  1. I'm really happy for Turnbow, talk about a guy who needed something positive! Way to go Prince, two bombs off an outstanding lefty! Ned deserves credit, it was a gutsy call to go with Turnbow like that, freshest arm available, or not.
  2. It's the Cubbies' turn to play extras. Wow, both closers blew the save in this one - too bad they didn't have Turnbow!
  3. If the Brewers did have a significant injury to a corner outfielder, I would not surprised to see Matt LaPorta in Milwaukee. Obviously, that's not what the organization wants to do, but he may be the best option, if Braun or Hart miss significant time.
  4. That's all great dlk, but I still don't take away a good feeling from what I saw. This game looked exactly like so many of them from the second half of last season - they opened a nice lead, but the starter left early, the D let them down, and the bullpen looked gassed. I'm glad that Mota pitched well today of course, but look at how many appearances and IP those guys are racking up. It's been weird run of luck, they've had an unusually high number of extra inning games, and they had a starter come out with an injury, but I don't like what I'm seeing at all for the relievers. I know they hit today, but I've never thought the offense wouldn't come around, I just don't want to see another pile of blown leads.
  5. I liked Gabe as a bench player, I wish him well.
  6. The only good thing about today is that the Brewers actually won the game. The defense almost killed them today, as it did yesterday, and at this rate, the bullpen doesn't stand a chance. This many extra inning games, matched with this many short starts just doesn't give the relievers a prayer of staying fresh. Parra absolutely looks like a guy who could use a few starts at AAA, but there's no chance of that at this point. Heck, even if that was possible, Bush looks like a guy who could use a few starts in AAA too.
  7. I agree with Dr Wood, the Brewers have played a tough schedule, while they are short-handed. If they make it through April without falling on their faces -I'll take it. If they're actually a few games better than that, that's one heck of a statement to the league.
  8. The pitch to Hart was at least close to the strike zone, those two pitches to Braun were absolutely terrible.
  9. Oops, I didn't word that very well. The tickets are available for anyone, a portion of the proceeds go to the group. I've got the link to purchase and get the discount, if anyone wants it.

  11. "Fans Across America", a charitable foundation which helps the families of seriously ill children, is offering Upper Infield Reserve seats to the May 4 Diamondbacks - Mets game for $10 each, with no limit. If anyone is interested, PM me, and I'll email you the link for the discount.
  12. Villanueva and Parra absolutely must step up now - these short starts are just toxic. With Sheets already in question, and so many IP already hung on the bullpen, those two young men need to provide some stability. Oh, and no extra inning games for a while probably wouldn't be a bad thing for the bullpen either...wow.
  13. Sweeps, using Gagne 4 straight is like asking your starter to throw 125 pitches. If you had a guy pitch 8 shutout, then go back out for the ninth and give it up....would you boo the pitcher, or question the decision to leave him in there?
  14. That's a shame. I can get over losing one game in a series very quickly, but if we're already at a point where guys aren't sharp, or aren't available due to overuse - this could wind up looking a lot like last year.
  15. Awful choice by Ned, he's stuck in that "Gagne is our closer" routine, which completely discounts which move makes the most sense. That seemed like a great time to use Riske.
  16. I first became aware of Marzano when Topps added cards of the 1984 Olympians to its 1985 set, Marzano was on that team. Gone at age 45, following a fall down a flight of stairs, and possibly a heart attack, what a shame.
  17. Here's to Yo putting it to 'em, and the Brewers coming off a nasty road trip with six wins!
  18. Awesome job of taking this game right back, after the Reds had tied it up. The ump was the same all day, and neither team liked it - immaturity on the part of the Reds - I have no sympathy.
  19. I thought it might be fun to pull this thread up right now, with the Cards in first place. FWIW, I absolutely, positively, do not buy the Cardinals as a contender for the playoffs this season.
  20. The team must either think this is a short-term thing, or at least that he can't make it worse by continuing to pitch - they knew about it, and let him go out there last night anyway. Ned said in his post game that he had known about this, and had planned to let Ben go six innings last night, as a precaution, but he pulled him after five, because they had the lead. For one thing, this probably explains why they wanted another arm in the bullpen right now.
  21. Hi 39. First off, you're right, at this point in his development, Brewer has plenty of time to prove he'll be a major league SS. I would not move him from the position right now, but if his defense is still this shaky when he starts to get to AA and beyond, I would absolutely move him. Whatever happens, I want to see the Brewers have his position figured out before he reaches Milwaukee. The organization has proven that they'll give young players plenty of time to play their way into or out of a position, as they are with Gamel right now. One other note, yes, we'd all be players if we could, but be careful about discounting what a writer might have to say. A lot of writers are connected directly to scouts, GMs, coaches, etc - what they write may be much more than just "their opinion."
  22. I think every GM who's ever lived has spent most of his time worrying about pitching. There's no telling yet if the Brewers have a rotation good enough to win it, because we haven't seen Gallardo yet, we don't have enough to go on with Villy or Parra, and there are questions around Sheets, until proven otherwise. Which makes the Brewers pretty much like every other team in MLB. There isn't a team anywhere that isn't counting on young guys, banking on old guys, or hoping to resurrect someone else's castoff. I'd say, on paper, the Brewers have better options than most teams - now let's see if they can do it.
  23. According to FSN today, Gagne's fastball was topping out at 90 MPH, I don't know if that was accurate, but I never saw a reading higher than that - and he didn't have command of his fastball either. He looks like a different guy when he's mixing his pitches, when he tries to throw fastballs consistently, he doesn't do as well, and he drives me nuts. Since his awful Opening Day performance, he's allowed one run in five appearances, I'm sure people will continue to dump on him, but he's doing the job.
