  1. They sent the Brewers to Wrigley, and for an encore, they sent Arizona to Cincinnati....where they are currently under a rain delay. Is there an award for this?
  2. Hart, solo shot, after Hall Kd to end the prior inning.
  3. Once in a while there are times like these - when I am glad I work for myself.
  4. Something about "reduced to 80%" just doesn't make me happy.
  5. It's too bad it's ending like this, but a great season for the Badgers.
  6. Plastic packaging again! Wow, this time I cut my hand. OK already, the item is secure.
  7. I think the Cubs are the safe pick, but nothing more than that. The Brewers actually have more talent, but with it, they also have more questions to answer at this point. There's no telling what Sheets will do, and Gallardo, Villanueva and Parra are all very short on MLB experience, so the only Brewers' SP who's really projectable right now is Suppan. Right away you can see that Milwaukee's rotation could be outstanding, but when Soup is the only known quantity, you can't just give the Brewers the edge right now. The bullpen is the same way, on talent, the Brewers could be absolutely dominant, but there are lots of miles on most of the arms out there, and many of the roles are not yet clearly defined. It's fair to worry about Gagne at this point, and also Torres, Mota and Turnbow - that's one amazing batch of ability, but not one of those guys is coming off a complete season, so it's fair to question that part of the team right now. There is no doubt that Milwaukee has more power than Chicago, and I think it's on the Cubs to prove they can score with Milwaukee, the same way it's on the Brewers to show they can outpitch the Cubs. On talent and upside - Milwaukee. On projectability through this point - Chicago. I think the Cubs should be favored by 2-3 games right now, but the Brewers could absolutely win the division. Don't be surprised if both teams make the playoffs.
  8. When asked about Canseco's allegations, George Steinbrenner went with the old, "Consider the source" answer. Um, George, Mr Canseco may be a sleaze who only told the truth to sell some books, but he did in fact tell the truth, which kicked the door open for Congressional hearings, the sport's new drug testing policy, and the Mitchell Report. You can spare me the whole, "Leave Alex alone" routine.
  9. I've seen Patterson's name in more than one thread, so I thought I'd point this out - Patterson can request his release if he's not in the majors by June 15.
  10. Patterson signed a minor league deal with Texas yesterday.
  11. Yes, this concerns me, it seems like every spring Ned has a renewed commitment to stealing bases. Maybe I'm imagining that, but it does seem like he always starts the year with a lot of double steals, hit-and-runs, etc, then backs off because it isn't working.
  12. John Patterson has already signed with Texas.
  13. Vargas actually cleared waivers, they could have sent him to AAA, but chose to release him. Wow.
  14. I would assume Villanueva will start now, and Parra will go to AAA when Gallardo is back. That's all well and good, but the question is...if we need another starter at some point, who will we turn to?
  15. In addition to Fukudome, the one obvious change in their lineup is having Soto for the full season.
  16. don't see how you could lose here, unless your buddy happens to be my wife It's clearly not for me to say, but this line may warrant special consideration.
  17. It's working for me, maybe you have to register for that site. In any event, here's how bad it is.... One week before the March 31 season opener, the club remained undecided on nearly half the bullpen, the backup catcher, a starting left fielder - and, oh yeah, every single infield position. When asked about any of the positions in flux, Manager Bruce Bochy issued a default response: "We're going to huddle up and talk about that."
  18. I agree with some of what you're saying, there's no way Villanueva doesn't belong in the rotation, but I do think Cameron is the best choice this team has for the second spot in the lineup. The point there is OBP, which Cameron actually does better than a lot of our guys, strikeouts or not. I think you'll see just the opposite of your prediction for Fielder, he'll hit with plenty of baserunners this year. The only other decent choice to bat second would be Hart, but then you'd have no 5 hitter, and Braun would never see a fastball.
  19. This could get interesting. We all know the Giants are a mess, with too many old players, and very few answers outside of Cain and Lincecum. Even so, I wouldn't expect a team to be basically drawing names from a hat this close to the start of the season. I'm glad to be able to debate the future of Escobar and the worthiness of Vargas. http://www.mercurynews.com/giantsheadlines/ci_8676052
  20. If you look at the Tigers, they should have a great offense, and they've got some good starting pitchers, but right now their bullpen is a mess. Jim Leyland is on record saying he'd like to see a deal for bullpen help, which I believe will happen. I don't expect a major move, because Detroit traded half its farm system to the Braves and Marlins. As the Brewers trim pitchers, I could see something minor happening here.
  21. I wonder if Detroit will pursue Lofton as a short-term answer while Granderson is out?
  22. My guess is, if the team can keep one guy with a deal like this, they will keep Ryan Braun.
  23. Not quite 20 million per year, which I guess is about right. It's good to be in the Cabrera family tonight. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3307289
  24. I love watching this team, great effort, great balance, and the ability to adjust to what they or their opponents are doing in any given game. If a team is cold from the outside, deny the inside, if they get hot later, play tight on the guards. Michigan State had half its team foul out because the Badgers saw that they weren't adjusting to the officials, so they went right at them. K State missed a lot of open threes, because the Badgers defended the paint, and made them prove they could score from the outside...which they never did. It's not luck, it's brains, and balance. Outstanding. Deal with it America.
