  1. AA, Hooper insists he's going to college.
  2. Patrick, I think Brantley is a solid compare. Yes, the skills are right there, but will he develop more than average power, and which outfield spot fits him best? I see why you mentioned Brantley here.
  3. Clark is a solid pick, I forgot he was there, because I hadn't expected him to get that far. Upside, yes, lefty bat, yes.
  4. There are plenty of players here who I like, the Brewers have a lot to pick from here. I'd take a hitter, unless they're ok with Aiken, if it's a college starter, he needs to be under slot.
  5. All of those college pitchers are right there in front of the Brewers, if that's truly what they want - I hope it isn't. I like Betts, Cameron, Hayes and Whitley, and if the medicals checked out, Aiken and Allard. There are six guys right there I'd be happy with, with only two picks in the way....ok, ok, it'll be Kaprielian.
  6. I like Josh Naylor, but that's a real curveball, I didn't see him going for at least ten more picks, and I had left him out of round one.
  7. Well, that just figures - I like Ian Happ. I was afraid he'd slide to the Cardinals, so I'd have to hate him, instead, he's a Cub - just lovely.
  8. I'm sure I'll fall way off any minute here, but I have five of the first six picks correct. I can't get the next one right, because the player I had going to Boston went already. http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=1199
  9. It's a great year to be a shortstop - three straight to start the draft.
  10. Last year we used the Draft Pick Discussion threads that are pinned to the top of the page for "In-Draft Discussion". Assume the same again this year? Also, couldn't agree more on Harold Reynolds, he is going to make every player sound like they will be ready for big league action by this year's trade deadline. Yes, please, once the picks start coming for the Brewers, please discuss in the threads that are pinned on the page.
  11. Plush, it's not something I would ever advocate, but it would be easy to, "pull off", if a team would actually make that move. You could just pick a high school kid, who is a strong college commit, and offer him slot to sign - if he takes it, great, you got him, and if not, the pick is protected, and you have another pick the next year. I do not believe that was why Pittsburgh took Mark Appel three years ago, but he had been very clear that he wasn't going to sign, which was the main reason he didn't go first in that draft. The Pirates took him 8th, he did not sign, and they had two picks the next year. The Astros had offered six million, in predraft conversation, which Appel turned down - knowing this, Pittsburgh still took him, and offer him 3.8 million....obviously, he declined. When it comes to the baseball draft, never assume a scout won't say it, or a team won't do it.
  12. I'd rather him than Funkhouser that's for sure... I'll take it.
  13. That's certainly an interesting wrinkle, isn't it? A team drafts a kid, and holds the line and what they'll pay, because either they get him at their price, or they have a bigger pile of cash to use in a deeper draft next time around. I can just imagine the uproar if Milwaukee failed to sign their top pick this year, but it would be a lot of fun on here next June.
  14. I apologize...I'm only mildly into the MLB draft. So if this is true, would the idea be that they could take some guys that have fallen a bit in the later rounds and then overpay them? Which was sorta similar to what we did last year? Yes, that's the idea. We're not talking about taking a kid who should have gone in round five, in the first round, this is taking someone who was pegged to go 10-20 picks later. The idea is, you're betting that holding some money back, will allow you to draft and sign 1-2 kids who otherwise would have turned you down, to go to college. If you get it right, you come out with a better haul through round two than you would have if you played it by the book. One the one hand, it's a sign of teams learning how to work the system, on the other hand, it shows how much air this process has in it. We'll have guys taken in round five, specifically because their college eligibility is used up, so they'll come cheap, and we'll have guys taken in round one, because they signed, "below slot." Fix it. Best player, next pick, move on - this is about distributing talent, it's not a carnival game.
  15. Here's a quote from some guy named Patrick Ebert: On 2016... “It could be one of those draft years where the talent is just incredible,” Ebert said. “It stacks up heavier in pitching right now with the prep class just ridiculous and the college class almost as ridiculous. It could be one of those once-every-10-years types of classes.”
  16. Hooper tweeted tonight that he is 100% on his commitment to UCLA, saying, "I can't wait to get down to Los Angeles." BCD, I'll bet you had a lot of fun putting all of that together, thanks for contributing your opinions!
  17. I'm not sure what to think of Happ. I understand why some people like him, and I like the fact that he's a switch hitter and had a very good OBP this year (.492), walking 49 times in 250 PAs. He also struck out 49 times; not terrible, but it's not good to strike out once every five PA's in college. On top of that, I'm not real big on drafting corner OFs that high unless they are head/shoulders above anyone at a premium position. You can move guys to corner OF (Braun, Coulter) who don't make it at more premium positions. I don't know that he's head and shoulders above some of the pitchers or catchers that are projected to be there at #15. Exactly how I feel from what I seen. He's a 20s to competive balance pick in my opinion now. As I'm searching for video I seen some more Demi O video of recent. His stance that I picked on narrowed a little giving him more lower body sync with his top. He's still not Wow, but when I'd have ranked him below the Happ MIFs contact types, Id probably consider him equal to them now with more power potential or a higher upside. It's like someone told him what I was seeing in earlier videos and he slightly corrected it. Immediately hitting more line drives vs grounders/foul balls. The "issue" for Happ is - what position will he play? I think, if teams knew he could handle second base, he'd go ahead of the Brewers' pick, but if he's an outfielder, does he have enough power for left field? I like him a lot, but if he slides, that will be why.
  18. Exactly. Do you see how loose and goofy baseball's draft system really is? The first pick should be the best player, etc, but this year we even have rumors of the top pick being a "signable" guy, allowing the Diamondbacks to spend more later. I hate the system - period. It's what we have to work with, and I still love to follow the draft, so here we are. Last year the Brewers took a kid, "they" said was pick 25-35, maybe they'll do it again.
  19. Specific to Thornburg, I have no idea why the team has left him where he is, but I don't mind Jungmann getting a start. I'm glad, at least, that the team has been getting some different guys to Milwaukee, to get a look at them - why not? Someone will fill Lohse's spot in the rotation, no later that Opening Day, 2016, and there will be turnover in the bullpen too, to replace Broxton and Cotts - opportunity, young men.
  20. The players have been trying to get this for a while now, I know when I talked to Mandy Coolbaugh after her husband's death, she told me the players always have their own families sit behind the netting, or back away from the field. I realize it would be a major change, but I think it should happen. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/boston-red-sox-fenway-park-mlb-broken-bat-injured-fan-safety-netting-060715
  21. I'm not at all convinced that Segura wouldn't land Matz. Reilly, you may be right, but the Mets have more options on the mound right now than they have in the field, and that will keep them from getting where they're trying to go. Before you even talk about getting Matz for Segura, there are two big issues to deal with. 1. Do the Mets really go big and chase a guy like Tulowitzki? If they do, we're out, Matz or not. 2. Will the Brewers let go of Segura? So far, they're saying no, his trade value will stay high for a while, so the team can sit, if they decide that's best.
  22. It says a lot about Wright's status.
  23. Per Ken Rosenthal, the Mets were in MN, watching Jean Segura and Aramis Ramirez. He says the teams haven't spoken, "in weeks", but we also know the Brewers told teams they'd be waiting until after the draft to start selling.
