  1. I've thought Blyleven was obvious for years, and I was surprised when Alomar didn't make it last year...good for them! My new choice for the most obvious guy who's still not in...Tim Raines.
  2. This seems like a terrible time to deal Sizemore. The Indians aren't going to get a big offer for him, because he's missed so much time - they'd be much better off letting him play, to re-establish his value. If I were the Indians, I wouldn't take a lowball offer for Sizemore, and if I was trying to get him, I wouldn't give up a big package at this point.
  3. There has been nothing new to report. Keep in mind, the two sides just started talking during the winter meetings...the team had been waiting for Rickie to choose a new agent, etc. This isn't something that's likely to happen overnight, Rickie is coming off a breakthrough season, but he also has three significant injuries in his past...which means, there will be some give and take in these discussions. I know the team wants to keep Rickie here, and I know Rickie's representatives have started the process - the Brewers do a great job of keeping these things out of the press...give it some time.
  4. Ashley is out of her coma! She is now in the "baby steps" phase of recovery, she lifted her left leg for the physical therapist, etc. At this point, it's about her brain matching thoughts to actions, and slowly progressing.
  5. We just bought a car, so I called my insurance agent to make sure they had it straight, etc. We have three teen drivers...they told us we cannot list more than one of them as a primary driver on the same vehicle. We have to list all three of them on separate vehicles. OK...we have an old car here that two of them share...they use it to get to work, etc. They don't drive any of the other vehicles, except maybe 2-3 times a year...that's what the old car is here for. Now, I'm told I HAVE TO list one of them on the car we just got...which is a lot more expensive, because it is newer, etc. What a load...
  6. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/harmon-killebrew-cancer-baseball-hall-of-fame-minnesota-twins-123010 Rats! Harmon is a very kind man. I used to work with a guy who told me how Harmon used to fill his car with neighborhood kids in Bloomington, when he played for the Twins, and just take them for a drive around the block, because they wanted to tell kids at school they knew him.
  7. Chris has seen this thread...it brought a big smile to his face.
  8. OK, I spoke with some folks who are very close to Chris Capuano tonight, they sent this message to Brewerfan, and assured me, if anyone has a message for Chris..post it here, and they will forward a link to him in a few days. This just in... "The fans in Milwaukee were really great to Chris. They stood by him during both surgeries and always had faith in him. Chris wanted to work something out to come back and compete for a job as a starting pitcher, but with the additions of Greinke and Marcum, they felt they were set with their top 4, and Chris Narveson." So there you have it...if you have something to say to "Cappy"...go for it. -Todd
  9. It's too bad, it would have been fun to have Cappy around as the Brewers make a run next year. This news was predictable though, Milwaukee's rotation spots are filled...I don't blame Chris for looking elsewhere. The team got Marcum, Greinke and Saito, but lost Capuano for depth...I'll count that as a win. I don't view Mark Rogers as more risky than Capuano if one the starters goes down. Good luck, Chris, and thank you.
  10. OK, there's a lot to consider here...for one thing, with so many players already gone...who would the Brewers give up to acquire a shortstop? I suspect his current team will try to extend him, rather than trade him...but if circumstances are right in July...Jose Reyes is a free agent at season's end.
  11. I haven't voted yet, because I haven't made my decision. My hesitation isn't so much to do with the Brewers, it is because I think there are three legitimate playoff contenders in the NL Central. No matter how you slice it, you can't win the Wild Card, if you finish third. I suppose today that would mean I don't think they are "favorites", but, they added Saito which I didn't expect...I'll wait a bit more to see what else happens.
  12. Thanks for the support Brewer fans, even though you're not Twins fans, everyone is a fan of children in need of prayers. Thank you for your support in this difficult time, we have a page on Facebook for our daughter, here is the link: Supporting Ashley McAdam Thanks again. -Marty
  13. This move makes me wonder...when the Brewers couldn't find a market for Fielder, they reversed gears and juiced up the pitching, with Prince still in the lineup. I wonder if Melvin had trouble finding a power bat for his bench, so he went the other way and tried to "shorten the game" by strengthening the back end of the bullpen. Don't have a guy who can hit a bomb in the ninth? OK, then have the lead in the first place...
