  1. Yes, there were other guys I would have cut before Wang, and yes I think the 40-man will be much more interesting in about two years than it is right now. The most disappointing aspect for me is, that is how I feel, and still, I can't really argue against cutting Wang either, based on the way he's pitched. That's a lot of dead weight right now.
  2. I don't see any reason not to do this, even if it doesn't work, it's a low-cost attempt to fill an obvious hole.
  3. Victor Roache has been promoted to AA.
  4. Trent Clark's deal is for 2.7M, which is just a few thousand dollars over slot for that pick.
  5. Logan, the high school kids who really should sign and get going, DO know they've been scouted. Scouts are all over the Perfect Game showcases, etc, which these kids participate in. A high school kid who might have gone in round 27 today might be affected, but the kid who was going in round five, has absolutely heard from the teams who are serious about him.
  6. Fixing the draft... By all means, shorten this thing. 25 rounds is the most they should have, in my opinion, less is better. Players declare for the draft...gosh, does that work? It seems to have ruined the NFL and the NBA...or something. Do it. Get medicals to the teams before the draft. That nonsense that happened with Brady Aiken really needs to go away. Teams needed to ask permission to see his medicals, and then, only some people could see them, if they knew the secret knock? Hey Kid...go look for work, if you don't want to play the game. Type One Diabetes discovered after the draft? Yeah, thanks for helping folks out, MLB. International players make their way into the MLBPA just like everyone else - they should enter through the same door anyone else does. Don't give the 28-year-old free agency on the way in, give him free agency in three years if you want, but don't send him up here with all the leverage in the world - that's backwards, and it obviously favors the wealthiest teams. A lot has happened to make the system better, finally, but they are nowhere near, "done" - this system stinks. This kid went to a JUCO to get back in the draft sooner, that kid will only sign for X amount, or he'll go to college - why in the world would anyone connected to this industry want to give leverage like that to the bottom of the talent pool? Why do I think the US Congress oversaw the development of this thing?
  7. Yet another example of why the draft process still needs major work. The Brewers had zero chancing of signing Schwarz, and they knew it, but they had picks to use, because there are 40 rounds, so they took him, because, "why not?" What a complete waste of time and energy, and an unnecessary tease for fans. Shorten it - now, and clean it up so the kids who won't sign this year are not in the pile.
  8. Mitch Ghelfi and Jordan Desguin both say they have not decided whether they'll sign. I tweeted Charles Galiano after another draft pick told me he'd be signing, I asked Galiano if he was headed to Montana - he favorited the tweet, but he didn't answer the question.
  9. When asked directly, McDowell indicated he has not decided whether or not to sign with Milwaukee, and now we see he's still going to the Cape Cod League.
  10. This is the right move for both Gatewood and Harrison - remember how young they are, and remember how raw they are. When you talk about taking teenagers with upside, and you pick towards the middle of the round - you'd better have patience. Players like these are what the minor leagues were invented for - they need time and repetition, and a lot of it. Gatewood has big power potential, and a swing that every scout in the world said was too long. Harrison is an electric athlete, who was a three sport star in high school, which means he never focused solely on baseball - he has to develop his, "baseball skills." The Brewers knew they were pushing these two when they put them in Appleton this year, they rolled the dice, believing these two would overcome the mental/emotional beating that would come with failing while they learn. A step back to Helena was no doubt in the cards this whole time. That's not a bad thing, and it's not a big deal. Helena for the rest of this year, and Appleton again next year, if they look like this again then...that is when I'd get concerned.
  11. Between signed players, and those who have stated they'll enroll in college, we're at 20 players now, halfway through the list. Keep in mind, players who are participating in the College World Series can't sign until they're done.
  12. Trading Ramirez for Niese actually costs the team money...it COSTS THE TEAM MONEY, it doesn't save anything, because Niese is signed for next year too, guaranteed. Niese is not pitching well, and there are plenty of scouts who think something isn't right with him - they do not trust his shoulder. Ramirez for Niese...please tell me, where is the positive for Milwaukee?
  13. 1. Teams think there may be something up with Niese's shoulder. 2. Aramis is due 9M the rest of the way, Niese is due 9M, next year, adding him saves nothing.
  14. The Brewers will bring Clark to Miller Park, for the dog and pony show before they officially announce his signing. He'll do bp, meet the team, put the Brewers cap on for the cameras, etc. Numbers won't come out for a bit, but some of these guys already know where they've been assigned...I'll take that as a pretty good clue as to who has agreed to terms. This morning, Ray Montgomery said, "It's a pretty safe bet that he, (Clark), will be part of the family."
  15. I know al very well, he's going to college. Well, of course he is, I mean....who signs with the CUBS?
  16. This is why the draft process drives me nuts. The Brewers can't offer Hooper big money at this point, and he's already said he's going to college...this is a waste of time. Shorten the draft, and get rid of all these rounds of kids who will never sign, it is woefully inefficient, and silly.
  17. We just lost a good friend, who had been our company accountant for years. I hope you'll watch this. http://www.wpmoutdoors.com/#!trending-video-featured/c1jmd
  18. Tyler is in extended spring training, he'll either be assigned to Brooklyn or Savannah, to open the second half.
  19. That's a different topic, but don't think the discussion of protective headgear for pitchers is anywhere close to over.
  20. The kid comes up and allows one run through seven innings...how many times have the Brewers' veteran pitchers done that this season? Heck, how many times have they gotten through seven?
  21. The team announced the selection of Iskenderian, saying, "We would like him listed as a third baseman", which tells you an immediate issue. "What position is he?" He played shortstop and second base, and he isn't at all the power threat you'd think of as a third baseman. This is unfair of me, but my first thought is, "This player will be used to fill a hole in the minor leagues."
  22. I like that pick...a Nigerian from Canada....hey, why not? http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/03/20/demi-orimoloye-baseball-africa-mlb
