  1. it seems like Ned is making decisions based more on the desire not to lose There also still seems to be a desire to not hurt anybody's feelings. I think he doesn't want to upset Mench by showing no faith in him to ever hit against RHP. There's no room for that kind of stuff. This isn't little league.
  2. Jeez. I never thought I'd be longing to see Dessens back in a Brewer uniform. Capellan is garbage.
  3. So the double off the righty in the 10th means nothing? Compared to the rest of this season, and his career? Pretty much.
  4. Dear Jose Capellan, Seriously. You suck. Please stop.
  5. Good thing Ned doesn't know what he's doing, and let's Mench hit against a righty. Just because Mench got lucky, and finally got a hit off a RHP doesn't necessarily make it a smart decision to let him hit against them...
  6. What just happened? Mench? Is this real????
  7. Giving up one hit is all you can take huh? Tough crowd in these parts. Yeah. That one hit is the only thing people don't like about Jose Capellan... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  8. Nice inning by Capellan. I guess that doesn't really change the fact that he's a complete tool, though.
  9. Nice reserves to have around. Yep. Counsell and Graffy are excelling now that they are in their proper roles. They weren't cut out to be combined into an everyday 3B, but they are great for pinch hitting, defensive replacements, and spot starting.
  10. I think we should trade Prince for prospects, and let Graffy play 1B. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. Gallardo rocks my world. Move Vargas to the pen. Let Gallardo be the 5th starter, so we can skip some of his starts and keep his innings down.
  12. I think Mench will get the start, and for some reason I have a feeling that (even though he sucks) he is going to have a really good game tomorrow.
  13. When I said in spite of, I meant it sarcastically. Fair enough. I would have meant it literally. I wouldn't want Pierre or Eckstein on my team. I think Gwynn projects similarly to Pierre, although he hasn't been able to steal bases nearly as well.
  14. Doug Jones, I already talked extensively about why I thought Gwynn Jr. was a prospect. While I disagree with your reasoning, I respect that you actually outlined a series of points debating the common criticisms of Gwynn. Do you really think the fact that other teams have been able to win with weak hitters in their lineups is really a good endorsement for Gwynn though? I don't. You actually made the argument that the Cards and Marlins won "in spite" of Eckstein and Pierre. If you're winning in spite of something, that means you'd be better off without it.
  15. You may not consider him much of a prospect, but obviously other people differ. Why do you consider him a prospect? Rather than just throwing out ad hominem arguments, why don't you give reasons why he IS a prospect? The anti-Gwynn crowd has repeatedly given reasons why they don't think he is a strong prospect, including: no power, unproven ability to consitently draw walks, lackluster SB% in spite of speed, and a pretty unimpressive history of minor league offensive numbers in general If you don't agree with these assesments, debate them. Attempting to write off people who don't think highly of Gwynn as "haters" isn't really an argument, but still seems to be the argument of choice for many pro-Gwynn posters.
  16. I just don't see Gwynn having a place on this team as long as Hall is a Brewer. Moving Hall to a corner spot to make room for Gwynn in CF would, in effect, be choosing Gwynn over a corner outfielder. Any average corner outfielder should probably be able to offer more offensive production than Gwynn, even if Gwynn reaches his "ceiling" as a hitter.
  17. Okay, so I'm an idiot. The countdown I keep seeing is our magic number to winning the division, right? If so, why is 163 the base number? I would have thought it was (162 - Brewer wins - least losses in the division). Does bumping it to 163 figure out when we win it rather than tie? And if so Brian, the Cards only have 38 losses.
  18. Wow. I can't believe Suppan is going to get a Win for his performance tonight.
  19. If Corey Hart keeps hitting with this much power, do you move him to the middle of the lineup so he can hit with more runners on? Personally, I love him in the leadoff spot. His OBP is great, his speed is great, his SB% is solid, he usually puts together quality at-bats (something Weeks can struggle with), and I don't think power is "wasted" in the lead-off spot as much as people think. I like the tone he sets at the top of the order.
  20. So apparently all of that Hart love that was being thrown around this place may have been justified....... He'll NEVER be any good. He keeps his back elbow too low when he hits! His legacy with the Brewers will be a long foul ball during his first call up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. Sometimes, I can't even believe how awesome Corey Hart is. Power, gets on base, speed, good defense. The man is amazing.

  23. I think I like Vargas more than Bush this year so far. Yes, but I'll take Bush in the long run anyday. ...but he gets it done. Recently he has. Throughout most of his career, he hasn't. That's probably a more reliable source for what to expect from him. He seems to become a different pitcher when runners get on... That most likely can be chalked up to a lot of luck. It's also unlikely that he can sustain that ability.
  24. Around the all star break, deal Vargas for a decent RH corner outfielder if necessary. I would like to see this happen as well. I'd imagine that Vargas' trade value is as high right now as it's probably ever going to be. There are probably lots of teams that would like to get their hands on a guys who is 5-1 with an ERA under 4. Those numbers don't at all reflect his true abilities, but there are sure to be some GM's that will be very impressed by them.
