  1. @bballintheblood #KyleLohse, last ten starts, 5-1, 2.3 ERA, 0.84 WHIP. This is the pitcher teams should be after right now.
  2. The Red Sox and Dodgers made a big one last season too.
  3. I think when he was drafted, he was viewed like Aramis, or Carlos Lee offensively, a really good hitter, but not elite. Defensively, the question has been where to play him, if he sticks at third, then I'll leave the over at Aramis. He was thought to be a kid who would hit for average, and at least acceptable power, so far, the acceptable power is there, but the average hasn't been. He's young, and he's had to work through some injuries, so I think there's a realistic chance of him reaching his potential with the bat. The under, I suppose, is Gamel. The kid who looked like it, then wasn't.
  4. My biggest concern going forward is this... The cheating stinks, and Braun would have taken a beating for it, but it would have died down. The lying, with that press conference so readily available online, has really turned people against Braun. It's the future distraction to the ballclub I'm concerned about. This thing could be a thorn in the Brewers' side for a long time.
  5. The next big chase appears to be for Bud Norris. He's not a world-beater, but he can pitch, and he's cheap. Houston may be in a great position here, because, believe it or not, Jose Veras is having a solid year down there, and he's drawing interest as well. Aren't relief pitchers strange? K-Rod and Veras both took their turns as, "part of the problem" for the 2012 Brewers, and now, they're darlings again.
  6. bcd80, if it's debunked, good, because it made absolutely no sense to me for St Louis to even consider it, much less for the Sox to turn it down.
  7. I'll put the top of the system at: Nelson Taylor After that, Delmonico, Haniger and now Roache are kind of in a pile for me, every one of them has a chance to do well in the major leagues, but since they're all still in the lower half of the system, and Roache has just taken off, I haven't decided how to separate them yet. Arcia may wind up topping the list, he certainly has better physical skills than most prospects, but I'm not in love yet. Coulter is a guy who has not won me over at this point, I don't see him in the same class as these other players, and I'd also put Hellweg and Jungmann ahead of him for sure. Guys who will slide in these rankings at this point...Morris, Gennett and Thornburg. All three are still definitely good prospects, but Gennett has one plus tool, Morris has looked like a platoon guy at AAA, and Thornburg looks like more bullpen than rotation right now. The next big question is...Devin Williams. He's just a baby, but he could wind up being the best pitcher in the system. I like some of the lesser-known arms too...keep these links handy. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=12293 Edit: I left out Jed Bradley, I absolutely hate this, but there's no way I see him in the top ten for this organization at this point. He should be, I hope someday he will be, but right now, he just isn't.
  8. A friend of mine who both works in the game and knows Barry Bonds personally tells me Barry is trying to find a job in the game, and he's being stonewalled. My question is..."If that's how it's going to be, why does Mark McGwire have a job in MLB?"
  9. Take a look at this, you'll see that Boston's 3-6 prospects are all pitchers...this is the team I want to see asking about Lohse. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2013/index.jsp?c_id=bos
  10. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/ct-spt-0724-crain-white-sox-chicago-20130724,0,3745533.story This is why you should never believe a team wouldn't trade a top prospect, and it's also why someone with the White Sox needs a Designated Driver. Alexei Ramirez is about to turn 32, he's signed for two more years, at 22M total, with an option year for 10M, or a 1M buyout. In other words, he's exactly the kind of guy you offer for young talent when you're rebuilding. Keeping Ramirez in Chicago, is like the argument for the Brewers dealing Kyle Lohse...even if he does well, the team is not likely to contend while he's here. Martinez is currently listed by Prospect Watch as the number 27 prospect in baseball, and at worst, he's top 40. If you can get a young arm like that for your 30-something shortstop, in the White Sox' situation...you do it. Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye, but just on it's face, Chicago not taking Martinez from the Cardinals doesn't make any sense.
  11. For those of you who are overly concerned about Delmonico's ability to stick at third base, he just moved to third base this year, it's WAY too early to worry about him. He has more quickness than you think, Baltimore initially tried him at second base, but they found his feet were not quick enough to turn the double play. He's not a middle infielder, but he's more athletic than a typical first base prospect, so he's getting a shot at third base. He's got plenty of time to become a third baseman, we'll all have to wait and see if he can pull it off.
