  1. No grassy knoll or Greinke scoop here...but in this case, I have a rock-solid source. Nobody is going to give me details at this point, like how much money they're after, etc...that just wouldn't happen, nor should it. The Brewers have stated several times that they'd like to keep Rickie in Milwaukee, and they've also publicly acknowledged Rickie's interest in exploring a deal. I'm not telling anyone that a deal will get done, because I don't know that for certain, but I am telling everyone that the two sides are working on this...this is not like Prince's situation where one side walked away.
  2. I have no idea if a deal will get done, or when, or for how much. I do know the two sides are talking...for certain. I know Doug Melvin will not discuss this stuff while he's negotiating, don't read too much into his answers when he's asked about what's currently in progress...sort of like how no one saw the Marcum trade coming...the Brewers do a great job of keeping things quiet. Is it possible the thing falls apart? Yes, if the two sides can't reach an agreement. Are the two sides actively working on this? Yes, absolutely. I don't see this as something that happens in two days...Rickie has a great skill set and is coming off a big year, but he has the injuries in his past...he's tough to project. It'll probably take some negotiating. There's plenty of time for this to get done...it's December.
  3. "Trust Me." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. The two sides are still talking, I assure you of that. Nobody is going to give up details, because it is an active negotiation, in fact, Doug Melvin dodged the question today, but they are definitely in contact.
  5. OK, in the Greinke trade thread, there's plenty of "Betancourt Bashing" going on...so I'm giving the Brewers' new shortstop his own thread. Why do you, or do you not, want Betancourt to start at shortstop for the 2011 Brewers? Please keep in mind, there is already a thread for possible replacements in the Transactions/Rumors Forum...this thread is not the place to say, "Go Get Cabrera", this is the place to discuss the merits of Betancourt.
  6. Yes, but if we take her to Pizza Hut...she'll leave.
  7. Adam Everett has already signed with Cleveland.
  8. I'm thinking of Lucroy...what a position to be in. His MLB career is just taking off, and he'll be catching Greinke, Gallardo, Marcum, and Wolf, and hitting after Weeks, Hart, Braun, Fielder..."Everybody say 'Oh Yeah...'"
  9. First off, bummer, I've got some friends in the Royals organization, but I just got home. I may have been able to get some info on this, but not at this hour. If this is true, obviously I'm glad to get Greinke, but make no mistake, that is a TON of young talent going to KC.
  10. Don't you love it when a store advertises an item on sale...then has none within 30 minutes of opening their doors that morning?
  11. Chad and Jamie Cordero's baby girl, Tehya, recently died of SIDS. Yes, this is the Chad Cordero who was the closer for Washington, and most recently pitched for Seattle. OK, so Chad has never pitched for the Brewers...who cares? He's a husband and a father, and this is real tragedy...if you're so inclined, post a message to the Corderos in this thread...I'll be emailing Chad a link.
  12. 2 years, 12 million.
  13. Two things on Feller... 1. Probably Pete Rose's harshest critic among Hall of Famers - Bob seemed to be genuinely disgusted by Pete's actions. 2. Remember when they used to play "Old Timers Games?" One time, Mike Hegan hit a one-hop single through Feller's legs, which Feller never saw, he was standing there waiting for the catcher to throw the ball back to him. That incident led to the end of those games.
  14. Magglio Ordonez stays with the Tigers...one year, ten million.
  15. The A's will get Willingham for "two young players."
  16. I don't know of anything to "worry about" on this front. The two sides just started this process at the winter meetings - now they have to figure out where to value Rickie. It's not an easy thing to project Weeks' future production based on his past performance...he has great skills, and is coming off a big year, but he also has three significant injuries in his past.
  17. At age 43, Stairs has signed a minor league deal with Washington. Go Man, there's still 2-3 teams you haven't played for.
  18. TooLive...for me, this isn't specifically about the Yankees. I'm glad to see this precedent set, this elite pitcher, who had control of this winter's market, is leaving 50 million dollars on the table to merely be insanely rich, and....happy, in a place he already knows he likes. I don't know if the Brewers will ever be in a Sabathia-type situation again, but if they are, maybe this opens the door to keeping a guy who was all but gone. Prince Fielder...if you're out to get the biggest deal possible, no one can fault you for that...but guess what...you're in a unique profession...you don't HAVE TO.
  19. I think it's great that someone went where he actually wanted to be, rather than taking the biggest deal on the table. This just in....100 million dollars is an insane amount of money...it's actually ok to make a decision like this!
  20. I suspect a guy like Blanton, or Kevin Slowey, will be the type of pitcher the Brewers add at this point. Since this player would be slotted as their number 4 starter, that's ok with me. I'd rather make a move like that than count on a guy like Harden or Webb to stay in one piece. If the Brewers can get a guy like Blanton without overpaying I'd like to see it.
  21. Hardy and Brendan Harris to Baltimore for pitchers Brett Jacobson and Jim Hoey.
  22. I have to round up the names, but it's for pitching, pending physicals.
  23. Boston has done their work, now we'll see if the Yankees push harder to bring Lee in.
  24. MJL, I don't know that anyone believes Doug Melvin hasn't made some lousy decisions in his time with the Brewers. Personally, I realize that he's made some great moves, and some rotten ones, I just believe when it comes to committing tens of millions of Mr Attanasio's dollars, Mr Melvin most likely consults with his employer. I could be completely wrong, but I believe Mr Attanasio has instructed his staff to "win now." I think it's "Get Two Starting Pitchers or Bust", and the attempts to trade for another one got nowhere. Pavano has red flags all over him, but if you go the free agent route, he's the sort the Brewers can afford, and believe it or not, he's a safer health risk right now than a lot of the other pitchers who are available. Exhibit 3,406,908....small market teams pay a huge price when they fail to develop pitching.