  14. In Saito's MLB career, his ERA is 2.19, his WHIP is 1.02, and his Ks per nine is 11, with nearly 4 Ks per BB. OK, he won't put up those numbers next year, but you get the point, this guy can pitch. I would factor in one DL stint along the way, but this is a move I really like.
  15. Wow, I don't believe this. I told you about Chad Cordero's baby daughter passing from SIDS, and tonight I was informed of another tragedy in the baseball community. Perhaps you remember Marty Cordova, who played for the Twins. His teen daughter was seriously injured in a car accident the other day...she is in a coma. Details We did it for the Corderos, so please...post here with any message to the Cordova family...I will forward it to Marty. Thank you. -Todd
  16. There isn't one of you who could pin Brian.
  17. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. Although I have never played for the Brewers, reading everyone's messages means a lot to us. People like all of you is what allows us to go on. It's been a tough couple of weeks. Losing an 11 week old is the worst thing that can ever happen. We never thought we would have to go through this but thankfully our family and friends have been here to help us out. SIDS is a nightmare that you wish no parent would have to experience. We are blessed to have a 19 month daughter that has allowed us to stay strong no matter how difficult of time this is. Tehya may have only been with us for a short time, but she will never be forgotten. Thanks again everyone. Chad, Jamie, Riley and Tehya Cordero
  18. My position on this is...the sentence is deserved. The thing is, hating this man is understandable, and probably unavoidable for the people closest to the situation...but the hatred won't help them. There is no good side...three innocent people are dead, another had a major injury, scores of others are hurt by it...and the guilty guy is in jail. Simply tragic.
  19. Hating this man is understandable, but it won't change what has already happened. There is no good side to this story. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=5946234
  20. The Milwaukee Brewers' starting rotation is not bugging me. We have Zack Greinke...and you don't.
  21. 88 wins for the Brewers is a popular pick so far...would anyone like to guess on the Cardinals and the Reds?
  22. OK, who among us is the most brilliant? Who can tell me how many wins the 2011 Brewers will have? For me, I see it like this... The starting rotation is suddenly the strength of this team. Greinke projects as an All-Star, Marcum and Gallardo are both strong, and Wolf is league average...only Narveson projects as a negative...and even he isn't a total blowout. I think the Brewers' bullpen is league average, almost exactly. The offense is the tough part for me. Weeks just had a big year, but he's been hurt three times...which guy will he be? Hart has been all over the place as a major leaguer, which guy will he be? Lucroy has very little MLB experience, will he improve from last season? I think he will in the long run, but how much of that will come this season? Prince has been a bit up and down...he could be a plus, or he could be a force...which guy will he be? Gomez and Betancourt should be projected as offensive liabilities...but to what extent? In the end, assuming no significant injuries, and no career years...I think this is an 85-win team. That is to say, if they had a completely vanilla season, this team finishes above .500. If the studs on this team match their established career bests, I think this could be a 95-win team. This is the 2009 Greinke, with the best seasons on record from Braun, Fielder, Gallardo, Marcum, McGehee and Weeks. I doubt either of those scenarios will happen. I say Greinke pitches at an All-Star level, Gallardo and Marcum are both clearly above league average, and Wolf is right at league average...the bullpen does its job...it doesn't put the team over the top, but it doesn't hurt them either. The offense, I'll say Braun plays at an All-Star level, and so does Prince. I'll bet on Weeks staying healthy, and being a plus, but not to the level of Braun and Fielder. I'll say Hart and McGehee are solid, but no more than that...for Betancourt, Gomez, and Lucroy...I'll politely hope for improvement. In the end...I think this team wins 88 games.
