid move by Yost. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Why do I get the feeling...check that, why do I know that you would have been here criticizing Yost had he left Suppan in instead of bringing in Shouse to face Votto, and he gave up the home run?
  6. Well, my initial reaction last night was that we have seen him pitch as a Brewer for the last time. Then seeing him after the game, and listening to Ned made me think they'll probably just push him back a few days. Now, reading these comments today, makes me wonder if my initial reaction wasn't the correct one. I am guessing they'll send him for an MRI today, but probably safe to assume they won't say anything publicly until they get home on Monday. I'm very interested to see who they list as the starter tomorrow. Assuming Sheets won't make his next regular turn regardless, do you start Bush or Gallardo tomorrow? Just push everybody back a day?
  7. You actually have that kinda wrong. Dusty didn't say any of those things. He is actually the one who chose not to do anything about it. He was Sosa's biggest supporter and that cost him the respect of a large portion of the team. It was his teammates who were complaining about the boom box, that Dusty chose to ignore. He is the one who insisted on keeping Sosa 3rd in the order, because that's where Sammy wanted to hit. I forget who it was, but there was a pitcher (Kent Merker maybe) who called up to the booth, and went after Steve Stone on other occasions (on a plane and in an elevator) because Stoney actually said negative things about guys during the broadcasts when they played poorly. Dusty just let that happen, and did nothing to get the player to knock it off. You are right that he had no control over his team, because half the team had absolutely no respect for him.
  8. I thought about that as well, but quickly realized the two cannot really be compared where injuries are concerned. I can't recall a single time Zambrano has been on the DL, although I have to believe he has been at one point or another. Sheets...well he's been there quite a bit.
  9. If that's the case, I guess that means that the win is on Ned then, huh? Good to see you giving credit where credit is due.
  10. One minor point...that is not a diagnosis. They have not said he has a tricep strain...he simply left the game with soreness in the tricep, so those comparisons may or may not be relevant.
  11. The beauty of the Internet...I can back track big time, and seeing him back in the dugout just now, I think I'm gonna go ahead and do that - although I admit to still being a bit concerned. Any and all Wuss comments are welcome but will be ignored.
  12. Well his presence in the bullpen is a good sign, that I may be wrong on this (Please let me be wrong on this). I'm sure they'll do an MRI tomorrow, so we probably won't hear much one way or the other until Sunday.
  13. I'll throw it out there right now...watching that video of his last better/leaving teh mound again, I'd be willing to bet we have seen Sheets' last game as Brewer.
  14. He did make 3 consecutive starts without an injury. Not sure what more the Brewers could ask for. Please get him healthy and trade him.
  15. Tricep tightness...Sounds oddly similar to the "upper back tightness" he left a game with about a year and a half ago. Of course that turned out to be a torn muscle in his shoulder (the Brewers can refer to it as a back muscle all they want, but the injury was clearly in the shoulder). What's this going to turn out to be? Hopefully just a little tightness, but Sheets history would probably suggest otherwise.
  16. What a joke. At least he isn't injury prone. I look forward to his return after the All Star break.
  17. Among other stupid traditions without any real meaning at Wrigley. The ridiculous abomination that the 7th inning stretch has become comes to mind.
  18. Well seeing the way throwing garbage caught on at Wrigley - you may be right. Although those won't be the numbers used to tell this story of yesterday, they will be the actual number of balls thrown on the field after the opposing team hits a home run. It's gonna happen!
  19. 1. No. 2. No. 3. No. 4. No.
  20. There's no question Gagne is a mojor key, and a major question mark. I just think SS demonstrated a fandamental lack of understanding of the Brewers' bullpen situation by including Turnbow in his comments.
  21. I gotta say I don't see Turnbow in Milwaukee on Monday, and Parra going back down is looking more and more like a possibility.
  22. Just throwing this out there. Heard John Dewan a couple weeks ago talking about what if anything you can get from the first 10 games of a team's season... If a team starts 4-6, 5-5, 6-4, you can't tell anything. Teams that start 3-7 or worse, finish below .500 80% of the time. Teams that start 7-3 or better (which the Cardinals did), average 92 wins, and finish above .500 80% of the time. Obviously they could be in the 20%, but history would indicate they could be in for a decent year.
  23. If you plan to park, but your parking in advance. Preferred is $15 day of game/$18 on weekends, but only $12 in advance. General parking is $10 on weekends, but only $8 during the week or in advance.
  24. Miller High Life Games For six select dates during the 2008 season (April 9, May 30, June 18, July 11, August 18 and September 9), Terrace Reserved seats will be just $6. This promotion may not be combined with any other Milwaukee Brewers promotion.
  25. Tuesday 4/22, all seats $26 or more are half price - just because.