  12. Melvin says he "is not motivated" to move Lohse or Gallardo, Giants' beat writer says Brewers will "have to be blown away" to deal Lohse. There's no way in the world someone wouldn't want Kyle Lohse, the Brewers have simply set the bar very high, which is the same as not truly making him available. I saw a post from Jayson Stark saying the Brewers were pricing the draft pick they lost when they signed Lohse into their asking price in a deal. We'll see what happens, but if the Brewers keep the bar at the "blow me away" level, they'll probably have Lohse for a while. I'm sure they could get a nice deal for him, just not a stupid one. If Lohse goes, I hope Boston pursues him, they've got a depth of good minor league arms right now.
  13. I like this trade, they addressed a need in the system, and they got a kid who has a real chance to stick in the majors for a while. Coming into this season, Delmonico had two knocks against him, the first was that he didn't have a clear position yet, and the second was a knee injury he had last season. At this point, scouts believe third base is his best position, and that works well for the Brewers. When he was drafted, scouts believed he would hit for average, with at least acceptable power for a corner infield spot. So far, the batting average hasn't been there, but he only had 338 pro ABs before this season. One thing that's too bad is, the Tigers were the team most interested in K-Rod, but their bullpen has been better of late, which caused them to back off. If the Brewers were going to get a third baseman who's closer to the big leagues than Delmonico, that was their best shot. I'll take it, this kid has clear potential, and we got him for a guy no one wanted so sign a few months ago.
  14. He did it, they caught him, and now he's suspended, which is the way it should be in the end. He's not my brother, he plays for the team I root for, I won't waste any energy hating him, because it's not worth my time.
  15. Good, just get it over with already, and they obviously had him, so I'm glad he's admitting guilt, even if it took all of this to get here...at least we're here. What a mess, what a shame, and what a disgrace...I'm glad, at least, that this chapter will end. Braun's going to take a (deserved) beating for this, but if he stays clean, he can win people back, once he's served a suspension.
  16. It's Olt, who is the centerpiece, Edwards, the projectable pitcher who's having a big year in A-ball, and Grimm, a low-cost, back of the rotation starter, plus a player to be named.
  17. Justin Grimm is in the trade.
  18. I don't know if the Brewers match up with Pittsburgh at all, but several teams are scouting this pitcher, making me think he's been made available. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=kingha001nic
  19. As Clay Buchholz heads to see Dr James Andrews, the Red Sox are taking another look at Garza.
  20. Garza is also only signed for five fortnights, and he's missed significant time in each of the last two seasons while Lohse has pitched well. I know which guy I'd want, and I can't imagine I'm the only one, I don't think the Brewers have made Lohse available.
  21. Detroit's in kind of a weird position here, they've gone for it, they have a very expensive, veteran team backed by a thin farm system with one big piece at the top. They're trying to win a World Series - NOW - and their bullpen has kept them from even shedding Cleveland in the division race. Don't assume Castellanos cannot be had, you may be right, and I get it, but this isn't a team that is showing patience, nor a team that is interested in three years from now - this is a team that gave huge money to Prince, big money to Anibal Sanchez, and then grabbed Torii Hunter. If they think a move would put them over the top, they'll make that move. No one would trade Zach Wheeler's entire MLB career for two months of Carlos Beltran, right?
  22. The Marlins say Steve Cishek is not available, and the Twins say they won't deal Glen Perkins...good, the less on the market, the better.
  23. Per Haudricourt, Braves in Milwaukee this weekend to see Milwaukee relievers. Not surprising at all, but confirmed.
  24. Garza v Lohse, check this out... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=1061
  25. Since the only guys who are certain to be traded are healthy veterans, who are signed only through this year, I think the safest picks would be Gonzalez and K-Rod. Gonzalez to Atlanta seems like an easy, and logical match, but since multiple posters are already there, I'll send K-Rod to Detroit, July 25.
